Tbh, the story itself is kinda that way. Pretty dark if you look beyond face value. Ultear's arc was devastating yet meaningful to me. To date, still haven't had the courage to see through Final arc - or rather the way they revealed zeref's and natsu's relationship was also such a huge turn off after all the build up they were doing but whatever. Getting back into it.
I'm still waiting for Gray to perform his once in a life time EX Iceed shell Ultimate final magic in demon ice form on top, which will be his saigoNO mahou, and have everyone cry over his death. Yeah baby torment my soul.
Not excited at all... The gray treatment just sucks... After all the progress he's made since tartarus by defeating the arc main villain a spriggan solo, fight end equally and stand to zeref, he's now useless even lucy has more power-ups and spotlight.
Yeah, I don't know why the manga authors do that: show a powerful and important side-character first, make us like him, only to make him useless and weak later. another perfect example is Sanji from One Piece or Shoto from My Hero Academia. This terribly sucks.

I learned that Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest was getting an animated adaptation in 2021 from Todd Haberkorn himself.
Anime is slated for 2024 release :)

This sounds kinda darker and more mature than the original one and I would love it if the Anime could be like that too 👍🏻
That would make sooo much more sense given ALL the Fairy Tail guild went through in the earlier years of the anime/their story.
