  • Aimee rescued Jude the tiny porcupine when she was a baby. With some love and patience, she warmed up to her. Jude loves playing, drinking from her bottle and doing her happy dance. But the day did come when Jude had to be released.

    I rescued a porcupine here in Wyoming. It's mother had been run over.
    I raised it on my place. We took it with us into the woods several times, but it showed no inclination to leave.
    We eventually gave it to the Earthfire Institute in Teton Valley. It's a wildlife sanctuary with a mission of education.
    That porcupine spent the rest of its life visiting grade school classes around the County. Next time I saw it it was huge, and friendly.
    We named it Spike. For years afterward we found quills in the house.

    I think it takes a special kind of strength to be able to love and care for a precious animal and put them in the dangers of the wild. In many cases, in today's world there is no choice for the animal, or the human. In this case it is clear the little one wanted to go which is good.

    • @CuddleBuddiesChannel
      @CuddleBuddiesChannel  Місяць тому +8

      Absolutely, it's a bittersweet decision to release an animal into the wild after caring for them. While it can be difficult, it's often the best option for their long-term well-being and natural instincts. It's heartening when the animal shows signs of readiness and willingness to return to its natural habitat. Thank you for understanding the complexities of wildlife rehabilitation. 🌿🦔

    Nursing human babies can be painful when they start teething. But porcupines have QUILLS. Ouch! Maybe that's why the mom disappeared up a tree. (Kidding of course.) I'm so glad you gave Jude the start she needed in life. Well done.

But, each of those roles requires a specific kind of relationship different from the others…

      @CuddleBuddiesChannel  Місяць тому +5

      It's completely understandable to have concerns about Jude's release. While state regulations are in place to protect wildlife, the transition to the wild can be challenging for rehabilitated animals. However, wildlife rehabilitators like Aimee undergo extensive training to prepare animals for release, and they do their best to give them the skills they need to survive. Let's hope for the best for Jude's journey back into the wild! Your love for animals is what matters most. ❤️🌿

      @@CuddleBuddiesChannel That’s why I said “but what do I know”. I’m pretty sure someone like her would do everything she could do. Let’s face it, the fact that she rescues animals is a testament to her good morals in my book. It’s when I hear “the state made a new rule”. That automatically makes me perk up. There are so many cases of bureaucratic incompetence and petty tyrants that don’t exactly line up with a free society.

    • @jennifermiddaugh5613
      @jennifermiddaugh5613 13 днів тому

      I can understand why they have that rule though. A lot of people would capture wild animals just for the novelty and not care for them properly like this lady did. When I was a teenager, this jerk in my neighborhood found a big gopher tortoise in the woods behind our neighborhood and took it home to sell it. My father snuck into his yard, took it and put it back in the woods.

    In some cases these animals are no longer able to live in the wild since they become more domesticated.
    This particular porcupine probably would have died if she didn't care for it. She devoted her time and funds and now she is forced to set it free in the wild. Hmmmmm

    Uneducated crowd: «Humans have a lot of things to learn from animals !»
    Reality: The mother abandoned her baby... Humans saved her lovely child.

    I would like to add that I disagree with the time limit on how long she would be able to keep the animal. With such an awesome keeper and the top notch enclosure... I think the woman should have been granted full custody of "Jude" for her entire life. She was granted the animal as an infant... So it really grew up with her HUMAN mommy. Letting it go into the wild was wrong in this case. The state should re evaluate their ideas.

    This release was a death sentence. From early baby this animal learned nothing about surviving in the wild, where there is food or water, what type is safe to drink.....animals don't just figure it out.loke that in the wild when separated by parents.
    Should have fought that new law.
    Horrible!!!! Horrible!!

    So you think she'll be able to fend for herself & feed herself when all of the sudden she has no more cornucopia of wonderful varieties of food supplied every day of her life? Seems a bit cruel.

    What a ridiculous rule to have them 180 days. this lady is a rescuer/rehabber. she doesnt keep them for pets. what if that porcupine needed more time, before being released. rehabbers have hands on knowledge and experience, as to whats best for the animal, rather than some ignorant state official, probably sitting at a desk, pushing pieces of paper around.

      It's frustrating when bureaucratic rules clash with the best interests of the animals and the expertise of caregivers. 😞 Aimee's dedication and expertise undoubtedly make her the best advocate for the animals she rescues. Hopefully, regulations can become more flexible to accommodate situations like these. 🦔🙏
