Heyman is right about being willing to listen to ideas and about believing in his wrestlers. But he was also a booking genius. He knows how to craft storylines and make you care. And it comes so easy to him because hes so good at it. He even demonstrated it in this video just answering a question. He can build and hype anything up and sell ice to eskimos.

Paul Heyman has set a high bar as a booker and a producer. I know there are some who refuse to give him an iota of credit for his early career and barely want to give him credit for his time in WWE, but the man is a certified genius for understanding psychology and the 6-60 year old male brain.
The man created ECW, made Brock Lensar a household name, and is currently the mastermind behind the best faction storyline in modern day wrestling. And not only that, he himself can deliver an Oscar worthy promo!
Paul Heyman deserves a hall of fame spot sooner rather than later.

Paul is considered a booking genius (albeit a lousy businessman) but he's underrated as an impressionist- his Austin and Foley are great. How was he a lousy businessman? Because InDemand withheld the 2.8 million they owed ECW because they thought the company wasn't going to be around in a few months (despite them having their last full year of business being the most profitable it'd ever been) and wanted to pay it to a bankruptcy trustee for pennies on the dollar? If InDemand had given them the money they owed them, they could've worked something out that would've meant the company would still be around today.

I look back at that era of Smackdown with such fondness. From 2002 to early 2004, Smackdown was head and shoulders above Raw in every aspect you could think of, storylines, characters, in ring work, etc., and that was when Paul was essentially running the show. But then it was like Vince McMahon got butthurt that the show which heavily featured his son in law to a sickening degree wasn’t getting the kind of praise that Smackdown was getting so he decided to ruin it, putting Edge and Benoit on Raw, burying Rey Mysterio despite him becoming world champion, and Heyman was sent to OVW shortly afterwards. Good riddance to Vince McMahon and fair play to Heyman for getting his Hall of Fame induction.

The two biggest minds for the business in pro wrestling ever hand picking teams and building matches facing off against one another. I have to say I was a huge WCW fan loved Sting and all but, WCW was incredibly stupid they could not spot a diamond in that locker room if you walked and smacked them in the face with it. They had no vision Steve Austin (was such a situation and if they had really looked and developed their guys they would still be in business.) Here's another one watch a video of WCW wrestlers called the Skyscrapers (FYI the Undertaker is one of them) before he was the dead man.
Another great talent that they pissed away.

The thing I loved about ECW was , for me, top to bottom I cared about every wrestler and every match. I got hyped as much for the Danny Doring / Amish Roadkill opening tag as the world title match.

Paul Heyman is not a 'genius' for picking up any one wrestler in the age of ECW. One amazing choice does not make you a genius. It is the fact that he CONSISTENTLY picked up people and made them huge despite all odds. Tazz and Sandman are prime examples. The hardcore dynasty, the announcement crew, the talent... Name any of it. They had talented, unhinged, sadomasochistic athletes willing to endure the pain and hardship to perform and elevate the craft to where it could have been.
THAT is genius. And it was all Paul's doing. He found the right people. He believed in them, trusted them, directed, cultured, cultivated and processed them into being who they were. How is that NOT genius? He had a vision for what the industry needed at the time, and the only way the Attitude Era happened was because he pushed the envelope and elevated it to an art form. If that isn't visionary, I don't know what is.

Had WCW not dropped the ball towards the end with both Austin and Foley, they would've never gotten the opportunity with ECW, and WWE would've never batted an eye. WCW shot themselves in the foot so many times.

Mike Awesome was their world champion and he didn't pay him anything so he left. Then Paul produced a contract with forged initials. He said he was a snake.
