I think an interview with Gavin Andresen and Lex would be good episode.
Gavin was a decent maintainer, but wasn't able to give the deep insights into bitcoin like Greg has been able to.

The most obvious sign is that Adam entered the Bitcoin scene 3 years later, claiming to be a noob, yet couldn't help bragging and illustrate that he had knowledge about the protocol design and Satoshi's coins that no one else seemed to have noticed. Add to that he became the CEO of Blockstream which really makes him the CEO of Bitcoin, while arriving so late to the community. That would never have happened if it wasn't because the people in the know know.
Oh good. So HE is the CEO of Bitcoin. I've been looking for that guy. I've got a bone to pick with him about bitcoin...

I doubt it's Adam Back. Blockstream is pushing for lightening network which was never part of bitcoin. Satoshi said himself Bitcoin can already scale much larger than the Visa network.
@Nathan Armour Bitcoin can scale by lifting the blocksize. People like Adam argue this will make Bitcoin 'centralised'. However Satoshi himself wrote "The current system where every user is a network node is not the intended configuration for large scale. That would be like every Usenet user runs their own NNTP server. The design supports letting users just be users. The more burden it is to run a node, the fewer nodes there will be. Those few nodes will be big server farms. The rest will be client nodes that only do transactions and don't generate."

@@douglasstone3813yeah people forget he could have just sent them to randomly generated addresses and deleted the private keys himself on purpose. That would be really easy. And he could have had some other machines running for his own personal consumption besides the original ones so can still have mined and kept plenty of BTC anyway.

Lex seemed taken aback in his assertions. I think because it didn't play into the mysticism of Satoshi's identity and just used deductive logic to narrow down the answer to the most obvious results. I feel like Satoshi's identity is one of those "no one knows" but "everyone who matters knows" situations. Similar to the question "Who killed Tupac?"

Actually Satoshi was of the belief that the block size needed to scale and believed hard forks would be necessary. That is until he handed the reigns over to Gavin Andresen and he literally tried to hijack the project where only him and Mike Hearns would have commit access.
This is when Adam decided to launch Blockstream after realizing that it would be impossible to gain consensus on block size. He thought the best way to resolve this was to move transactions off chain. We now have the lightning network and Satoshi is back in charge of Bitcoin.

I still think it was Hal Finney and possibly Nick Szabo and maybe a couple of others sharing the persona. Then once Finney died everyone kind of just let it go.

There are multiple “digital money” projects for years. That was kinda perpetual motion in physics. So no one truly believed that will work like that. That’s why nobody cares about taxes at the point of Bitcoin creation.
Adam definitely worked with Hal Finney and was a big fan of his work. Its why he made the 1st Bitcoin transaction to Hal. Adam was a specialist in distributed systems and invented Hascash which Bitcoin uses as part of the protocol. When he first joined the Bitcoin forums in 2013 he was literally bossing people around and talking about obscure mining bugs that were NEVER mentioned in the changelogs.
For someone who supposedly self proclaimed got into the Bitcoin game late and said he was a "Noob" had extensive knowledge of something he wasn't following too closely.
He also mentioned that Satoshi actually sent him an email on mining. Yet no email correspondence have ever been discovered between the 2. Yet we have emails with Satoshi ad EVERY other key player, from Half Finney, Mike Hear, Gavin Andrese, George Maxwell. Yet nothing between him and Adam.
Its as clear as day imo.

A key point that seems to be often overlooked is that Adam Back is the only Satoshi candidate with an advanced qualification in Economics
True he studied Economics a fair few years ago when much younger & his A level Economics is the step below a degree. But he is the only candidate with the cross disciplinary knowledge to see how cryptography could be applied in Economics.

@@xRetroWAVE I feel like people could get a better guess than that though. If we had sample code from Adam Back we could likely get some sort of similarity score. Not sure though. AI has certainly grown a lot in the 2 years since I wrote that comment, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it was doable with today’s technology.

There is a point I didn't understand completely: when he said he does not believe Has is Satoshi because the code was not good enough, does he mean that bitcoin's code was not good enough to be considered Hal's work? So, Hal's code would probably be better? Just some questions... I don't know Hal or Adam. 🙂
I mean it's hoskinsons opinion that it's not good. But there are different types of bad code, example, you can have a good overall architectural design but bad pieces of code or vice versa. Or it could be "bad" under current modern coding best practices but not objectively bad. But what I have found often, is that the best coders aren't really the best inventors and executors. It's rare to have both. Often clean code is written by people you will have never heard of. So it does fit the bill, that although Adam may have invented a game changing system, doesn't mean the code was clean and maintainable

No way satoshi would approve or even create SegWit. Adam Back is incentivized through blockstream to keep small blocks. Blockstream is compromised by banks and credit card companies. If Adam Back is Satoshi, he sold out.

I heard an argument from a youtuber named Barely Sociable who analyzed Satoshi's writing style and compared it to all the usual suspects involved with the project. Not only did Satoshi use British spelling of a certain words, he also used a double space at the start of sentences... Something only Adam Back did. That is your fingerprint.

There’s no way it was nick in my view. If you go back to his old comments on his blogs, he is discussing Bitcoin with people and they’re educating him on it. As well as he keeps pointing to bit gold where it may solve flaws in Bitcoin etc. he also asked people to help code up his vision of a similar thing to Bitcoin, but only just around the release of Bitcoin. Satoshi said himself he worked for a year and a half coding it before writing the white paper.

Satoshi Nakamoto was certainly not Adam Back. Satoshi wrote in American English, while Adam Back wrote in British English. There is a connection however, as Adam Back is the first hash expert whom Satoshi is known to have corresponded with. Satoshi learned from Adam. The creator of Hashcash, Adam Back is one of the inventors cryptocurrency technology.
