When I first played Majora's Mask, I didn't like it. It takes a while to cook. But once you get a few key masks and equipment pieces, and really start to understand how the world in it works, I grew to love it.
As someone who ranks Majora’s Mask among his top games of all time, Simmons’ rant was entertaining and factually true. However, knocking it for a lack of dungeons at the same time (as if they are separate issues) doesn’t sit right with me. As someone in chat said, the overworld is part of the dungeons. The reason there are only four is because the process of getting into them is much more involved (whether you agree with that design choice or not)
The extraneous steps to get to the dungeons is kinda the point though. It's about the people, side quests, and world building. He's right about the Zora egg thing though. Most tedious part of the game even with plenty of bottles 😂
It's great seeing you guys do top 10 games of older consoles. Along with the debates and conclusions, all in all. I can't wait for the top 10 Sega Mega Drive/Genesis games. That'll be fun.
I don’t think I’ve ever felt More connected to npcs than I have in Majora’s Mask. By the end of the game, I feel like I knew eveyone’s daily routines and life struggles.
That was the main point of that game, you felt a part of a living world. In Ocarina the NPCs are braindead and you see no real impact on the changing world, it's super basic
The fact that Simmons did not once mess up explaining the process to getting into the water temple on that rant about Majoras Mask was pretty impressive
He’s just sega arcade bias, I don’t take him seriously most of the time because I know he doesn’t know much about video games outside of what he played. N64 was the arcade machine for its time that’s why midway was comfortable basically porting all their arcade games to the console
I didn't know anyone getting into fist fights over an N64 though. Even during Black Friday. Dreamcast was so hard to find, people went to brawl to get one.
I can't believe they compared Super Smash Bros to the first Street Fighter. SSB plays great. Of course, Melee improved in every way, but the base game remains intact. The tournaments we played with friends or family were just as intense as those later played in Melee and it was a must-play game in N64 sessions.
@@ThatSamoanGuy That's pretty much the only thing they have in common. You could say the first game in any series is like SF1, but people still play Smash64 and prefer it over the newer games. No one plays SF1 and it's single player arcade anyway
I'm just happy that a sports game finally made it to the top 10. Max normally targets them immediately once they begin eliminations and they never get a chance.
01. The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time - 2075 (102) 02. Super Mario 64 - 1683 (37) 03. GoldenEye 007 - 1356 (24) 04. Super Smash Bros. - 1071 (21) 05. The Legend Of Zelda: Majora’s Mask - 989 (18) 06. Mario Kart 64 - 896 (9) 07. Banjo-Kazooie - 799 (9) 08. Perfect Dark - 749 (20) 09. Star Fox 64 - 705 (3) 10. Paper Mario - 626 (14)
would have exchanged perfect dark or zelda Majora’s Mask for one of the titles WWF No Mercy, my pick Pokémon Stadium, F-Zero X, Mario Party 2, diddy kong racing is better but also more complicated and no party versus mode. it's more of a single player game and mk64 is more multiplayer.
Yeah it may not have aged well but it’s one of the most important first person shooters that proved the fps genre could work on consoles and implemented features and mechanics future fps games would use in future
DKR is amazing, not knowing once you beat the game that you have to beat it all over again in reverse was godlike for the time. Longevity in a game, especially in a racing game story mode was unheard of.
Yes I have to agree on that. Some of the races were freaken difficult for me as a kid, especially since we had to get first place to progress but man that game has a lot of replayability
46:20 At last the time has come for Max and his friends to judge the best Nintendo 64 games of all time. Counting down 30 games from the N64 to try and find out which one will come out on top. Here is the list that they will start with: Zelda: MM, F-Zero, RR64, KI Gold, perfect dark, WWF no mercy, star fox 64, Mario 64, banjo Kazooie, blast corps, Mario party 2, MK trilogy, harvest moon, NBA hang time, 007 goldeneye, smash brothers, wave race, Zelda ocarina of time, Diddy Kong racing, beetle adventure racing, paper Mario, Mario golf, vigilante 8, 1080, Turok 2, and Sin & Punishment. 1:06:59 Max: “Yeah I think majora‘s mask is one of the greatest N64 games of all time scratch it out.” 🤣 1:07:04 Simmons Rage Out & explanation about Zelda: MM Which of these 30 games will make it to the top 10 in which one will be crowned the king of the N64 universe? 1:39:24 And here we are the 10 surviving games of the N64 have beaten out 20 high powerful competitors yet now the time has come to find out which becomes the number one N64 of all time who will take home the gold? 1:42:05 1) Zelda ocarina of time 2) Mario 64 3) banjo Kazooie 4) Star fox 64 5) perfect dark 6) 007: goldeneye 7) Mario kart 8) smash brothers 9) WWF: no mercy 10) Mario party 2
Although my top ten would be completely different (Kirby, Pokemon stadium 2, Conker all make my top ten) I can’t argue that for the most part they got the right 10 games to be in the top ten. Probably the best list they made honestly
Majora is easily top 10. Simmons rant is just an incredibly bad faith way of looking at the game. Overly critical. The race against the clock to nail certain challenges offered a unique charm. The side quests to get the different masks were more involved, interesting and rewarding than OoT. The NPCs in them having a story and routine to them made them feel more alive than OoT NPCs. The mask transformations give it even more of an edge over OoT with great music to match. To put OoT at #1 and Majora no where in sight is wild to me. Also no Paper Mario in the list? I suppose none of you played it?
