- Iran has unveiled its first-ever hypersonic missile, Fattah, which it says can penetrate missile defence systems and will give it a military edge.

Al-Muntaqim is an Iranian hypersonic air-launched long-range ballistic missile produced by IRGCAF in 2023.It is claimed to have a range of 2,000 km (1,200 mi) and Mach 15 speed.It can carry conventional warheads and can be launched by F14 interceptors.According to Iran, its high manoeuvrability and speed allows it to defeat all missile defence systems.The overall design of the missile is shared with the ground-launched Fattah missile, adapted for air launching with a modified guidance section for the Fattah. It can reportedly hit both static targets and mobile ones such as aircraft carriers.
The high speed of the missile give it better target penetration than lighter, slower cruise missiles
No hypersonic is that fast tho in the end stage, it has to slow down, then they could be intercepted like patriot did with kinzhal now.

It's unlikely the fact there's only one, the only proven SAM that is capable of destroying a hypersonic missile is the s500. Considering the s500's missile itself can travel at hypersonic speeds. Don't even bring up the pitiful patriot, it destroyed zero kinzhals but surprisingly poor and people with no brain believes they've successful destroyed a kinzhal.

Obviously, most of these Fattah-1 missiles penetrated the air defense/missile defense system, as can be seen in the video. Extra-atmospheric explosions were also observed, perhaps some were able to shoot down.

It seems like a 400sec flight time to Israel 🇮🇱 could be even shorter on a flatter trajectory, as opposed to one that needs to leave the atmosphere & then descend to the target. china and russia could be different, but the iranian version would do best gliding at blinding speeds and relatively low altitudes - typically 20 to 80 km, which is not detectable by ground or high altitude, else western allied satellites could detect, but then again, detecting has nothing to do with intercepting, but anyways
No true hypersonic cruise missile exists. aeroballistic and hypersonic glide vehicles exist. They do have some traits of hypersonic missiles. Kinzhal flies at a flat 50 km altitude which has a thin atmosphere then dives near the target to retain its speed through dense atmosphere.
True hypersonic cruise missile would need an air breathing SCRAMJET engine and maneuvering. flying hypersonic in the atmosphere means radars won't see. speed and maneuvering means not enough time to react as well as unpredictable path.
I think they have to slow down near target for electromagnetic devices to work.
@@agnelomascarenhas8990 i'm not sure if you're russian, or anti russian, and no disrespect, but iranian version works completely different. nosecone breathes the engine, using ins like arh. regardless of orbit position or speed, the active homing uses a radar as guidance signal. electronics in the missile keep the radar pointed directly at the target, missile then looks at this "angle" of its own centerline to guide itself. if detecting any objects, then the ins or arh would simply change the angle and readjust. iran chose the liquid quenchant injection for blackout mitigation but other methods could resolve the issue as well

INS - Inertial Navigation System. ARH - Active Radar Homing. the Navigation and Homing part are clear. Popular Mechanics says solid fuel motor, while spherical reaction chamber I think implies liquid fuel and oxidizer. This is still a ballistic missile.
Hypersonic cruise missile requires supersonic combustion as in a SCRAMJET. It would fly in the upper atmosphere breathing air and *power the missile continuously during cruise*. It can also maneuver throughout its flight. These are still in development.

You can't maneuver on mach 24 it will allow anti ballistic defense systems to calculate and predict impact point easily also the higher the speed the easier it will appear on the radar, imagine a f35 in a fixed state in mid air it will appear on infrared cameras but not on the radars until it moves some inches forward

I don't know much about missiles. I know the distance between two countries boarder is less than 1000 km. I think Iran western missile launch site (Mehran) is less than 1100 km from Tel Aviv. And there will be never a war between these two countries.
In addition to all of its other shenanigans, the naming convention of these weapons by the Islamic republic is also a source of embarrassment to most of us Iranians. They use these Arabic names that mostly have barely any presence in our language and are hated by modern secular young Iranians like me.

First of all, most Iranians, especially the youth these days don't care much about Islam, many are straight up abandoning it. The rest are very secular and just culturally Muslim. So the sacred status of Arabic doesn't matter that much to many.
Second of all, there's a difference between words that are of common use among people and obscure words that no one uses.
A religious Muslim in Iran may find the idea of naming a Tank Zolfaghar interesting as that is the name of Ali's legendary sword., but naming a missle Sejjil after a minor referce in Quran is intangible even to many of the religious people.
Finally, we don't get to choose our names, our parents do and as I said there's huge gap between our generations.
I've decided to make peace with my name since it's too late to change it, but I will choose a more Persian or Iranic name for my future children and I definitely think we should revive more of our pre-Arab invasion vocabulary. Even though a considerable Arabic influence on Persian is inevitable.
