  • Another food vlog but this time I show two recipes. Sinigang, a Filipino sour soup that you won't believe takes 30 minutes from fridge to table. Creamy Shrimp pasta that takes a bit more time but definitely worth trying!

When we have time, we usually stirfry the onions first in super little oil before we add the water and boil. It tastes better! Glad to see you eating Filipino food! Has been a subbie since you waxed Weylie’s pits 😂

You can elevate sinigang by adding taro. And a family secret is adding saba banana (those chubby, sweet and short plantain). It adds depth and flavor to the soup. Yum. Now, I’m craving for one.

Sinigang is a favorite at our house. Try adding taro to make the soup creamy, when the taro gets soft u can mash a few of it and mix it on the soup and try adding garlic it totally makes a difference too as well as the long green chillies too.. we call it siling haba in tagalog

  • @Sugarstarrs

I just had this for lunch today! I love love loveee beef sinigang. It’s very rich and comforting. I highly recommend you add Gabi - it’s taro but not the purple kind. It gives you a thick and rich soup. My mom cuts them into chunks and grate some for the soup to get thick. I love eating those and I mash it onto my rice. Super comforting! Also, I suggest you try using Mama Sita’s sinigang mix, I find Knorr to be more salty. Mama Sita’s lean more on the sour side. Lastly, please also try shrimp sinigang!! The shrimp makes the soup sweet and it’s very refreshing (for me atleast) :)
I hope you try more Filipino food 😊

Sinigang 😍 Next time try browning the onions and the tomatoes! We usually crush the tomatoes and then add the water to that same pot, seasoning, and then the meat of choice after so it soaks up more flavour ! 🤤

Hey brothers and sisters! and Wah! I'm not sure if anyone would find it helpful, but when I cook, I like to have everything ready as well and follow along the recipe. I followed along Wah's video and listed the whole recipe! Hope this helps, especially when you're going to grocery shop for the ingredients! :) If you see this Wah, love your videos and keep it up! Enjoy!
    Sinigang Recipe:
    - Okra
    - Ong Choy (separate leaves from stems)
    - Salmon
    - Green Beans
    - Tomatoes
    - Onions
    - Tamarind Soup Base (knorr if possible)
    - Fish sauce
    1. Boil tomatoes and onions for 5 mins
    2. Add salmon and cook for another 5 mins
    3. Add tamarind soup base
    4. Add okra and green beans and boil for another 5 mins
    5. Add Ong Choy stems and boil for a couple of mins
    6. Add a little patis/fish sauce to taste
    7. Add the Ong Choy leaves when it’s almost done (about a min)
    8. Enjoy!
    Creamy Shrimp Pasta Recipe:
    - Raw shrimp with heads (about 10)
    - 1 garlic bulb
    - Pepper
    - Onion Salt
    - Chili Flakes
    - Paprika
    - Oil
    - Sun dried tomatoes
    - Half and Half
    - Cream Cheese
    - Bow tie pasta
    - Basil Leaves
    - Parmesan (optional)
    1. Prepare the shrimp but trimming whiskers off, to avoid sauce from splattering everywhere.
    2. Remove heads from shrimp and set aside
    3. Peel and devein shrimp
    4. Peel garlic bulb and press garlic into bowl of shrimp
    5. Add Pepper, onion salt, chili flakes, and paprika
    6. Mix well to marinade and coat shrimp
    7. Add oil to pan and add shrimp. Lightly cook shrimp for about 2 mins, don’t overcook them. They’re going to cook more later
    8. Remove shrimp and set aside for later
    9. Add a little more oil and cook shrimp heads (the heads have the most flavor, which you want to extract)
    10. Set the heads aside for later
    11. Add more garlic and cook with sun dried tomatoes
    12. Add pasta water and half & half (no measurements. If sauce is too thick add more pasta water, if it’s too thin, add more half & half)
    13. Add shrimp heads back to sauce to extract even more flavor (optional)
    14. Discard the heads and drain the juices out (chopsticks help)
    15. Add cream cheese (if sauce becomes too thick, add more pasta water)
    16. Add bow tie pasta in and stir to evenly coat pasta
    17. Near the end, season it with your favorite herb seasoning (Wah used garlic & herb mix)
    18. Add the shrimp and cook for 1-2 mins
    19. Garnish with fresh basil leaves and Parmesan
    20. Enjoy!

Hi Wah!!! Try sinigang pork (pork belly or shoulder or butt would be perfect, spareribs is good too) or sinigang shrimp w/ milkfish or butterfish (together, or just plain shrimp/fish), and lastly, since you made sinigang salmon, next time try sinigang sa miso (it's also salmon but instead you'll use mustard leaves for your leafy veggies) :D
