My cook system is mostly Toaks stuff too, but much lighter. My entire cook set weighs under 10 ounces. I have a Toaks 750 ml pot (no bail handle) and a Toaks 450ml cup that nests inside. I still put the system in the larger orange mesh sack, but ditched the sack the 450ml cup fits into. I made a reflectix cozy for the cup and that all nests into the 750ml pot. I throw in my Fancy Feest alcohol stove, lighter, wind screen (made from aluminum baking pan), vapor barrier (piece of foil), sponge and bandanna. I keep my alcohol fuel in a separate bottle in the side pouch of my backpack (next to where I keep my cook kit).
I also use a Toaks long handle Ti spoon. I love that thing.
Probably a bit of overkill to take a canister stove and the wood burning stove. If I want a wood burning option (usually as a portable fire pit), I take an Ikea stainless steel utensil strainer. Makes for a great hobo stove/portable fire pit and is very light.

    Nice kit.
I'm with you, I love hot food and drink from a cup or bowl. Unlike ultra light backbackers that enjoy slurping cold gruel from a plastic bag while hunched under a rock.

I got the 1100ml one with the frying pan lid.. And of course pocket rocket and gas, ect... Ect... But for my wood burning part Caz I like to run both myself as you do. I use the brush box pocket or the emberlit fire box.. Thanks for turning me onto the pot grabber.. Cool little thing to have..

You can reduce weight even more by cutting the sponge smaller, get rid of bandanna and the inner mesh covers. I love toaks but they are on the pricey side.

Nice system. It definitely has merits as a twig stove. I've got a little firebox type of stove (Lixada cheapie) that has an insert to hold a trangia style burner which gives me a dual fuel capability. Now that being said For the extra quickness I am very much a fan of the isobutane burners as well. Even a small can, if starting with a full one, there is enough fuel for a multi-day hike especially if you're not heating up all of your drinks.
I actually came across this video because i've been looking at getting some titanium cups and small cooking gear and Toaks seems to be very commonly recommended. It's not the absolute cheapest out there but they seem to have a real good reputation.

I love your system and the way you have that pack together did everything come with the top covers around them or did you have to buy them individually. Great informative video thank you for sharing

To accomplish your eating a meal with drinking coffee or tea would it be easier to use one cup and then simply get a pouch cozy? Put pouch in cozy, pour boiling water in pouch. While dinner is cooking, make coffee with the same cup? Also have you considered seeing about using an alcohol stove instead of gas? Those can nest inside cups easily and are sometimes lighter overall than gas canister setups (when you include the tank).
The Firebox Nano is light (not just the tip version which is 4oz but the stainless which is 6) and they are designed to have an alcohol burner nest inside them as well. As a suggestion/alternative

I prefer the gas over alcohol even though it is a bit heavier but its quicker. Sometimes I stop on the trail and make a quick coffee and it's just easier with the gas. it's more convenience for me. I mostly do photography. So I am not walking miles and miles. In most cases, I am going in 2 or 3 miles to get set up for photos. So I can be heavier. Its always a toss-up. Go a bit heavier and your more comfortable or go lighter and be less comfortable. Thx for the suggestion. I do have a few alochol stoves I might try it a couple and see if it bothers me.

Secret Stuff ™ okey dokey. Yeah I was thinking like a multiday backpacking trip. That said if your meals are often packed and pouches that have some sort of mylar or foil lining look into the DIY pouch cozies. That right there can eliminate one cup from your kit which would save a fair amount of weight

I like it. I can go heavy when I am out with a few people or break it down to 2 pots when I am by myself. I doubt I will ever buy another set of camping pots again

I might try to refine it a little bit but it seems like almost exactly what I'm looking for, and that is what I also really like about it; its versatility. I have also seen some guys with a similar system strap their fuel canister to the top using a Ranger Band to wrap around the whole system. That might keep things a little more contained since you cannot nest the fuel canister inside this system.

    • @SurvivalSavvvy
      @SurvivalSavvvy 7 років тому

I toss my fuel in the top of my lid on my pack and the pots on the side. So it makes it quick to get them and make a coffee. Depends on the pack a person is using though

Of course, you can all Titanium you can. Just understand Titanium heats fast which will burn your food so keep it on the edge of coals

Excuse me for asking, but all of this stuff seems brand new and unused? Have you really any experience in backpacking or hiking? If so - what do you like /dislike?

When the video was made it is brand new a year back. I rarely take the whole setup unless my wife is with me. I normally have this broke down smaller for just me. I do not do the traditional backpacking anymore like I use to. Now I backpack in like 5 miles with my camera equipment looking for perfect shots. Not much to hate about titanium other than it's not much good for frying in. To just boil water its great. ua-cam.com/video/XPPmLLoHcds/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/NDIfipS59qU/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/qPU7gcqC09A/v-deo.html You should learn how to search a channel was not hard to find my other videos

0:25 - 9.6 oz is not almost a pound. There are 16 oz in a pound, so the kit weighs 1.6 pounds.
