Man, you provide the absolute best tutorial videos complete straight talking right to the point, very clear easy to follow and understand , informative well spoken mentioning the exact keys and buttons to press, you have got yourself another subscriber in me 👍🏻
For those of you trying to this while RetroPie runs inside of raspbian, navigate to your home directory and use ls -a to show all files and use sudo nano to open your .bashrc file. Then simply add the line sudo bash -c (whatever he has in the video I’m lazy) to the end of your bashrc file. Save exit reboot and follow his steps. Worked for me on the pi4 2020
Great video once again. Finally decided to set up my Xbox One controller for RetoPie. I followed your steps with zero issues. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with the community!
I would give you 10 thumbs up if I could, I got so frustrated with getting errors when trying to connect the controller, but with your tutorial it finally worked, thank you so much!
Thanks. Worked for me. Had to quit emulation station since my wireless keyboard doesnt have f4, but I managed.
Also, you saying the text out helped me with deciphering if it was a space or just how the character was lol
Thanks for the video. I watched the other guys video and couldn't make it work, got it going first time with your video. The way you read out the command lines and tell where to put the spaces is very helpful making it easier to interpret and follow. Thank you
Thanks for tutorial. Followed it step by step and controller works perfectly (updated Xbox controller 1708 + rpi4 + retropie 4.7.7).
Thanx a lot works good. Disconnects when I launch a game but just gotta turn off and back on quick and works for every game so far
Thank you so much!! I was at my wits end with this and I finally got it
Worked like a charm, thank you!
this worked like a charm to get stadia controller to work with retro pie via bluetooth. thanks for posting!
Amazing. Thank you very much, I followed this tutorial to the letter and updated my xbox controller and everything worked perfectly.
I love this guy! Your the best ETA Prime.
I had my controller talking to retropie but it was acting funny and wouldn't respond in games til a couple minutes after launching. Couldn't navigate retroarch menus either. Your vid finally tipped me off that I configured the triggers incorrectly. The controller is working perfectly now, deeply appreciate it.
Sweet! Thank you! This thing truly is the Jack of all trades!
Thanks for this. I was getting a weird error after I connect my XBox controller through bluetooth the first time around but adding that extra command has fixed it.
Thank so very much. Greatly appreciated and the only thing that worked for me. Cheers
I'm having an issue whenever I try to connect my Xbox controller it keeps saying "operation not available" even after I tried what you did in this video.
I love you so much. I thought I’d have to buy a new controller or something. Thanks a lot 😢❤❤❤❤
It works. Thank you very much.
Great info - subscribed!
it worked for me. updated my controller on windows 10 first. thanks. how to do this on ssh?
Worked grea for me Aug 2020 Thanks
Great video. Keep up the good work
Really helpful, thanks!
Hi ETA PRIME! First of all, I am a huge fan of your videos. Big shout out and thank you goes out to you for making clear, easy to follow instruction videos for so many different cool things. Really, really appreciate your work! I am wondering if this same setup works for the newer XBOX controllers. I have a Series X controller (Model 1914) and I am running into issues with it. I'd really appreciate your guidance with this.
Can not get this to work on the pi 4.
Any solutions?
Does it work on pi 4?
Will disabling the ERTM have any effect on other Bluetooth controllers that I'm already using, such as 8bitdo controllers?
These steps finally got my xbox one controller to synch. I'll test tomorrow to see how it does.
Is there any way to get to the configuration without already having set up another controller? I'm stuck at the "Welcome" screen that does not automatically detect the Xbox One controller. F4 is really my only option. I also tried to just configure my keyboard to be a controller but that was a fail as it refused to "OK" when I was done.
What do you do if you controller will not stay configured. As soon as i go into a gave it no longer works
Awesome, will give it a go
ive followed your video, it shows that the controller is connected ... and yet when i go to change input i get no controllers detected.
Regards Etaprime, Am doing everything of this video, finally my xbox one controller working but am turn of the arcade and try again use the control and say have a error and my retropi 3b not recognise the xbox control, what doing now?
thanks, worked for me
It keeps saying "operation not available" everytime I try to connect it. Help!
I have the same situation, do u fix it?
@@luisrmelendez6461 me too
Me too. Anyone find a fix?
Did you also write it in the first line, otherwise it won't work either
Has anyone fixed this?
Brilliant! You are the man!