Majora’s mask is such a unique masterpiece of a game, best atmosphere and plot in any Zelda game, great npc characters and memorable side quests, best world building , unique equipment and tackles dark, philosophical and psychological concepts like existential dread, death, grief, loneliness and human connection. How cool is it that the game has no Ganon and no Zelda? All the things Max loves about Shadow of the Colossus and Shenmue are present here about how games can be more than just point A to B experiences. It’s an incredibly unique, experimental and meaningful experience that I would say sits at the top of the system. Not having it in the top 10 is one of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever seen. There’s not a single game in the franchise or on the system that even touches how great that game is.
Majora's Mask is top 5 at minimum! I like that now days most people agree that its at least a good game and a lot even have it as their favorite Zelda game. MM is my favorite game EVER! I hope Max eventually plays it fully like he did with Mario 64.
He definitely planned to get this rant out in this stream because he was the one that put MM on the list there last second just to shoot it down later. He also did the EXACT same rant on his "definitive zelda tier list" video on this channel, so he definitely has experience from before lol
Nintendo consoles always make for the best top 10 debates. There's just too many good games and the nostalgia is always through the roof. Kirby 64, Conker, Jet Force Gemini, Paper Mario, Pokemon Stadium 1 and 2, Mischief Makers, Rayman 2, DK 64. So many games that could easily make a top 10. That Wii debate is gonna go crazy
Taking my personal bias aside because I would have games like pokemon stadium 2, Conker and Kirby in my top ten, this is probably the best list they did
I respect the opinions Of the gang and Majora asks more than maybe any other Zelda game in that it requires you to get on its level or you’re gonna have a hard time. (And that’s absolutely a weakness) I’m not a MM expert or anything, but Simmons rant says “if I want to speed run the dungeons look at all the things I have to do”, and that thinking goes directly contrary to the game’s design philosophy. It’s not surprising he didn’t have a good time. (Also, it seems like there’s a lot in that quest chain that carries over between cycles?)
I gotta agree with Kenny. Mario Kart 64 is my preferred racer on N64 but Diddy Kong Racing is still very good. The way I put it is MK64 is the more fun game overall but Diddy Kong is the more Complete Package.
I don’t think it’s a competition, there’s a reason why Mario kart 64 is still played competitive and diddy Kong racing is not. Personally I think CTR did diddy Kong racing better than diddy Kong racing
My list 1. Banjo Tooie 2. Perfect Dark 3. Ocarina of Time 4. Star Fox 64 5. Mario 64 Majora, Smash, Kazooie, Resident Evil 2 and 007 are the other 5 in no particular order.
Normally I watch these tops just because its fun to see those guys having fun. Most of the time I don't agree with their list, especially because they constantly change the rules about what they are truly choosing (enjoyment vs legacy vs sales vs cult following vs "this has a better port elsewhere" or things like that) but its fine. Its just a good time, they want to have fun, they can choose Superman 64 as number one and I'll be okay with that. The Majora's Mask rant is something I don't agree but it was hilarious. ...but, man, its much, MUCH better to be humble and say "I haven't played that game more than 15 minutes so I don't have an incisive opinion" than say "Sin & Punishment is cool if its your first rail shooter". Like, no, fucking hell no. Sin & Punishment is an amazing Treasure arcadey N64 masterpiece and I say that as a Star Fox 64 fanboy that got the game almost day one. No one that played S&P in hard mode AND Turbo mode would say that.
My top 10 in no particular order is Perfect Dark, DK Racing, Jet force gemimi, Conker Bad Fur Day, KI gold, MK trilogy, Mario 64, DK 64, Goldeneye, Zelda OoT
It’s always wild that Max nominates a game to be in top 10 based on legacy instead of his own opinion(smash for this list for example) but shoots down games he actually enjoys like Blitz. Very contradictory
He knows that despite he may like a game more than what he chooses over it is because he understands that particular game had more impact overall on the console, players or industry. There is a criteria to picking something over what was personally enjoyed.
Simmons' rant about Majora's Mask was the stupidest shit I've seen in a while. ANY game can be reduced to a series of seemingly meaningless tasks before progression. He is also a huuuuge hypocrite.... He praised the RE2 port because of the low budget and 1 year development cycle but guess what? Majora's Mask was a BRAND NEW game made by a ridiculously small team as well, that took less than 2 years to make and had to be a good enough follow up to the BIGGEST game of ALL TIME! It was not just a port, it was a whole ass new game. They had to reuse the assets from OoT and they managed to make it distinctive enough that a whole lot of people love the atmosphere and the uniqueness of it, even if it was as flawed as he implied. Dang man, did Majora's mask hurt you in some way? To not have that in the top 10 of the 64 is asinine.
Oh god, you guys are going to have to do genres next for a top ten and ad suikoden 2 best RPG ever made. You have to let's play it, Max. It will make you cry, not that you're a father. That's all I'll say on the matter .
I think the actual metacritic top ten is very accurate of the actual best games. Theres not a ton of games on the console and the good games are clearly defined theres the 10-15 A rank games, and then theres also a decent amount of B rank games that are still really fun.
