Andre The Giant vs Rowdy Roddy Piper - 1984 Rowdy Piper stars in John Carpenter’s “They Live” -1988 Shepard Fairey’s “Andre the Giant Has a Posse”- 1989
So wait, let me see if I've got this straight. A movie made by a company told its audience to question authority and fight against companies trying to sell to them. This in turn inspired someone to sell apparel telling people to obey and buy what companies are trying to sell them as a way of telling companies that they don't want to buy what they're selling, and companies are selling these things to people who want to buy them from the companies that are selling them as a way to tell companies they aren't buying what they're selling... Why does everything smell like copper?
It's essentially the same as Anonymous using the Guy Fawkes mask from V For Vendetta, basing their image on a costructed idea made by a corporation, to then speak out against corporations
I bought one of his hats long before the hipsters turned it into a trendy thing, I thought it was a brilliant They Live tribute.. every person i've talked to who wears Obey clothing about They Live, they look at me like they don't know what i'm talking about.. It gets me thinking.. so why buy it then? the exact reason of the movie's plot. following each other in line like mindless slaves consuming what they are told to consume without knowing why.. because everyone else is doing it, following everyone else like a brainless moron. haha trendy huh?
They Live is one of my favorite movies.
I’m all out of bubblegum
pretty ironic now that he is the one with OBEY posted on the bill board advertisements now
