If you dry them properly, preferable in low owen heat, the ibotenic acid breaks down to form more muscimol. It's actually the ibotenic acid and not muscarine that makes you feel sick when the fresh or raw mushroom is consumed. Muscarine is present i A muscaria only in microscopic trace amounts, and does actually NOT contribute to the effects of A muscaria in any significant way.
Although very similar in molecular structure, Ibotenic acid and muscimol acts on the nervous system in two completely different ways. Ibotenic acid is a neurotoxin that over stimulates the glutamine receptors, leading to unpleasant effects such as nausea, vomiting, muscle twitching and possibly a delirium like state with mood swings, unpleasant hallucinations and anxiety attacks.
Muscimol on the other hand is not neurotoxic and acts mostly on the GABA receptors (GABA B receptors) and have no effect on the glutamine receptors at all. The properly dried mushroom, which contains only muscimol and no ibotenic acid, produces a much more pleasant, sedative, intoxicating and mildly psychedelic effect.
There is a myth about the vikings eating A muscaria before battle to make them go berzerk. But there is no evidence of that ever have happened at all. It was only a theory from the swedish 1700's historian Samuel Ödman, who proposed it COULD have been so.
What is true however, is that A muscaria has been used in shamanistic purposes rather extensively for thousands of years in some areas of the world. Such as parts of asia and even among some native tribes in north america. And it has also been used as an recreational intoxicant, for example in siberia, parts of asia and eastern europe. Some speculate that that the mysterious soma that is decribed i some old texts from india, actually is A Muscaria.
+Raggedy Hobo it is also the story of santa and presents. the suomi reindeer herders have a shaman who, like David said, dries them out. then in winter he climbs out of their tent dressed in red and white and collects the bag. climbs back down and hands them out. it's dangerous to piss when reindeer are about because they like to drink the drugged urine. it's filtered through the body. some cultures the shaman will eat the mushroom and everyone would drink his piss. supposed to be lovely lol
these mushrooms have a different experience to other magic mushrooms. each person has their own level of trip. I used to find these in England and I'd make a gravy and throw them in. I never thought I was tripping. I gave them to a guy and he went off his head. I'd eaten one bigger than the biggest on this show. no effect. once the mushroom is heated to 170 fh all the poison is rendered trippy. not as enjoyable as fairy caps.
According to Allegro this is the Jesus mushroom. Can you fry it and eat it that way?
Daniel Malmlöf Regardless of what you wrote I think it is pretty obvious common sense that it's best not to try eating them for any hallucinatory experience. Some people could have the knowledge of chemistry and biology and could hypothetically get a "safe" hallucinatory trip. But to be safe, just don't eat it and find some safer drug.
Daniel Malmlöf it's actually the foundation for christianity
Yeah, vikings most likely didn't use it in battle, but more likely used them when celebrating after a raid and such.
I guess I will never understand why someone would give a thumb down for a video like this. It’s free, it’s highly informative, it’s short, it’s perfect. Anyway, thanks for the brilliant work. I saw a few of those beautiful red creatures a couple of days ago walking near Leith Tower. Amazing things.
Its probably because of the patronising atiitude he adopts when talking about the widespread use of them amongst indigenous shamans and animists. British fairy tales (amongst many other cultures) have a wealth of knowledge with regard to the lore that was passed down from our ancestors. Fairy tales are not childrens stories but contain ancient lore couched in day to day stories. They had to be because of the murderous incursion of Abrahamism into Native European cultures.
Because there are lots & lots of stupid delusional people on this planet. Sadly.
@@eastanglian3778 do I detect a fellow tribe member? 👋🏻 👋🏻 beautifully said.
Weren’t they hopping? Seeing as they’ve only got one leg under that skirt!!! just joking m8
Peace out from the police state of north 🏴
We live in a society
Whenever I find these, I look around and I nearly always find Boletus edulis within a dozen yards of them. I think they must just enjoy exactly the same habitats as one another.
same here the king bolete?
I've noticed that as well, in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California. Boletus alongside the Amanita, at about 9000 ft. el. Rather convenient I'd say, a meal next to a high. Ah... Mother Nature, gotta love her. She will provide! Jus' sayin'...
It's the pine (or any conniferous tree). Especially in chalky lime areas. Ceps tend to hate alkaline soil. But pines where they grow shed needles and over time help convert the soil acidic (so iv been lead to believe) its why youll only tend to find ceps in chalk areas amoung pine. Fly agaric may just love the same soil conditions as the rare few times in come across them its been under pine in chalky areas. Annoyingly not found any ceps to date lol
On a fungal foray walk / talk I went on recently, in woodland around the north west UK - the guide told us that shrooms as very very picky about habitat. In fact many will be found growing by certain trees in a certain small area of the UK only! He also said that the UK has around 14,000 varieties but globally its actually unknown just how many there are.
They love pine trees as well
I completely agree. I laugh every time I see them in Christmas displays because it’s obviously the root of the flying reindeer myth. Reindeer just lay on their sides and kick like they are flying through the air. Hallucinogenic Mushrooms have been a vital part of the human story from the Parliament of Greece to the burning bush.
The burning bush was an Acacia tree
@@edgarloike Yeah, and Moses was tripping hard. The idea our ancient ancestors didn’t take hallucinogenic plants/mushrooms etc.. ALL the time is beyond me. The proof is everywhere around us.
I’ve never seen mushrooms as part of a Christmas display. I’m confused.
Where have you seen them please?
I wouldn't advise taking them
@@mavis3916 yeah me either I heard you can get super sick. I stick to Liberty caps every couple of years.
Most beautiful mushrooms I have seen, they look gorgeous in the green moss 🙂
“All mushrooms are edible; but some only once.”~Croatian proverb
😂😂😂
i chewed several destroying angels without swallowing them cuz amanitine the toxin wich gives you the most painfull death ever and leaves your corpse without any rigor mortis in the course of 3 days needs to be absorbed through the intestine, does not absorb through the thin barriers of your mouth. destroying angel also contains muscarine or ibutenic acid but dont try this at home im like u know that one crazy berzerker viking who refuses to die or surrender