The arguement against Smash makes zero sense and just the overall modern comparisons. "The sequel and the re-release 20 years later are so much better!" Well yeah.. no duh, but we are talking about N64.
Didnt watch stream or see the vid yet but for me, OoT is #1 easily. Mario 64, Banjo, Goldeneye, Smash, Mario Kart, Mario Party, Diddy Kong Racing, Starfox 64, Turok 3 multiplayer, Perfect Dark, Majoras Mask, Blast Corps, Pokemon Snap, Pokemon Stadium1+2, Donkey Kong 64, and one of my personal favs, SNOWBOARD KIDS!!!!! let me know any Im forgetting
Great list, but wish more people would mention the Bomber Man games. Most people seem to just mention Heroes if any gets mentioned at all, but all 3 of the Bomber Man games on N64 are super fun. If it I could only pick one, it would more likely be 64 or 64: The Second Attack over Heroes. But they are all worth it.
Jet Force Gemini I could see a case for. Paper Mario should be there for sure. DK64 and Banjo-Tooie are just bloated padded out worse experiences than Kazooie. But they do have multiplayer modes, which Kazooie does not.
Nah I am a lifelong DK fan. DK64 was some of the worst Rare on the console. That game was ponderous. Even Conker, at least, had much better pacing. JFG was clunky af and I think ya'll just forgot.
Where I lived everyone had a PS2 or an XBOX people with a GameCube were far and few between. I had one and one other guy I knew in middle school had one.
@@Magic7ball I just meant it was surprising to me since I and everyone I knew had one. But I guess we were the exception. Like I knew the Saturn and Dreamcast were kinda fumbled in the US but had those, just was shocking that Nintendo did that poorly.
It’s very odd cos at my university in the UK so many on my course had a GameCube then years later I hear Americans call it an absolute failure. Like it didn’t do as well as PS2 by a long shot but I get the impression it was way more lopsided in the USA (same situation Xbox 360 vs PS3 where Americans were always confused when they saw global sales numbers for the two cos the US games media focused so heavily on the America-box being successful at home and murdering Sony lol)
@@sonicsean34 There were a lot of reasons for that being the case here in America. The 360 was significantly cheaper and came with Halo 3. The launch of the PS3 was an absolute disaster here, with people being trampled to death at supermarkets trying to get in line, and PS3's being unavailable for a while after launch. Then Call of Duty 4 came out, and online gaming became the standard, and Xbox Live has always been more secure than PSN, even if PSN was free. Then 3rd party support for Xbox as well as first party, or lack there of, for the PS3 in the first couple of years meant the Xbox got off to a huge lead, and the PS3 didn't get due credit till years later
Zoots Water temple was such an ass dungeon, id save before entering, beat it and reload it over and over until i had that burned into my retina because i use to get lost so goddamn often that i use to time trial myself. No other game had ever made me do that before.
A blemish on an otherwise fantastic game. Playing Master Quest and on the 3DS version makes it a lot less painful. No water temple has ever been good though. Ocarina of Time just happens to have the worst one. I might prefer most 2D Zeldas, but still haven’t enjoyed any other 3D Zelda as much as Ocarina.
i think DKR is a good game, but i genuinely thought simmons was trolling at first when he said it felt better to play than Mario Kart. i own both, besides playing through adventure mode, it’s no reason to pick DKR over Mario kart. MK64 just plays completely better.
100 percent agreed, adventure mode is all diddy kong racing had, the battle mode was boring, as Kenny said the game is slow for a racing game, the maps are not memorable at least to me they are not and even the items kind of suck
That's not true... The rant illustrates a lot of back tracking and having to do a lot without a sense of progression. Of course there are many titles that just have u progressing with little to nothing in-between... Point being, it's not a problem that all or even most games experience to the level Simmons was describing...
@@dr.evil2some847 You do have a sense of progression, what the hell are you talking about? You get a horse that you can use anywhere in the overworld, you get bottles that store healing items among other useful things That path is just part of the dungeon, but focused on world-building instead You are progressing through the game because those items and quests are part of the design of that dungeon. You may love that or hate it but it is progression Simmons just comes off as the steryotipical cynical gamer that hates on things and thinks of himself as always right
My Personal list would be totally different. I never beat a Zelda in Breath of the wild and haven’t played OOT. I get that most people that’s the top though. I also think Mario 64 Walked so banjo could run. Personally I never got into Diddy Kong. I’m also not an FPS or party guy, so no Golden Eye or Mario Party. 1. Banjo Kazooie 2.Banjo Tooie 3. Mario 64 4.Spider-man ( I know PS1 and future games are better, but it to me was the first super hero game where you felt like the hero and I like crazy everything codes.) 5.Kirby 64 6.Smash 7. Mario Cart 8. Pokémon Snap 9. KI Gold 10. Clay Fighter 63 1/3 10 I decided to pick a guilty pleasure it was either this or Superman. Superman I mainly have fun with the codes jumping around levels and goofing around. Clay fighter you can actually play the base game. If I didn’t have 2 banjo games I’d probably add clay Paper Mario or Stadium.
