      Rodita Jauslin A have a couple variegated in countainers and only bloomed the first year after that they got sick. Systemic Imidacloprid does not work. They’ve been sick for 2 years. Do you have any problems with them, if so, how do you remedy? I wonder if being in containers is the problem.

      I have four hardy hibiscus in my yard and love them as well. I have Peppermint Schnapps, two Luna reds, and one called Plum Crazy that looks a bit like the one in the video. They are wonderful plants with such great appeal and they rise and bloom in the dog days of Summer which is nice. Mine did not do well in partial shade, but once I moved them into full full sun they took off. I've had my red one and Peppermint Schnapps for about 8 years. I added Plum Crazy last year.

    I JUST SAW THIS PROVEN WINNERS PLANT AT MY GARDEN CENTER YESTERDAY!!!! I wasn't sure about if it would be something I would want in my garden, because the old-style Hibiscus came to mind. Well, now I know I WANT IT!!! In fact, I have a spot that would look great with 3 growing together. Thanks Laura.

    I have two of those Hibiscus in the lighter pink color. They are wonderful to have in the garden. Very easy to care for. I also thought they had died the first year cause they took forever to come out in the spring. They are the last to come out. I also leave the dead branches on for additional support for the flowers.

    My mom had three Hibiscus trees outside of our second patio when I was a child. She was into anything tropical looking. She had a hedge of bird of paradise along one walk way. And then of course under the covered patio was all her Fushia's uprights and hanging. Lol she cracked me up, while I'm totally into free flowing wild flowers sweet peas and roses mix with herbs planted around she was totally "set" in her gardening

    Beautiful. I have no luck with hardy hibiscus and I’m a zone 8. It does well the year I plant it and then never comes back. Have decided it doesn’t like my limestone soil. I also find hibiscus to be water hogs so since we don’t get much rain in summer and then get put in watering restrictions it’s best I stay away from plants that need so much water to be happy. I will enjoy watching your updates and admiring yours.

    These are so beautiful! Just bought the version you put in the back today, can't wait to put in our garden! Thanks for the video! I hope we didn't prematurely dig up our Rose of Sharon tree! We just dug it out today and replaced it with another since it is mid July in Wisconsin. It was in our front garden and beautiful the last 3 years! It is a traditional Rose of Sharon double purple in tree form! It had no leaves and when I bent a few of the branches they snapped, no green either so I assumed dead! Thanks again for all your great info and inspiration!

    Although Laura, you did not mention one major aspect of hibiscus plants: the blooms only last ONE DAY. 🙁 I have a couple similarly developed hibiscus (that grow as a bush vs leggy plant with huge blooms & are hardy in zones 4-9) but I was so dismayed when I received them in the mail & read on their literature that the blooms only last 1 day ... (Sorta wished I'd known that before ordering them.)
    That aside, I adore your videos & especially your enthusiasm for all things that grow (including your precious kitties & darling son Benjamin); you & Aaron do an awesome job presenting a broad spectrum of plants & landscape products in a real environment. I enjoy learning about different plants & how best to care for them, partnered with the reality of the risks of gardening; since following your vlog, I have significantly expanded my plant selections. ☺️ Thank you for being a huge blessing when I pick up my tablet in the morning, watching your videos is a great way to wrap up my daily devotional time with God.

    • @testicular4820
      @testicular4820 6 років тому +1

      Karie Everett I have 2 Lord Baltimore Hibiscus and I feed them slow release fertilizer when the shoots first start appearing in the garden bed. If I am busy and forget to feed them with a slow release then I will water them every other week with water soluble Miracle Grow while they are blooming and I usually add a bit of compost to the soil surrounding my plants. I'm not an expert but everything I read online suggest feeding your Hibiscus and mine have always done better the years I remember to fertilize. Hope this helps, good luck!

    I lost two of the most beautiful hibiscus plants last year due to too much rain in may last year. Be careful not to water them too much. they are prone to root rotting.
