Excellent review. Not only are you very honest (and I totally agree) about the useless Vivo and Rio, but that the Baleno is probably a better buy. What sways it for me is the cruise control included in the BASE model! I also appreciate that you are one of the few reviewers to include the monthly installment (NO deposit and NO balloon payment) PLUS you tell us how much insurance and petrol would cost to run such a car. That's real world reviewing - very rare.

This might be a little off topic, but it's from my group on investing - how people will buy a Golf GTI but neglect to think about other costs, especially insurance! ua-cam.com/video/IqzMeyZ9Kuo/v-deo.html

Vw as a whole is being overlooked by buyers, Suzuki swift out sold the polo vivo & tsi in May.

VW is under pressure now, they should make more standard features and basic vivo should be 200k because it is locally built

I think Toyota did itself a favor by partnering with Suzuki to build their small cars.

I just got back from looking at the Baleno for the first time, and if I had to choose between the two I would pick the Baleno. They had the base model GL there and it is a few hundred rand cheaper than the base starlet, but it comes with quite a few more base features like cruise control, reverse camera and fog lights as standard, which only come on the top of the range Starlet XR besides the fog lamps which come on the XS of the starlet. Just seems like a better value considering you would have to spend R300k for some features that are already on the base model of the Baleno. I do prefer the look of the Starlet in the front though.

    • @jootus7799
      @jootus7799 2 роки тому +4

the baleno GLX even offers a 360 view camera and heads-up display for under 300k

    • @bwamo2430
      @bwamo2430 2 роки тому +2

@@jootus7799 I ended up seeing the starlet today as well and assumed that the XR Starlet had the same 360 degree camera and heads up display too, but was very shocked when I found out only the Baleno has it, especially for R20k less on the top end

    • @GerhardBritz
      @GerhardBritz 2 роки тому

Agree, the Baleno is the better buy, however here in Durban the Suzuki dealer pale in comparison with the Toyota dealers, that and the Starlet looks better. Such a pitty though, I would've prefered the Baleno rather.

The numbers are merely just an estimate. At the end of the day every individual will structure their finance deal to their preference. Adjusting the loan term and interest rate will not make the calculations any accurate, hence you should just take the numbers as a guide.

When comparing the Toyota Starlet XS and Suzuki Baleno GL, both hatchbacks offer similar features and are considered good value for money in the subcompact car segment. However, there are key differences in performance, features, and overall value.
    ### 1. **Engine and Performance**:
    - **Toyota Starlet XS**:
    - Engine: 1.4L 4-cylinder engine.
    - Power: Around 68 kW (91 hp) and 130 Nm of torque.
    - Fuel consumption: Approx. 5.1 - 5.4 L/100 km.
    - Performance: Known for reliable and smooth handling with decent acceleration for city driving.
    - **Suzuki Baleno GL**:
    - Engine: 1.4L 4-cylinder engine.
    - Power: 68 kW (91 hp) and 130 Nm of torque (same as the Starlet).
    - Fuel consumption: Approx. 5.1 - 5.4 L/100 km.
    - Performance: Very similar to the Toyota Starlet, with a slightly lighter chassis, making it a bit more nimble and efficient.
**Verdict**: Both cars offer very similar performance in terms of power, torque, and fuel efficiency. However, the Suzuki Baleno’s lighter weight might give it a slight edge in terms of agility.
    ### 2. **Interior and Comfort**:
    - **Toyota Starlet XS**:
    - Build quality is good, with durable materials.
    - Features: 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, reverse camera, and decent infotainment system.
    - Cabin: Comfortable, with a user-friendly design. The rear seat offers reasonable legroom.
    - **Suzuki Baleno GL**:
    - Slightly more spacious than the Starlet, especially in the rear.
    - Features: 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, reverse camera, and keyless entry (depending on the market).
    - The cabin offers good visibility, and overall design feels slightly more premium than the Starlet.
**Verdict**: The Baleno edges out the Starlet in terms of interior space, particularly in rear-seat legroom, and has slightly more premium materials and features.
    ### 3. **Practicality and Space**:
    - **Toyota Starlet XS**:
    - Boot space: Around 345 liters, which is decent for a hatchback.
    - Rear seat comfort is good but slightly more cramped compared to the Baleno.
    - **Suzuki Baleno GL**:
    - Boot space: Around 355 liters, making it slightly larger than the Starlet.
    - The rear seat is more spacious, offering better comfort for passengers.
**Verdict**: The Baleno is a bit more practical due to its larger boot space and better rear seat legroom.
    ### 4. **Safety Features**:
    - **Toyota Starlet XS**:
    - Comes with standard safety features like ABS, EBD, multiple airbags, and electronic stability control.
    - **Suzuki Baleno GL**:
    - Similar safety features: ABS, EBD, airbags, and stability control. Depending on the market, some advanced safety features may be available.
**Verdict**: Both cars are on par when it comes to safety features.
    ### 5. **Pricing and Value for Money**:
    - **Toyota Starlet XS**:
    - Toyota has a reputation for reliability and strong resale value. The Starlet comes at a slightly higher price compared to the Baleno.
    - **Suzuki Baleno GL**:
    - The Baleno is generally more affordable than the Starlet, offering better value for money in terms of features and space.
**Verdict**: The Baleno provides slightly better value for money, as it’s typically more affordable while offering similar features and slightly better practicality.
    ### Final Verdict:
    - **Toyota Starlet XS**: If you prioritize brand reliability, slightly better build quality, and resale value, the Starlet is a great option.
    - **Suzuki Baleno GL**: If you’re looking for a bit more space, better practicality, and a more affordable option, the Baleno might be the better choice.
Both cars are excellent choices in the subcompact segment, but the **Suzuki Baleno GL** offers slightly better value in terms of price and interior space.
    I hope this will help😊

138 N.m in S.A context = the Baleno (Cassper Nyovest) can try and wrestle the Starlet (Naak Music) but the Starlet has more muscle.
77kw in S.A context = with the Baleno you're more likely to deliver Debonairs with a black badge whereas with the Starlet you 're safe, red badge easy.

The car is ok but idnt like mag rims t they are looking the same as Yaris if the could also drop the car at the back a bit and put fat mags, in the interior if they can redesign a raised centerconsole to make it look bold and modenized the handbrake is old fashioned they should put the automatic one and try to raise the console

Thanks for your video, was very good you just had some facts wrong with your top speed the top speed on the auto box is 160km/h but with the manual is 175km/h and remember your resale value is better on your Toyota then on the Suzuki's