There’s more than 6 good games Goldeneye Perfect dark Killer instinct gold Mario kart 64 Mario party 2 Super Mario 64 Majoras mask Ocarina of time 1080 Kirby 64 Paper Mario Star fox 64 Sin & punishment Super smash pros Pokemon stadium Star Wars rogue squadron I almost forgot WCW/NWO revenge WWF no mercy
I'd swap Banjo with Conkers, not only was that game a super RARE anomaly to even happen on a kids console, but it was amazing and the multiplayer modes were tons of fun. Also I know it was a bit janky however Duke Nukem 3D for the 64 was soo much fun. It was great playing co-op and had a silly 4 player vs mode. If you didn't have 4 people you could add bots which on hard had super human speed it was almost scary to fight them.
Conker is funny, but Banjo controls so much better. Better structured environments as well. Conker is still list worthy though for its creativity, robust multiplayer and pushing hardware limits.
As a fellow Donkey Kong longtime fanboy... 100% agree with Simmons that DK64 is some of the worst Rareware on the console. It's not that it's eggregiously bad or anything, just near impossible to defend when Rare had *better shit* on the same console.
maybe just once, if even that lol. A lot of his rant is simply incorrect. A lot of the questing actually does carry over between time cycles for the "critical path to the 3rd dungeon". The only thing that can be tedious is if you don't have a lot of bottles for egg collecting but even that part of his rant is incorrect. You DO NOT have to wait a FULL day for eggs to hatch, they hatch immediately after dropping all of them and then you get the song to enter the 3rd dungeon. I understand to someone who didn't play or barely played MM, the time mechanic may seem like something urgent that you worry about but after the first couple cycles, it's actually not that much of a worry.
1. Simmons, it's a Zelda game. They're all convoluted and weird with padded bullshit. 2. All you did was prove the game was memorable AF. 3. Also, Perfect Dark might've been better than Golden Eye, but more people played Golden Eye. You can't keep changing the rules on these lists.
His rant was pretty embarrassing honestly and I’m not even that much of a majoras mask fan, he literally described how like 80 percent of adventure style games work
I said it in the chat - I love the narrative of Majora's Mask, and it's such a unique game. I respect the fact that they were able to get a game out in less than two years. But Simmons is not wrong! At all! I never realized how goddamn tedious the game is, because I consciously ignored it to get to what I care about - the EXPERIENCE. BUT YES, as a VIDEO GAME...I admit, big problems exist.
To say Hang time was the peak of basketball when Street exists is wild... Just bcuz Hang time came out and it was better than Jam doesn't mean it's the best, especially in a dimension where Street exists... Of course nothing is as wild as Simmons defending Perfect Dark over GoldenEye...
You say it like Goldeneye was far superior. As of now, I mostly prefer Goldeneye, but I think they are close enough you could place them both for the same spot like Simmons suggested. I think most people that are aware of Perfect Dark regard it as good as Goldeneye, if not better. It’s just that Goldeneye came first and when the system was way more fresh. Plus it was revolutionary and a famous licensed IP that happened to turn out great. So it’s only natural that it would sell more. Goldeneye’s impact is unmatched, but Perfect Dark is generally regarded as a product improvement.
@SolidBren a game could have all of the features in the world or it could b a simple game like Tetris... LITERALLY the only thing that matters is if the thing is fun to play. Nothing else is a requirement. Not graphics, not mechanics, nothing is required but fun factor. Having said that, why should we ever judge a game by wat it has in it, as the game could still be trash regardless of wat might be under the hood. U can speak to improvements in gaming, but they don't inherently equal better game. Fun to talk about also, that's just having fun. Of course, this is a personal list for them, which is a detail that is pretty hard to argue with. But objectively, everybody knows that Goldeneye would win in a major landslide if put to poll, so kind of silly to think u have a legitimate top 10 with perfect dark over top of Goldeneye, even if ur saying it's a personal list, given the vast separation in popularity... I persothink Ring of Red is a top ten PS2 game, but 99% of people have never even heard of it. I would look silly and my list would be laughed about despite the game being crazy fun, which is all the matters.
@@dr.evil2some847 One of the things I’ve noticed is that Max tends to focus on choosing entries for these lists to appeal to the most amount of gamers, but then orders them based on his personal ranking along with taking the opinions of his IRL friends into account to some degree. Max does personal favorite lists occasionally on his own separately from these kind. I always find personal favorite lists way more interesting. Because when you just make what the mass wants, you more or less just end up with the games that were the best selling. Which is fine, but slightly dull and very predictable. Because it’s mostly the stuff everyone already knows about. I might have to check out Ring of Red sometime, that looks like a really cool early PS2 game. I get a little tired of seeing the same games on top lists. Not saying they’re wrong, but I like surprises of lesser known games that probably deserve more attention and are just as fun as the popular ones, if not more.