Yes, but I’ve also had some AMAZING nights on these mushrooms aswell, though I do prefer the Psylosibin varieties, to be fair.
Thank you to the person posting the video and to all the comments too. Useful information.
I can't believe that there are parts of the woods where they just chill out in huge groups like that!
in whales uk I saw thousand ands that no joke. I was gob smacked at how many there was
@@matthewtoomer2181 I've seen the same in the mountains in New Mexico, mixed with thousands of porcini and chantrelle and hawkswings and dozens of others. We were just walking on mushrooms for a quarter of a mile in any direction because it was that dense. I don't expect to see that ever again.
so beautiful what a lovely find!
Just take a half of gram. That’s enough to make for a good day and still function perfect without tripping. You feel amazing. That’s my experience
Moderate micro-dosing, as a medicine for the mind. :)
The vikings drank the milk from the flyagarick. I learned how to process them. Once filtered and cosumed it gives you the sense of great strength.
Psylocybins are really nice and mellow.
Sounds cool. Care to share?
No psylocybins in this particular mushrooms
@@ruicardoso4389 Correct, that's why they are not illegal. Uk that is, I don't know about other countries.
I have been stronger since taking them for two weeks straight. You may be on to something.

Wow, I always thought it is poisonous, till. A few weeks ago. What a beautiful mushroom.

