Girl I was absolutely impressed. I'm even considering investing in WoW Plus just for drag race Holland. Aside from the set the girls gave me more of a All-Stars vibe then A first-season experience. As a UA-cam follower and fan of Roem I have questions. I was honestly surprised that she was even invited to compete. Her UA-cam channel is mainly focussed on an animated parody o f RuPaul's Drag Race mainly focussed on RuPaul. With her having absolutely no other experience except for social media and that was confirmed by her lip sync. Poor thing, I think she was selected as the girl to go home first. With all that out of the way you are absolutely on fire this episode. Your look was the hottest and you had me thinking of Bussy Queen Head Lining At Yuk Yuks.🤣😉💖
In carnaval in Brazil, the woman that walks in front of the samba drumming is called "Rainha de Bateria", which roughly translates to "queen of the drumming". It's a very respected and marketed position. She's represents the beauty of the samba school, bringing more animation to the instrumentalists, pulling the samba, not letting the rhythm drop. Probably what Abby is referencing with her look.
I think Chelsea Boy's concept was pretty concrete. To my understanding she was referencing the Xenomorph Queen from the movie Aliens (1986) which i guess many didn't get right away.

For Miss Abby OMG's bikini entrance look, it doesn't seem like they knew they were going to be in the water, but she is from a mermaid drag house: "Mermaid Mansion." So I think her look was supposed to be related to her drag house.
I actually thought her hair reminded me of algae/seaweed but in a very flat and underwhelming representation so the Mermaid house now makes perfect sense… a year later as I’m watching this :p
Medusa is referred to as the "queen of the gorgons" in the literature, so it does seem random for production to take issue with such an insignificant detail. I was sad to see her go, but this alternative garment wasn't good. I agree with the judges that the boots were a bad choice and looking at them paired with the Medusa look reaffirms that critique.
I call sabotage against Roem. Why didn't they just let her go the runway in the Medusa look and let the judges decide whether or not it fit the theme? They knew that if they did that she would have a better chance of being safe and they (production) didn't want that. They cast her, let her spend money and prepare for the challenges knowing that they weren't going to let her get past week one or two. Ru don't play. Don't come for the queen unless you're planning (and able) to kill her; because if you don't, she will definitely kill you, without hesitation.
it fit great with the medusa look it was more a mortal combat style interpretation than the standard drag race look, i'm bored of seeing everything with a fkn high heel .

Someone has to go home first and there can only be one winner (usually) so at the end of the day it's not that big of a deal, it just doesn't sit right with me. I think Mama’s look was a Pride/BLM moment. The heart was actually browns and blacks which is either the BLM flag or the bear flag, her arms have the transgender colours and her skirt has the original eight rainbow colours of the Pride flag.she was giving me Violet Chaicki in the face, also. I didn’t care for her runway look, but I thought this was fine not so much for the fashion, but for the message. As for some of the others, Megan gave me Sonique in the face and Envy was clearly giving us Raven tease. I wasn’t mad at it.

In Brazil, our Carnaval has a lot of members and organizations that compete with each other for the trophy every year. One category is “Rainha de Bateria” (it can literally be translated to “Queen of the Beat/Drums”) and these women are literally evaluated on charisma and the way they walk and dance the Carnaval runway. Anyways, completely agree that it could be way more opulent but it does make sense with the theme! Luv ya!

I get Mary as "Queen of Heaven" which is an epithet of hers. Especially in heavily Christian countries, Mary is very much revered as the queen and sits on the throne alongside her son (thanks 12 years of catholic school!)
As a brazilian, I loved Abby, but as you said, there's so much more she could do, like there so much bigger and with more accessories, and it would show that she have versatility and not just wear shiny underwears, but loved her. Stan the brazilian queen.

"Carnival Queen" is not that relevant I guess, is like a carnival pageant that nobody really cares. The queen that everybody knows of is the "Rainha de Bateria" (Queen of the Band, tough to translate sorry). Here in Brazil there are 2 huge and famous parades where Schools of Samba (like a drag house hahahah) compete to win the parade. One of the requirements is to have a band and in the band you have THE QUEEN. Usually are famous and gorgeous women that play that role. Google "Rainha de Bateria Sabrina Sato" - my fave.
The dragscene in nl is realkybig, or at least in Amsterdam. I'm surprised they didn't choose any if the established-famous dragqueens for the show. Aybe this is to offer a chance to newer queens?