@SolidBren I just recognize these lists as illegitimate as best games lists, over ruled by there own arguments that constantly contradict each other as well as leaving out key games that were system hallmarks just bcuz they have a better version on a different system. A fact like that has zero bearing on the games impact at the time which is another thing they will reference, meanwhile elevating niche games... but these are very fun and interesting to watch. Some of the defenses and takedown are masterpiece theater. I just see massive flaws in the criteria and almost every aspect of this process... zero dark and Goldeneye are great examples. I say if RE4 isn't hovering around the top of N64, PS2, Gamecast, Xbox 1080, etc, then something is wrong... ;) i think it's fine to have these titles be represented fairly on all systems and all those other fun games that don't make the top ten still get there shine for as much as they want to put on them for whatever personal reason or whatever. At the end of the day it's their lost tho, that's the thing... I'm just saying... lo
@ Grant Kirkhope made the music for both games. He and the rest of the team used everything they learned on GE and built on top of it to make PD. The multiplayer is miles ahead better. The story is so much better. Brother just tell us you never Played PD. I had both and the choice is clear. Grant’s Pause screen soundtrack for GE is legendary, but that’s it.
@@XxSkineyxXIve played PD including the Xbox version. Goldeneye was a system seller, as well as Mario and Zelda and Mario Kart. Nobody in the year 2000 was like, “I need an N64 for Perfect Dark”. By then, people were ready for the Dreamcast and PS2.
22:41 a sequel is better than the og? That's his argument? Which goes against their arguments on how alot of the sequels like spiderman 2/GoW are less impactful because they werent the first. LOL the hypocrisy is wild
I mean, it's not really a sequel The problem with these lists that they make is that they are not clear in purpose. You can make a list about your Personal favorites on the system or the most impactful, but you can't have both without mudding the message. What is impact first of all, how to they define it? How will they coalesce that with their personal feelings? When should one overtake the other? With the bloat its easy to say you like a certain game but can't justify it as top 10, but when the best games arrive, how do you proceed? I mean, these videos are entertaining for sure, but they are shit lists that nobody should care about besides Max and his friends
You have to see them as part of the main quest. The game's plot is all about Link coming upon this weird town full of weird people and even weirder events. I mean the fucking moon is coming towards them and nobody fucking leaves? The "side quests" are part of Link's journey of getting to know and care about these people and everything all around him. So yes he will defend this lady's cows from freaking aliens because he's a hero damn it! It's so much better than the braindead OoT NPCs that feel lifeless in a lifeless world. Majora's is just better at immersion, plot AND theme.
@ Are you telling me that the games you just listed are better? It's a joke I hope. Sin and punishment and ogre battle 64 are at least top 10 or even top 5. And mario 64 must be first, Zelda has nothing to do there.
We all have our own opinions on what our top 10 would look like, but I thought the list they came up with was good. If someone gave you those 10 games you'd have a great sampling of some of the best N64 had to offer. Awesome stream!
Sorry but Majora top 5 for sure. Oot can stay off the list imo. Majora's laundry list of chores isnt nearly as bad as oot or especially TWILIGHT FUCKING PRINCESS
The disrespect for pokemon is crazy lol just cuz I have pokemon stadium on my list u think N64 is my fist gaming system ?! Lol PS was hugely loved not only for the game play but the mini games lol there is a reason why Pikachu is in smash lol
Simmons just describing the events of MM as if it's a bad thing. Yes, you have to complete a lot of tasks to beat a zelda game, including some mundane ones. That IS zelda. If you don't like that, fine, but it's at the core of virtually every zelda ever.
Comes down to being able to do things at your own pace, taking everything one step at a time and being able to save anywhere at anytime in the majority of Zelda games and JRPGs. Majora forces you to adapt to its time management and makes you have to plan around everything you do. To more casual fans the chore gets in the way of the enjoyment.
@@SolidBren majority of JRPGs? Have you played any from that time? FF7 arguably the greatest RPG of all time had save points, so did FF8 and 9. JRPGs were using save points up to Kingdom Hearts 2 and further. WTH are you going on about? Also in Ocarina you could "save" anywhere but more often than not that meant returning to Link's house or the temple of time which added a ton of backtracking.
@ Save points were still more convenient than having to play the Song of Time, especially if you were on the final day in Majora. You would lose all your bombs and arrows and rupees and whatever was in your bottles. Sure, you could put rupees in a bank, but it was just another step that you would have to go out of your way for. Being at the Temple of Time or Link's house was some extra back tracking, if you had to turn off the console, but it was still a bit less than Majora and you got to keep your money and ammo. Also in FF7 and Chrono Trigger as long as you were on the overworld, you could save there. And I think it would spawn you at the last area you had entered on the overworld. Correct me, if I am wrong. I believe many other Square games followed suit, but I'm also aware some of the games of the time and slightly before had less convenient saving requirements. Such as Earthbound and finding telephones, which were sometimes pretty far apart. And don't get me started on that game's inventory management. Still enjoyed it, for what it got right. Majora's Mask is a good game, but it's inconveniences are totally justified. Especially, if you preferred prior games or even later ones.
The reason there are only four is because the process of getting into them is much more involved (whether you agree with that design choice or not)
He wasn’t right tho lol you keep all your equipment you don’t have to go back in time for the pictograph or the bottles or epona for that matter
The extraneous steps to get to the dungeons is kinda the point though. It's about the people, side quests, and world building. He's right about the Zora egg thing though. Most tedious part of the game even with plenty of bottles 😂
"Overworld is also part of the dungeons"
Is also true in Skyward Sword, and it's not necessarily a quality.
@@matheuslara1670 in that game definitely not 😅 I think Majora’s Mask does it better though
A lot of what he said wasn't true and the way he explained it to make it more tedious than it really is. It's typical LoZ back and forth nonsense.

