BUSTED on the Otis Lexan Scenic Elevator at Dillard's in Orange Park Mall in Orange Park, FL

As you guys all know, normally I don't film in malls, but after finding videos of this elevator online taken back in 2008 and 2014, I decided to check this thing out myself. And given how old the videos of this thing are, I was NOT expecting this to still be original!!! I may have been on plenty of Lexans at this point but this is only the SECOND time I've ever seen Lexan (excluding the 80s/90s ones on Disney property) in the State of Florida! And I'm not sure how much more I'll get to see than this. This elevator is completely original from when the Store (and I believe the mall) was built in 1975 and is in EXCELLENT Condition for a Department Store/Mall Elevator and has an EPIC Motor!
Unfortunately though, as you can see, I got busted when I decided to take it for another ride. Not a smart idea on my part, but I did it in attempts to make my video more detailed and to eventually show a view of the indicator. It really sucks one of the VERY FEW places with Original Lexan in the State of Florida doesn't allow photography, but both of the staff members were at least respectful, and so I did as told. And at least I showed the fixtures and got a 1 full ride on the elevator, so that's better than nothing! Oh well. That said though, I wouldn't recommend filming here because since this elevator is glass to begin with, plus the lady standing in front of the elevator that busted me, your chances of being busted are pretty high. And besides, most of you guys aren't losers like me and have plenty of Lexans in your home areas, so WHY would you want to stop at a random mall just to see one of these!?!? LOL.
As for the elevator, it was installed in 1975, and has remained 100% untouched since!
Honestly, ignoring the fact that you got busted, this is actually a really great video! The quality is fantastic and you did a great job of getting a view of the fixtures and everything:) Also, Dillard’s is a private company and they were at least nice about it. However, it’s absolutely ridiculous for them to tell you to stop filming because one, there’s cameras and vloggers everywhere and two, you’re just a kid trying to film the elevator minding your own business doing nothing wrong.
Very well said, Gabe
Floridian elevator whi you got busted. And floridian elevator I made an world record of lifts. I remember tons of elevators where ever I been I remember.

