In Texas you have the Painted Churches Tour, east of San Antonio. These are Catholic churches that are painted and were founded by German, Polish, and Czech settlers to America.
Glad you enjoyed seeing it again! I think I'll have to make sure I stay away from JLP for my next historic church video.. I didn't mean to visit two in a row, promise! 😅
Thank you so much for sharing these images! Very encouraging, and insightful in every way! Just beautiful in balance, harmony, colour and design! And how excellent to have on display the original preparatory drawings too... Such a prvivilege to see that extraordinary commitment to excellence! Remarkable❤
It's quite an ensemble isn't it. And the preparatory drawings are, in my opinion, a greater highlight! Thanks for your lovely comment and so pleased to read you enjoyed seeing the clips I put together!
This is a utterly stunning church, well worth a visit in anyone's book, thanks so much for showcasing it in your video and happy St. Patrick's Day! 😊❤⛪☘
Thank you for a superb video. Having passed the Norman Church sign on the A614 for 20 years, I diverted one day to this church. Nothing prepared me on opening the door. I started a 12 month quest over the lockdown period and I photographed all the churches along the A614 from the M62 to Bridlington Priory and had two copies printed. All started from that visit.
When I was in Yorkshire (2005/6) I asked for directions to Garton. Along with the route info, my informant added 'I hope you know it's all Victorian...' A quite incredible interior and you've done a great job of showing it off. Top class job !
Fantastic Rob, such a special building and I enjoyed your commentary. I remember my first visit, I went cold without knowing what was inside. It blew my socks off.
That is fabulous, thank you for sharing. I would like to point out that the background music is very loud. Unfortunately for those with hearing loss it makes it difficult to understand everything you are saying. That said thanks again, it is well worth a visit.
@@churchcrawling Was in the area last year but didn’t have a specific church interest then - I want to revisit the area sometime and will definitely pen it in for next time I’m up there. Cheers.
Thank you for the video. I knew this church was decorated, but had *no* idea. Very much a must-visit. I was particularly taken by the glimpse of the roundels in a frieze below the windows, having visited St Mary the Virgin at Houghton-on-the-Hill in Norfolk which had been left for derelict until saved by a man who refused to accept "No". The very early wallpaintings he discovered had those same roundels of saints, more or less in the same colours. Fascinating.
Very interesting and thanks for sharing your thoughts on the comparison with Houghton on the Hill. The medieval precedent is certainly very strong in the 1870s design from Clayton and Bell.
I have to admit I'd hoped the paintings were going to be medieval, but they're really good in their own right, and it's a really beautiful restored church. I love that the Victorian artist did a decent impression of medieval art, but also included obviously anachronistic details like a pineapple and an anatomically accurate giraffe (rather than a 'camelopard'). I wonder whether they were just mistakes, or if they were done deliberately as a private joke?
This what English churches were like before the reformation when ancient wall paintings were whitewashed over and medieval stained glass smashed . Some fragments have survived that destruction.
Wow! That's a labour of love alright
Sure is!
That's an impressive Church, thank you for taking us around 😊
It really is gobsmacking! Glad you enjoyed it 😄
Those walls! Such a beautiful and unique style. Thanks for showing us!
Amazing church, thanks for posting the video
Thanks, Pete!

One of my favourite churches, so good to see it again, thank you.

Thank you! And your lockdown project sounds fascinating! There are some truly special, old church buildings along that road and off nearby lanes!

Thank you, Philip! You may have visited some time ago, but I think you'll agree, it's not an interior easily forgotten!

Thanks, Allan! It really must have been a shock!!
Wow, that's a remarkable church - good old Clayton and Bell! Thanks for another great video.😊
Good old Clayton & Bell, indeed! I'm also fond of their window glass at Fimber and Thixendale nearby. Thanks for watching!

Really wonderful church - a must visit next time I'm up that way. Thanks for pointing it out, Rob
Glad to share it with you. Plenty of interesting old churches up this way!

Fabulous, glass and paintings. Great video, cheers.
Thanks, Chris!
Well, the Grade 2 listing on that gravestone didn't do much to ensure its upkeep, did it?
So often the case, unfortunately!