Dreamcast was so hard to find, people went to brawl to get one.
I can't believe they compared Super Smash Bros to the first Street Fighter. SSB plays great. Of course, Melee improved in every way, but the base game remains intact. The tournaments we played with friends or family were just as intense as those later played in Melee and it was a must-play game in N64 sessions.
...it IS like the original Street Fighter. It was the first of it's kind.
@@ThatSamoanGuy That's pretty much the only thing they have in common. You could say the first game in any series is like SF1, but people still play Smash64 and prefer it over the newer games. No one plays SF1 and it's single player arcade anyway
@@ThatSamoanGuy You can't make this comparison when one game is good and the other one is dogshit
Max REALLY needs to play more N64 games. Gotta be the most underrated and misunderstood console when it comes to library.
Unmatched library for arcade-like multiplayer games.
Simmons always seems like he drank before recording but just enough to not be incomprehensibly inebriated and I'm here for it
I knew this was a personal favorites list when majora didn't even reach top 10, but they snuck in killer instinct.
I'm just happy that a sports game finally made it to the top 10. Max normally targets them immediately once they begin eliminations and they never get a chance.
Kenny wearing his best Link costume this
The Link that works in the record store
01. The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time - 2075 (102)
02. Super Mario 64 - 1683 (37)
03. GoldenEye 007 - 1356 (24)
04. Super Smash Bros. - 1071 (21)
05. The Legend Of Zelda: Majora’s Mask - 989 (18)
06. Mario Kart 64 - 896 (9)

08. Perfect Dark - 749 (20)
09. Star Fox 64 - 705 (3)
What do the two numbers at the end mean ?
SIMMONS RANT ON MM WAS THE BEST RANT EVER.
Oh for real man😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
It might just be
He said so much so fast, and wasn't even winded.
goldeneye is what'll be remembered forever by everyone in middle school at the time everywhere
And the speedruns!
DKR speedruns are incredible.
46:20 At last the time has come for Max and his friends to judge the best Nintendo 64 games of all time. Counting down 30 games from the N64 to try and find out which one will come out on top.
Here is the list that they will start with:
Zelda: MM, F-Zero, RR64, KI Gold, perfect dark, WWF no mercy, star fox 64, Mario 64, banjo Kazooie, blast corps, Mario party 2, MK trilogy, harvest moon, NBA hang time, 007 goldeneye, smash brothers, wave race, Zelda ocarina of time, Diddy Kong racing, beetle adventure racing, paper Mario, Mario golf, vigilante 8, 1080, Turok 2, and Sin & Punishment.
1:06:59 Max: “Yeah I think majora‘s mask is one of the greatest N64 games of all time scratch it out.” 🤣
1:07:04 Simmons Rage Out & explanation about Zelda: MM
Which of these 30 games will make it to the top 10 in which one will be crowned the king of the N64 universe?
1:39:24
And here we are the 10 surviving games of the N64 have beaten out 20 high powerful competitors yet now the time has come to find out which becomes the number one N64 of all time who will take home the gold?
1:42:05
1) Zelda ocarina of time
2) Mario 64
3) banjo Kazooie
4) Star fox 64
5) perfect dark
6) 007: goldeneye
7) Mario kart
8) smash brothers
9) WWF: no mercy
10) Mario party 2
Simmons is the goat of the top 10 videos
I was waiting for this one let’s gooooooo🎉
I hope Max eventually plays it fully like he did with Mario 64.
no!
MM is amazing.
No shot lmao
simmons rant was legendary!!
legendary dogshit more likely
I will admit that he has an impressive ability to spew shit at a fast pace
1:07:06
You know that Simmons has been saving that rant for this top 10
yup, truly pathetic
He definitely planned to get this rant out in this stream because he was the one that put MM on the list there last second just to shoot it down later.
He also did the EXACT same rant on his "definitive zelda tier list" video on this channel, so he definitely has experience from before lol
I can't deny Simmons rant lmao
Ahh YES the moment weve been waiting for😂 also that MM Rant pure comedy😂😂😂😂😂
Nintendo consoles always make for the best top 10 debates. There's just too many good games and the nostalgia is always through the roof. Kirby 64, Conker, Jet Force Gemini, Paper Mario, Pokemon Stadium 1 and 2, Mischief Makers, Rayman 2, DK 64. So many games that could easily make a top 10. That Wii debate is gonna go crazy
Well considering n64 doesnt have more than like 30 games worth mentioning it does make this one a bit more clear
@@MakoTenseiicouldn’t have said it better
I’d love to agree but, I can’t. I care ablout so little of the n64 library. I don’t think most of it holds up very well
Taking my personal bias aside because I would have games like pokemon stadium 2, Conker and Kirby in my top ten, this is probably the best list they did
@@MakoTenseii It does, I can name at least 60
Pokémon Stadium was really fun, and I'm not even a Pokémon guy
2 would make my personal top ten but I’m not mad that it didn’t make it I think they did a good job of what actually made the top ten
Yeah, video games is life on this channel. My video game catalog is causal compared to these guys
I respect the opinions Of the gang and Majora asks more than maybe any other Zelda game in that it requires you to get on its level or you’re gonna have a hard time. (And that’s absolutely a weakness)
I’m not a MM expert or anything, but Simmons rant says “if I want to speed run the dungeons look at all the things I have to do”, and that thinking goes directly contrary to the game’s design philosophy. It’s not surprising he didn’t have a good time. (Also, it seems like there’s a lot in that quest chain that carries over between cycles?)