Amanita?! Your should feel very special, this mushroom is sacred, and not so much in a psychedelic sense. Every civilization who has seen this mushroom has depicted it in positive art. It is a god, to some.
Hope you aren't poisonous, hun. 😂
@@imagineaworld the "psychedelic sense" has a lot to do with it's reputation
You are beautiful, visionary but if underestimated deadly
These are a useful indicator because the area is also good for boletus to grow.
Oh my those are beautiful
Picked about 30 in September and have been dried and awaiting the right time to enjoy.
How did you dry them??
If you cook them it reduces the amount of poison and increases the psychoactive properties. Two or three can be safely eaten. I've had them raw. First came a kind of madness, then sickness, then it was WONDERFUL. I would recommend these mushrooms!
How long did ur sickness last, I live here in Tennessee and u can find them ......but it's rare. Any who....and friend brought me some liquid that had been made while they were fresh, I just simply put it on some heat....for about 4 min.....made some tea. Now I don't recommend this, but awesome buzz with some Jager..... putting them on a little heat depletes the stuff that causes sickness.
Just an hour or two I think. The sickness was a good part of it, as it was AMAZING to recover from it and just feel normal again, but then after that delight the further delight started...
Raggedy Hobo where dou you live ,
Raggedy Hobo ??
Another great video - thanks! :)
love your videos :) thank you
It's eaten in some parts of eastern Europe. Ibotenic acid, muscimol and muscarine are water soluble compounds. All you need to do is to boil it and then discard the water.
And take all the good stuff out? No thank you.
@@keithmurf426 the good stuff is not water soluble so it stays on the mushroom, after discarting the water you can cook them in butter and eat them
That is so cool. How would you convert the ibotenic acid to muscimol once it's boiled into the water?
Only eat them if you want too be triping ahah 🤣
@@seonaghjedlicka3570No you won’t be tripping. People used to regularly parboil them and then fry them in the Pacific Northwest with no problems.
I have these growing like giants all over where i live. Its quite cool seeing just how massive they can get.
Want to sell any lol
Wow great information mate
Such a striking mushroom 🍄
Almost correct on the chemical advice. Ibotenic acid is the neurotoxin in question and can be almost completely transformed into muscimol through drying. As with most foragers, this gentleman has a layman's knowledge of the spiritual properties of this fungus. The folklore is rich and varied and this also happens to be one of the most common fruits of the amanita family.
Great video. I’d definitely recommend Liberty Caps if you’re in the UK and looking for the brain enhancing effects without nausea. They are found on the grassy mountains of Wales from mid September to late October. Happy foraging :)
Also the fact that Fly Agarics are very uncommon for a reason. Its not psycadellic in nearly the same way, If at all in allot of cases
Got thousands the last few weeks
@@sitokiaba5404 its not psychedelic at all. Its a deleriant. You'll be hallucinating, but not in the same way.
Only Wales? Me and a friend are deciding between the Brecon Beacons and the Peak District to go and forage for some in a couple weeks. Both locations have similar environments but we need to decide on one place as it'll be a trek for us either way. I know it's late in the season but we wanted to try before setting up any monotubs or anything.
@@ezzo222 They are found everywhere from Lands End to the Northest points of Scotland. Not to mention the variouse countries across europe that have them.
awesome presentation
Great video. Ty for sharing
That was soo interesting. Thank you. (I've often seen these in Epping forest.. Edge of London)
I ate a load of these in September. They're harmless if cooked properly, fried in butter they're awesome. Boil them for 20 minutes, drain the water, boil for another 5, fry in butter until a crispy brown. By this time theyre not ohycadelic or poisonous.
Did it have any hallucenagenic effect?
@@chrisgomez3078 Not once you cook it like I did. If you want that effect youre best to dry them. Even then you'll not negate the poisonous effect that much but it'll make it a bit safer.
@@chrisgomez3078 Also, they're more sedative rather than trippy like liberty caps or golden teachers.

Temp too low check out amanita dreamer 60 to 70 C will convert more ibotenic acid. Then boil for 40 minuts. Drink that careful as one could be as strong as five trips or not😊

Thank you very much for sharing this video , such a nice group in there 👏👏👍..
I ’ve ate some cooked a few times with no side effects ( boiled twice in salty water for about 5 minutes and then fried for 5-6 min ) .
Don’t find them too often in our area ( Essex ) but looking forward to find some more this soon .
There’s resources out there about how to process them to become edible for anyone interested , obviously care is needed but it’s a very interesting mushroom and easy to identify .
Recently subscribed as I'm lost with anything other than the common field mushroom & I love mushrooms so much. Not many down here in Gloucestershire it seems😏