GREAT VIDEO! Sadly it did not work for me. It is as though the controller "trys" to link but then shuts off and locks up my Pie, forcing me to reboot from the keyboard. Any ideas would be warmly appreciated.
Any difference in performance of this controller vs the Xbox 360 controller? I'm just curious. On a RetroPie I can't imagine there would be. I just built my first RetroPie and I had an Xbox 360 sitting in the closet, so I'm using the controllers for my RP since they were free and so far they work great.
To identify bluetooth controler. Remove battery cover. At the top you should see the model # 1708
I currently use wireless Xbox 360 controllers with the Xbox 360 Wireless adapter and have 4 of them connected. How many Xbox One controllers can be connected at the same time over bluetooth? Have you had any lag or missed input using bluetooth?
for me, my controller connects but when i go back to the retropie welcome screen it says no gamepads detected
So I followed the steps exactly how you put it and it all seems to be working fine when I'm in the main menu but when i go into a game none of my controls work even my USB arcade buttons stopped working. Any way to fix this?
Love your channel
Any way of updating video to include connecting to a Raspberry Pi 4b with Retropie installed? Cant get my xbox one x to connect.

For those of you that are having trouble, type sudo su as soon as you get to the terminal, and then follow the rest of the instructions in the video. I don't know why, but that's what worked for me.
Should I use the xbox wireless adapter in the retropie or not? Thanks for the video!!! Best Regards from Brazil!
The method in the video is for the new Xbox wireless controller that doesn't use a dongle.
Worked perfectly for me, first try🤷🏻♂️
Does this work for more than one wireless controller or do you need to use a dongle for more than one wireless controller?
Anyone which uses international keyboard, watchout for the single quotes on the "echo 1" command, it happened to me. Once you have the right keyboard layout the text between quotes should turn yellow.
Can this be done on Raspbian Jessie? The "sudo apt-get install xboxdrv" doesnot work for me.
Thanks
Hello ETA I just purchased Xbox one s controller today and I am following your steps but when I do the registering part it keep saying searching and nothing happened for long time unless I manually restart the pie. can you help me figure it out I followed your other videos for installing retro pie. please help me and thank you for your time.
the problem i have with the controller is that it works with retropies menus but i try to use it with retroarch and it doesnt work... i looked for the config file and the file wasnt there... does anyone have a screen shot of what the config should look like?
It worked!
I was connecting it with the terminal,
Becouse retropie was not set up.
Now i can set it up becouse my controller is now paired!
Anyone besides me having problems with Emulation station refusing to register moving the Right Stick to the left an it doesn't register but it registers moving it to the right without problems?
I got the same thing. 🤷🏼♂️
Same here. Any fix?
Thank you!!!!
Thanks man
Can you sync 2 joystick and 2 x box controller? Total 4 players?
what exactly do the lines you input do? Do I need to do that for a premade retropie image?
Doesn't work for me, the last line of commandbox says: "Operation currently not available" :( I've the right Xbox One 1708 Controller

so folks, double or triple check your autostart.sh:
every f###ing char counts.
sudo bash -c 'echo 1 > /sys/module/bluetooth/parameters/disable_ertm'
@@itsmeprndI had etrm instead of ertm. I checked it so many times before saving the first time thinking I had misspelled one of the words 😂😂
Worked a little better this time round 😉
@@itsmeprnd how do you check?
Anyone else not have a raspberry pi but just like watching these videos?
No :)
No, Because i have one...
ETA Prime I am having a hard time with my ps4 controller. It connects successfully when I go to the blue tooth setting . When I go to enter the input for the controller , it recognizes the controller but when I press any button to map the controller it does not let me map it. Any idea.
I'm able to connect to the controller via Bluetooth but when I go to map the buttons it does not recognize its connected. Any thoughts? It's done this on two different controllers with fresh batteries.
I'm having this same problem. We're you able to find a workaround?
Same here
You are a godsend.
Are there spaces between "sudo nano" in that first line of coding or does it just look that way? I'm confused.
Yes space, sudo is just a Linux program. Need a space after the command to tell it what you want it to Switch User and Do. I'm sure 9m is too late for you, but anyone else....
thank u worked on pi 4
Does anyone know if Xbox One TE2 Fighticks (XB1 Killer Instinct Fightsticks) will work on retropie?