MegaZeldafan1 Thank You!
Oh, and I'm not sure what has changed since I left retail. But after 9/11, public places would crack down on filming and photography on private property... or even public property like malls, restaurants, etc. Understand their prohibiting you from filming is a security measure. They don't know it your looking at building schematics, checking out security, employees etc. Not every vlogger is asking permission for the venue or to use the images of passersby, or even marketing images.
You remember this.
I used to be a manager at that store in the early 2000s. I believe the building opened with the mall in the late 70s, early 80s. The mall doesn't own that building. Dillard's does. So yes, it is private property. Good, the manager was nice to you. I was the sassy manager that was sent a lot of times for this kind of thing.
Whoever that lady is she is rude as hell!
PHOTOGRAPHY IS NOT A CRIME!
Yeah, this is a nice elevator!
Agreed!
You will often be punished for filming anything.
Wonder what this store originally was. That place looks very vintage.
Built in 1975, this store was originally an Ivey's, but it was purchased by Dillard's in 1990.
It was an Iveys then Masion Blanche for a while then Dillards.
a guy filmed that elevator two months later and he didn’t get discouraged like you did.
still a very nice elevator!:)
It's a classic.
This is the nicest elevator at Orange Park mall. The Volusia mall dillard's has a similar glass lift!
That's right!
Did you even film that one.
This is why I normally start filming elevators on my Motorola G6 phone
Why?
I just want to let you know i just looked at The Washington Prime Group's Code of conduct it said no unauthorized photography or videoing.
That explains a lot
I filmed at 3 malls that are owned by Washington Prime Group and had no problem. Also, my local mall is also owned by Washington Prime Group, and they don't have anything! Nothing! The whole mall is one floor!
So Washington prime group owns the Dillard's at Orange Park mall.
remember 9/11
Judging by this Dillard’s this used to be a Gayfers because the one in Panama City Florida at the former Panama City Mall looks like this except it’s 1 floor only, I am quite amazed how vintage this Dillard’s is because mostly I’ve seen vintage Macy’s like mostly former Rich’s and Davidson’s where I’m originally from? 🤔 And Otis elevator in a Dillard’s is extremely rare, I mostly seen Dillard’s with Schindler elevators and escalators mostly, and one location in Newnan, Georgia have a Thyssenkrupp elevator and escalator. 🤔
Actually, this store was never a Gayfers, Belk was a Gayfers & traces back to the local store May-Cohens. This store was originally an Ivey's, & became Dillard's in 1990. May-Cohens renamed itself as May Florida in 1987 was converted into Baton Rouge's Maison Blanche in 1988. As Maison Blanche became a division of Mercantile Stores in 1992, their Florida stores were rebranded by Mobile, Alabama's Gayfers chain. When Dillard's acquired Mercantile Stores (including Gayfers) in 1998, both Dillard's & Gayfers overlapped in Jacksonville. As a result, Dillard's sold the 4 Gayfers stores in northeast Florida & 3 JB Whites in the Columbia, South Carolina area to Belk in exchange for 9 of theirs in Virgina & Tennessee.
@@lenaa2003 Wow so this Dillard’s was a Belk? 😳 And interesting to know that Belk used to be May Cohens never heard of them, oh okay this Dillard’s used to be Ivey’s a place like Belk, but North Carolina’s version of Rich’s and Gayfer’s makes sense, oh yeah heard of Maison Blanche Mall of Louisiana used to have one, oh wow Jacksonville is the only market in Florida that is large with no Macy’s or Burdines reminds me of Mississippi in general and most of Alabama in that situation, okay that deal is similar to what Macy’s and Belk did with Parisians many decades later in Tennessee and North Carolina and what Kohl’s did to Georgia to locations Belk or other stores didn’t want. 🤔
@@codybrandoncargle3129 no, this Dillard's was never a Belk, like I said, Dillard's purchased Gayfers in 1998 & both companies already had stores in the area. Dillard's chose a deal with Belk to take over the 4 Jacksonville Gayfers, which allowed them to enter northeast Florida for the 1st time.
@@lenaa2003 Okay I gotcha man! 👍🏻
@@lenaa2003 Oh okay I gotcha, so the Dillard’s was in a former Ivey’s alright makes sense now, interesting how Jacksonville evolved like that but no Macy’s in the area considering it’s bigger than Tallahassee still! 🤔
Yeah photography is not a crime at all.
You can still go to jail for this.
As many people should film this elevator so the store realizes they are wasting their time busting people for something pointless.
Sorry you had issues making the video. Lots of people who make trip reports or who are airplane geeks have this issues. I’m a member of a group who are interested in postbox (mailbox) and they even get stopped from time to time. Photography is not a crime but I guess it freaks people out a bit. I was once told that in the United States people are free to take photos in public places. However this was just something that someone said on a blog and I don’t know what the definition of a public place is and even if this is true or not.
You got it.
I guess all Florida Malls have this policy as well so your going to have to avoid the malls
Just stop taking shots there
I looked at the malls code of conduct and yes he was right you have to ask permission before you do so.
Where did you find it?
@@FloridianElevators I did not see it on the Washington Prime group's policies.
But i found out that Dillard's has no problem with filming.
@@FloridianElevators this lady sounded spanish or jamaican
@@user-vs9yx6yl8g Who cares?

MegaZeldafan1 Yeah I would not put up with this lady or her boss I will film if I want!Lol!
MegaZeldafan1 the store is private property, they have every right to enforce no photography rules.
Genesee Trains & Elevators to be 100 percent honest I don't care!
@@geneseetrainselevators2448 remember 9 11😊
If you get busted next time, just say that you’re a new janitor just starting
Photography is not a crime and I’m glad I didn’t have any problems when I videoed a elevator at my local Macy’s store
That’s mainly ‘cause College Station is a very friendlier town located here in Texas, Which is a small city that mainly focuses on Aggies and also within Texas A&M. Although it may depend on the situation, but majority of the time College Station is by far the most easiest cities to film in.
Photography is not a crime.
I usually take only one roundtrip on a service elevator unless I start on an intermediate floor, but I don't blame what you were doing.