I’m in Alabama, USA and I have some in my dehydrator right now . Because of the pandemic happening and I haven’t worked all year. We’ve had a prolific Amanita Muscaria season this year with the high humidity and all. I got 20 dried quarts put up. I don’t know why , heck it’s something to do ya know. To walk ,to hike, to scavenge and forage and hunt. I feel like the old witchy woman in a southern gothic novel. I tried the tea a few times. I’m a fan of the muscamole, but not so much the ibotenic acid. I recommend boiling 20 mins. And lots of research. It’s not Psilocybin. But it’s something else alright.
good way to ruin them!
i wanna eat it and get big
Make sure you dry it out first Luigi
these are the ones that make you small... keep looking
Lol
I'm decarbing 5 kg of them right now. Wonderful mushrooms. If you are interested in having a more non-school-propaganda understanding about them I suggest you look for another channel. This guy has probably not eaten a lot of this blessed gift of nature. I've been eating them for three years now. But be careful to prepare them properly. Start at low doses of 3-5 grams. Don't eat too often. You don't have to, because the medicinal, calming effect stays in the body for a few days.
@@Norell88 correct. Its hard to find good information on the Web. Happy hunting!
interesting stuff. Thankyou
Great vid 👍
Depends on how it is prepared. This mushroom is eaten in parts of the world after parboiling it and changing the water several times. They have also been pickled. As well as they are used in shamanic rituals. There have been no recorded deaths from this one.
The way to use it as a poison is to place it in milk.
Thank you for displaying the true A. Muscaria. Many people mistake the lesser amanita for such.
I love these. I usually prefer these over alcohol.
The amanita WITHOUT SKIRT is the edible variety.
Avoid yellowing, as there is a yellow deadly variety that is a cousin of Pantherina
I've prepared and drank them, very cool experience.
Don't believe ya,
Great story with the reindeer tripping on mushrooms.
If you boil them for roughly 20 mins empty the water and boil them a 2nd time you will boil the toxens out of the mushroom making them edible.
exactly
he said there not edible for a reason but obviously they get used for other reasons! Why would u want to eat a amanita species anyway?when theres much tastier and safer varieties to be had, i dont understand the logic behind eating any of the amanita species!!
John Galbraith Same reason people eat pufferfish in Japan - because they can lol
lies you can be poison by these it make you taller like when mario touch the shroom..........
wahoo
what.....just edible ☹️
That mushroom isn't deadly.
they look cool
That's brilliant
I sometimes find these in a pine forest thats pretty close to me. I only ever find 1 or 2, i assume people are finding them first and picking them. I would love to see a full cluster or a fairy ring.
You're lucky to find those. You should absolutely take them home. My antidepressant/ anti anxiety medication. One half dose of them 1.5-2g (half the medical clinical dose of 4grams), is more effective for me than months of more dangerous pharmaceuticals.
How do you prepare them. Tea or you just eat it dry? Thank you ❤️
Amazing
Very interesting
What a lovely grop. I used to pick these and i discovered that when picking them and slucing them up to dry them out you start to feel strange as they literally go through the pores of the skin. Boil em up and make a cuppa out of them.
Nobody does that, bad advice
All the nasty toxins are water soluble so drinking the tea you are just concentrating them....great advice!
Of course you can make a tea. With lemon. People get your facts straight and do some research

Thanks for watching!
I remember going on walks with an aunt as a small child and seeing these, she told us never to touch them as they were fairy houses. I expect it was her way of teaching us not to touch them or she had tried them herself.🤣😂
So beautififul. Did not know it exist, thought it was just from paints interpretation.
Oh my, we wouldn’t want to hallucinate would we? 😉 They are beautiful. Exquisite.
Forget Rudolph - Terrence McKenna suggested that perhaps Santa Claus IS this particular mushroom 🍄 its red and white and consuming it gives you a face-to-face with the Machine Elves who make crazy inter-dimensional toys out of language....
The levels of muscarine found in A. muscaria are considered to be pharmacologically insignificant, the unpleasant effects from incorrect preparation are mostly from the ibotenic acid, which can be safely removed or converted to muscimol which is easier on the GI tract. Just for reference, the potentially deadly Fool’s Funnel contains up to around 1.6% muscarine by fresh weight, whereas the Fly Agaric contains only about 0.0003%.
These are such beautiful fungi!! The Panther Cap aminitas are crazy strong much more so than these but these can be very profound when in a dream state. Jonah and the whale story cone from these beautiful creatures.
legal, ótimo vídeo
They should become common ornamental garden mushrooms . Why do we only grow flowers
Christine Krol true!
You would need very specific substrate and conditions for these, but I do think a garden is not a healthy garden unless you have some mushrooms, be they saprophytic, parasitic, symbiotic (like the Fly Agaric) or free living fungi. I have collected spores from a lot of nice looking mushrooms and introduced them to my garden, if only one species takes hold I will be immensely satisfied.