Do you need to follow this if you are doing retropie beta, 4
I did this exactly how it’s supposed to be done but when I reboot, it keeps me on the command screen. Can’t F4 or type exit. Really don’t want to have to reformat my disk and rewrite the file. Any help would be nice
i messed up the code and it wont let me go back into emulation station so i cant play any games regardless of the controller. Do you know how to edit the code you have already written can you please respond i need some help.
Thank you so much for all the helpful vids you put up! They help so much. I am having one problem that I hope you can help me with, I was in the process of setting up my xbox controller thru your video and when I sent the command sudo reboot- my raspberry pi did reboot but then stays on the terminal screen with pi@retropie(in green) and $(un purple) at the lower left part of the screen so it will not allow me to even see the format. I DID NOTICE THAT ON FILE FAILED ON START UP THAT SAYS "FAILED TO MOUNT USB"? PLEASE HELP!!
LOL
@@compunerd why?
I followed the directions. I’m running a pi3. I get a bunch of messages at the bottom of my screen after the final step. Any suggestions.
Yeah mine sadly didn't work I'm on a orange pi pc and it does have retropi but I also have the message "no file or directory" but ty for the video so I could at least try
Will this work with multiple controllers?
plz help i have my xbox controller connected and working on the retropie home screen but whenever i load into a game it doesn’t work at plz help
operation currently not available?
check you autostart.sh - every single space or char counts!
sudo bash -c 'echo 1 > /sys/module/bluetooth/parameters/disable_ertm'
up until now your videos have been very helpful, however, although my controller is synced, i cant get any input to the pi. controller light is solid, pi says its connected, but no gamepads detected
redid the same steps and it worked fine lol
now left on right analog stick refuses to config but idk if i will need it
can you connect the xbox wireless adapter usb to it and connect it to that?
Does connecting more than 1 controller work?
Will I still be able to use this with my Xbox One? Guessing I may have to unplug the Xbox one so it doesnt turn on and connect when I turn on the controller?
Yes, just make sure that your RetroPie isn't running.
This works but it doesn’t not save after turning off and on. How to you make it save?
However I could not get it to persist using the suggested method i.e. adding it to /opt/retropie/configs/all/autostart.sh directly before the 'emulationstation #auto' line, so I would have to log in with puTTY and run the command manually every single time I wanted to use the Xbox controller! (super annoying).
So, happily I finally found another way to disable ertm for bluetooth.
Create a new file using nano...
sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/bluetooth.conf
Add a single line to the new file...
options bluetooth disable_ertm=Y
Exit nano, saving the file in the process.
This made my controller stay connected
I can 100% confirm this works. Thanks!!
Dude!!!! Thanks a lot…
Thank you Sir this worked your'e a legend! :D
Worked perfectly, thanks!
when my pie reboots it just shows the welcome screen and makes me configure the keyboard, then it never lets me finish configuring it... so i cant select it after the fact. why is it having issues configuring the keyboard?
No word about installing xboxdrv ? Is it something that used to be installed by default but isn't anymore ?
I don't get it. It worked on the same raspberry pi 4 for 2 images. Now it won't connect on the 512GB Virutalman. Any Ideas?
i just posted comment about this but i see you are running same build i am so i will reply to your comment to. hope this helps this is the link that helped me.

How long does it take to reboot your raspberry pi
What do I do if I only have a keyboard and a bluetooth controller?
Mine simply hangs at the displayyesno screen after selecting option 1 - I have to reset the pi and then try again, vicious frustrating cycle. Any ideas?
I did exactly what you mentioned in your video. The connection fails due to a bluez error
Thanks
Will it reconnect immediately after reboot
this worked! many thanks!
how did you make it work? ive tried it plenty of times and i still get the same phyton error.
@@mirellaherrera1208 well I did exactly as he said to do :)
Does it work after turning off your pie?
every time i try i just get a bunch of text at the bottom of the screen, i tried replacing the batteries and the same thing, any ideas?
in my case the hotkey is not recognized. Any solution?
My controller shows up in the connected devices, but after I choose option 1, I don’t get a window saying my controller was successfully connected
well should be more easy using ssh on windows or linux to change the retropie settings
It does work
Video ql weno, funciona :3
did everything, does not work. It worked for like 5 minutes then i rebooted the pie and it stoped and i cant seem to get it to work again.