I loved Madame Madness' makeup but I didn't like that her entrance look combined yellow and black houndstooth with bright pink. I feel like yellow and black in that pattern would be better off which muted or neutral colours. Maybe if she went with a lighter yellow, non-patterned fabric, it would match the sunset vibes I get from the makeup and the pretty pink hair. I'm so excited to see a bearded queen on thew show, though!
I got so excited to see the freddie mercury runway! Such a cool take! I actually loved the boots because they’re styled in the same way Freddie’s pants were when he wore that iconic yellow jacket. Overall she probably could have rhinestoned the leotard or something to make it pop too. Also i wish she left the mustache one but 🤷♀️

As a Brazilian, I'm beyond proud of what Abby brought to the runway. It may seem a little bit "simple" compared to those opulent Carnival Queens' costumes but, if you get closer you'll see a lot of beautiful details and hard work put in it. Those Carnival costumes are very difficult to reproduce and even if you get to reproduce them, they won't look as opulent as the original ones because the materials they use are very expensive and sometimes really hard to find (like the feathers). Some of those costumes are over 30,000 dollars.
I believe that for the brazilian fans, Abby’s look made sense completely, since it’s our culture. She was representing the spirit of Carnival Parades, the queen is someone who leads and animates, she’s like the focus of the whole thing. I think we were just happy to see that represented on the runway
Chelsea Boy's runway might be one of my favorite looks. It's simultaneously regal and imposing. 💜 Only thing I disagree with is that I actual like Janey's wig as is. The bright yellow and sorta sleek look matches the video game aesthetic imo.

Yes, you are correct about the name "Carnival Queen" that's what they're called it here in Caribbean but they're usually the biggest most over the top designs
The Alien queen look wasn't a vague concept- it's literally the Alien Queen from the Alien movies. Much more of a concrete queen concept than some of the others.
Explaining abby's concept: Carnival Parades happen to the sound of huge percussion groups playing samba. These groups are named "Bateria". Throughout the parade there are a lot of muses, women that are responsible to guard and transition the floats and sections of the parade, wearing stunning costumes, dancing and walking. Of course the "Bateria" has its own muse, named "Rainha de Bateria" or "Queen of Bateria", (Rainha = Queen). Usually the women who play the Rainha de Bateria are the ones that dance the most and move the most, so their costumes are usually lighter and smaller (not as simple as abby's, but still).
As a Brazilian, yes we have carnaval queens, if I recall correctly they are the woman who are at the front dancing and singing for their school. And I also agree with you, I would be happier if she got more over the top with the costume.

About Abby OMG queen look, yes, there actually exists carnival queens in Brazil, they kind of "lead" the parade in some way.
"Carnival Queen" is not that relevant I guess, is like a carnival pageant that nobody really cares. The queen that everybody knows of is the "Rainha de Bateria" (Queen of the Band, tough to translate sorry). Here in Brazil there are 2 huge and famous parades where Schools of Samba (like a drag house hahahah) compete to win the parade. One of the requirements is to have a band and in the band you have THE QUEEN. Usually are famous and gorgeous women that play that role. Google "Rainha de Bateria Sabrina Sato" - my fave.

I loved Madame Madness' makeup but I didn't like that her entrance look combined yellow and black houndstooth with bright pink. I feel like yellow and black in that pattern would be better off which muted or neutral colours. Maybe if she went with a lighter yellow, non-patterned fabric, it would match the sunset vibes I get from the makeup and the pretty pink hair. I'm so excited to see a bearded queen on thew show, though!
I got so excited to see the freddie mercury runway! Such a cool take! I actually loved the boots because they’re styled in the same way Freddie’s pants were when he wore that iconic yellow jacket. Overall she probably could have rhinestoned the leotard or something to make it pop too. Also i wish she left the mustache one but 🤷♀️

As a Brazilian, I'm beyond proud of what Abby brought to the runway. It may seem a little bit "simple" compared to those opulent Carnival Queens' costumes but, if you get closer you'll see a lot of beautiful details and hard work put in it. Those Carnival costumes are very difficult to reproduce and even if you get to reproduce them, they won't look as opulent as the original ones because the materials they use are very expensive and sometimes really hard to find (like the feathers). Some of those costumes are over 30,000 dollars.

I believe that for the brazilian fans, Abby’s look made sense completely, since it’s our culture. She was representing the spirit of Carnival Parades, the queen is someone who leads and animates, she’s like the focus of the whole thing. I think we were just happy to see that represented on the runway

The Alien queen look wasn't a vague concept- it's literally the Alien Queen from the Alien movies. Much more of a concrete queen concept than some of the others.
In Caribbean carnival (similar to Brazil) the woman who is the head or has the biggest costume is called ' Queen of the band'
Explaining abby's concept:
Carnival Parades happen to the sound of huge percussion groups playing samba. These groups are named "Bateria". Throughout the parade there are a lot of muses, women that are responsible to guard and transition the floats and sections of the parade, wearing stunning costumes, dancing and walking. Of course the "Bateria" has its own muse, named "Rainha de Bateria" or "Queen of Bateria", (Rainha = Queen). Usually the women who play the Rainha de Bateria are the ones that dance the most and move the most, so their costumes are usually lighter and smaller (not as simple as abby's, but still).
As a Brazilian, yes we have carnaval queens, if I recall correctly they are the woman who are at the front dancing and singing for their school. And I also agree with you, I would be happier if she got more over the top with the costume.