The F-Zero X disrespect
Yeah but too many racing games to compete
can't believe that simmons raged on majora's mask for 5 whole hours
I gotta agree with Kenny.
Mario Kart 64 is my preferred racer on N64 but Diddy Kong Racing is still very good.
The way I put it is MK64 is the more fun game overall but Diddy Kong is the more Complete Package.
I don’t think it’s a competition, there’s a reason why Mario kart 64 is still played competitive and diddy Kong racing is not. Personally I think CTR did diddy Kong racing better than diddy Kong racing
@ThatOldSchoolMagic MK64 is the better multi-player game. DKR is the better single player game. It all comes down to preference
@@stevesteve0521thinking that diddy Kong racong is not played today at all is just an untrue statement
The ability to remember details of all these games is so impressive to me.
My list
1. Banjo Tooie
2. Perfect Dark
3. Ocarina of Time
4. Star Fox 64
5. Mario 64
Majora, Smash, Kazooie, Resident Evil 2 and 007 are the other 5 in no particular order.
Mario 64 is my favorite game of all time but I can understand ocarina of time beating it it's also a masterpiece
It's literally not contradictory.
1:08:00 why is simmons listing steps on how to beat majoras mask? u can literally do that with ANY game xD
I'm so glad I wasn't the only one bothered by that hypocrisy lmao
I like Majora’s Mask and I recently beat it again, but it really is the most tedious game on the N64.
Simmons love for his style of Nintendo games got obliterated by Kenny and Max...😂
Someone give him water after ranting majoras mask. Damn
Man's about to have a mental breakdown after that rant😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😅
Goddammit that rant was cathartic
I would put Rogue Squadron and F-Zero X in an N64 top 10.
Oh god, you guys are going to have to do genres next for a top ten and ad suikoden 2 best RPG ever made. You have to let's play it, Max. It will make you cry, not that you're a father. That's all I'll say on the matter .
So many games that shouldve been layup top 10s got shafted for personal favorites 😂
what a lot of people seem to forget is conkers bad fur day actually had a decent multiplayer mode
I am just going to wonder what they will miss in this Top 10. It's like a game now to see what they forget or ignore.
Sin and Punishment didn't even come out in America
Paper Mario being cut is criminal. And Jet Force Gemini and DK64 should at least made the list.
Woah, wait. N64 was considered a failure? and GC did worse? I feel like everyone I knew had a GC
Where I lived everyone had a PS2 or an XBOX people with a GameCube were far and few between. I had one and one other guy I knew in middle school had one.
I mean you can just look up the sales. Playstation sold 3 times more than N64 and PS2 sold 8 times the amount of Gamecube.
1:51:55 Kenny's heel turn. 😂😂😂😂
I wouldn't have put Mario Kart or Diddy Kong Racing on my list. The best racing game that i remember having the most fun with is Mickey Speedway USA
Zoots Water temple was such an ass dungeon, id save before entering, beat it and reload it over and over until i had that burned into my retina because i use to get lost so goddamn often that i use to time trial myself. No other game had ever made me do that before.
Yes I agree, to me OoT is not even top 5 best Zeldas of all time but nostalgia I guess
I'll take DKR over MK. Kart always felt like it got stale after like a half-hour. Kong felt like it had more to do.
That whole Majora's Mask rant is just describing the progression of the game. You can do that with any game and make it sound tedious.
That's not true... The rant illustrates a lot of back tracking and having to do a lot without a sense of progression. Of course there are many titles that just have u progressing with little to nothing in-between... Point being, it's not a problem that all or even most games experience to the level Simmons was describing...
@dr.evil2some847 If getting new items and abilities doesn't give you a sense of progression, then that's a problem with you, not the game.
@JayTea345 not level progression... Guess u didn't hear the rant after all... Cool points for ur edge tho war chief...
@@dr.evil2some847 You do have a sense of progression, what the hell are you talking about? You get a horse that you can use anywhere in the overworld, you get bottles that store healing items among other useful things
That path is just part of the dungeon, but focused on world-building instead
You are progressing through the game because those items and quests are part of the design of that dungeon. You may love that or hate it but it is progression
Simmons just comes off as the steryotipical cynical gamer that hates on things and thinks of himself as always right
My Personal list would be totally different.
1. Banjo Kazooie
2.Banjo Tooie
3. Mario 64
4.Spider-man ( I know PS1 and future games are better, but it to me was the first super hero game where you felt like the hero and I like crazy everything codes.)
5.Kirby 64
6.Smash
7. Mario Cart
8. Pokémon Snap
9. KI Gold
10. Clay Fighter 63 1/3
10 I decided to pick a guilty pleasure it was either this or Superman. Superman I mainly have fun with the codes jumping around levels and goofing around. Clay fighter you can actually play the base game. If I didn’t have 2 banjo games I’d probably add clay Paper Mario or Stadium.
