  • Since I was curious how the 3rd party NP-FW50 batteries compete against the much more expensive one from Sony, I ran a little comparison test. Hope this provides some insight. Constructive comments and feedback are very welcome!

Good test, would be nice if we can find out the difference in lifespans (recharge cycle.e.g after 500 charge cycles) of the different brands of batteries too, I think a lot of people want to know.
Original manufacturer claim their product has the longest lifespan, there is only one way to find out.

Great job on the test im totally convinced! Only thing i have noticed is that the camera of the winner looks like it has got alot less light in the room and maybe this will affect the test.
Thanks for showing us the test it was very helpfull!

This test was done on new batteries, to really show reliability you should redo the test after 1 year and again a year later.....My 3rd party batteries were great for the first 2 years and are now shit. Original Sony still going strong.

Well you could just buy new batteries every year due to their cheap price
But with cheap chinese pricing comes unreliability
Don't want some li-po battery exploding inside my camera
I'll definately just stick with OG sony

Tele Guy.....Your observation regarding long term reliability dosen't just pertain to camera batteries. My experience has been OEM batteries generally tend to offer better long term reliability than 3rd party batteries no matter what device the battery is for (cameras, tools, laptops, etc.

I have only experience with the 'Batmax' brand and will avoid it from now on. It came preloaded up to around 10% so I fully loaded it right away but then wanted to start using it after 2 days and the power had allready dropped to 70%... After the camera had drained it to about 10% I loaded it up to 100% again, stored it for again for about 2 days and it had lost around 30% again. So lesson learned here.

I've seen some comments not long ago, that fake batteries or some others, dont communicate properly with the camera, thats why they show the sign before and keep running.

You can repay the tests and make an average result.

The difference between all batteries is negligible, however the price make the difference
