VERY IMPORATNT.... Some subscribers have told me they are not getting notification of when I upload a new video. UA-cam has been working on this issue. My web site www.sudokuguy.com/ One of the biggest mistakes beginners make is to put all possible numbers in each cell. This a lot of work and not necessary until you get to the very advanced puzzles. If a possible number can go in a row, column or block more than twice do NOT put that number in those empty cells. If a possible number can ONLY go in a row, column or block twice then put that number in each of the 2 cells.
As you progress you will find that this is technique makes it not only less messy, but easier to solve.

This is important for those who speak another language.
You can turn on captions and have them automatically translated into the llanguage of your choice.
At the bottom of each vvideo click on the cc in a little square then click on the settings gear next to the cc on the right. Here you are able to select tha language of your choice so you can read the captions at the bottom of the video in your chosen language.
This Sudoku Guy seems so very easy going, explains things well and I like his friendly smile. If I knew him in real life, and depending what stage of my life, he would either be my favourite teacher, preferred uncle or best friend. Really enjoy these videos!

The "I don't recommend" way is how I used to solve the puzzles. I came here to try and learn some of the techniques that would help me get unstuck because I just wasn't understanding them. It's so much easier to learn when someone is showing rather than telling. I'm so grateful for your tutorials because less frustration means more fun :) I plan to watch them all!

I used to take no notice of sudoku puzzles but one day, decided to have a go at learning how to do them. I searched You Tube for a tutorial and found Sudoku guy! He explains it so well and I love his enthusiasm! Thank you - just wish I’d had a teacher like him when I was at school!

Thank you for your advice. Although I’m better at doing the puzzles than I was when I first started, one problem that I have noticed which happens frequently is that I end up with two cells in one block and each of the two cells has the same two numbers, eg 36 and 36, and I find it difficult to work out which of the two numbers goes in one cell and which in the other. I’m sure I’ll get there.
@@debbierichens3910 Hello Debbie. It is called matching pairs. I have many lessons and tutorials on matching pairs. They are important to help you solve. If you come across matching pairs that's great because as you continue with the puzzle one of them gets solved and this means the other cell with the same numbers is solved. Go to sudokuguy.com , scroll down to Index of strategies and you will find all the tutorials and lessons involving matching pairs. Click on the blue number and it will take you to the tutorial or lesson on matching pairs. Have fun and thanks for your support.

As you go onto very difficult puzzles putting in small numbers helps unless you have an excellent memory. Even the champions put in small numbers.

The distinguishing factor in your presentations is slowness. The others I have found are on a computer screen with the cursor flying all over the place, so I don't know what's going on. Keeping it slow and explaining each step, no matter that it be repetitive, makes all the difference. Have listened to two others explain the matching pairs business, and got it some but not all. Now on only the third lesson, and have learned several important things: for example, never occured to me to look at the individual columns and rows. Thank you. No need for response.

When you put a small number in two cells in a house, you're effectively saying, "that number can only be in one of those two cells" and not any place else in the house.
But that doesn't mean no other number is possible in those two cells
Then separately you put another number in those same two cells, so therefore that second number can only be in one of those two cells.
But that doesn't man no other numbers are possible in those two cells.
Yet somehow you conclude, "since it's a pair, no other number can go there"
How?
What one those cells may have a possibility of having a third number that we haven't determined yet. We haven't put all the candidates in every cell, so how can you say no other number other than the two in that cell can go there?
Sorry you don't understand a matching pair. can occur in a row column or block. When this happens let'd say a 2 and 7 it means that 2 or 7 can only occur in one of the 2 cells. a 27/27 matching pair means that one of these numbers will be in one of those cells and other number will be in the other cell. The ramifications were late in coming. For such a simple puzzle you need a much less rigid approach. For example: all the 1s, 3s and 4s, right from the start, in any order you like, then all the 5s, then all the rest. No writing in of candidates. No counting. No dogged repetition of the same highly restricted technique.
I'm a teacher and this is for beginners. You are obvviously expereinced.