Bomberman 64 and F-Zero X make my top 10. Not a bad list, though
No Paper Mario, F-Zero X or Majora’s mask but sure put a WWE game in there. Lol what a disaster of a list
There’s more than 6 good games
Goldeneye
Perfect dark
Killer instinct gold
Mario kart 64
Mario party 2
Super Mario 64
Majoras mask
Ocarina of time
1080
Kirby 64
Paper Mario
Star fox 64
Sin & punishment
Super smash pros
Pokemon stadium
Star Wars rogue squadron
I almost forgot
WCW/NWO revenge
WWF no mercy
That Majora’s Mask rant was LEGENDARY 😂😂😂😂
As a fellow Donkey Kong longtime fanboy...
100% agree with Simmons that DK64 is some of the worst Rareware on the console.
It's not that it's eggregiously bad or anything, just near impossible to defend when Rare had *better shit* on the same console.
Ok, how many times has Simmons played Majora's Mask bc JESUS CHRIST man
clearly only once and the game hurt his delicate gamer feelings
maybe just once, if even that lol.
Pokemon Snap, I played the shit out of that game and got sick. Never touched it again.
So majoras mask is just adhd
You guys should do the top ten overrated list of games
His rant was pretty embarrassing honestly and I’m not even that much of a majoras mask fan, he literally described how like 80 percent of adventure style games work
I can't like your comment enough! He just came across as cynical and pedantic and nobody there knew enough to call him on his bullshit
The experience is still there, you've just grown more cynical like Simmons
N64 really did not have that many great games as I thought
See for me:
Perfect Dark > Goldeneye
MM > OOT
DKR > MK
You are correct except when it comes to DKR. It is the better single player experience for sure, but Mario Kart is the superior multiplayer game
@MrNoirocla so to me the multiplayer was less of a value since my group of friends at the time weren't interested in racing games as a whole.
@@darkshibe2267 that's fair
Everybody would be like why is this game that no one has ever heard of over top of (the game they like)?
I'm just saying... lo
Goldeneye deserves top 3 over Banjo. Kenny is right, Goldeneye sold 6 million more than Perfect Dark.
Absolutely it does
Goldeneye sold 6million more because it’s a known movie. Perfect Dark is miles better as a game.
@@XxSkineyxXsoundtrack of goldeneye alone makes it better than PD
Is Simmons a scheduler in real life ?
I wouldve put diddy kong racing in the top 10 over WWE No Mercy
22:41 a sequel is better than the og?
That's his argument?
Which goes against their arguments on how alot of the sequels like spiderman 2/GoW are less impactful because they werent the first. LOL the hypocrisy is wild
I mean, it's not really a sequel
The problem with these lists that they make is that they are not clear in purpose.
Majoras Mask is my Favorite Zelda but I agree it's a headache inducing mega side quest more than a proper game.
No Sin and punishment and no Ogre battle 64, this top is just a joke.
Those are top 15 at best. I’d put Rayman 2, Blast Corps, WCW Revenge, Diddy Kong Racing ahead of those.
@ Are you telling me that the games you just listed are better? It's a joke I hope. Sin and punishment and ogre battle 64 are at least top 10 or even top 5. And mario 64 must be first, Zelda has nothing to do there.
They both made the board but neither have a legit argument to make top ten in my opinion.
We all have our own opinions on what our top 10 would look like, but I thought the list they came up with was good. If someone gave you those 10 games you'd have a great sampling of some of the best N64 had to offer. Awesome stream!
Diddy Kong Racing. Best racing game. Can't play music with 3 players or more.
Sure. Ok Simmons.
he is full of shit in this in particular
no surprise Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time is no.1
Sorry but Majora top 5 for sure. Oot can stay off the list imo. Majora's laundry list of chores isnt nearly as bad as oot or especially TWILIGHT FUCKING PRINCESS
Sendico actually had N64 with A Mega man legends game think that's goated cause American Megaman 64 is like 700 lmaoo
damn mad people actually love majoras mask i thought i was the only crazy one lmfao
The disrespect for pokemon is crazy lol just cuz I have pokemon stadium on my list u think N64 is my fist gaming system ?! Lol PS was hugely loved not only for the game play but the mini games lol there is a reason why Pikachu is in smash lol
there is Planet 64 pretty good game
No OOT is devastating
OOT is there
@spiderhulk26 it was not played was the tragedy
Diddy kong not on a top 10 is criminal. Mario kart plays horrible in comparison
I agree 100% with the list
1:07:09 Majora's Mask rant [2:02:50 lol]

How is Golden Eye not Top 2...... travesty.
Because as impactful as the game was and the memories attached to it, its just not that good of a game
@@MrNoiroclathat maybe be but it is one of the most important video games in the fps genre
@@lewisgrant7622 i dont care about whats important i want to hear their favorites. if i wanted to see whats important i would go to google
Simmons explaining how tedious Majora’s Mask is pure gold.
Simmons just describing the events of MM as if it's a bad thing. Yes, you have to complete a lot of tasks to beat a zelda game, including some mundane ones. That IS zelda. If you don't like that, fine, but it's at the core of virtually every zelda ever.
thank you, he came off as extremely pedantic and hypocritical and he loooooves japanese rpgs which can be so much more grindy and stupid
1:07:04-1:10:54 RANT. GOD.
