A strange anomaly is that the Royal National Lifeboat Institution operates from bases in the Republic of Ireland. Always a great service no matter where they launch from. How many sailors in ships large and small who are in distress let out a cheer when the lifeboat hoves into view because they know just how good these guys are.
Even though Ireland has been a republic for quite a while, there are still quite a few clubs and societies that have royal in their name eg The Royal Cork Yacht Club.
Outstanding seamanship required in these conditions. And above all respect for the power of the sea. All of them have my utmost admiration for saving lives sometimes costing their own. Thankfully those events are rare.
if its any consolations i got drenched watching you & was involved in x2 dartmoor rescues this week alone!!! 7.5hours of listening to someone in pain!!! from a twisted spine & back!! whilst dressed in my pyjamas underneath a non waterproof jkt!!
The risk is death but the reward is life. For me the rewards for doing this job far outweigh the risks, saying that though I wouldn't have the balls to do this, keep it up.
Wow, is the engine whine up and down because the pilot is throttling up and down or is that the sea loading and unloading the props putting strain on the engines?
I'm not an expert but it would take a heck of a lot. She's a Severn class by the look of it. They can self right if they capsize, and in clear water with no rocks around there is very little that would really damage it significantly. If it were bashed up against a rocky outcrop then that could cause it to become holed and sink but she has a reinforced hull that should prevent that sort of thing too.
Thank you all for putting to sea on these calls....may god keep all safe (fair winds ,calm seas be on your watch and may white horses be still on your morns rise.)
you actually got called out today to a yacht in trouble between jennycliff & bovisand harbor how did that one turn out? i only live around the corner? was a rapid squall freaked out the flotilla!
I'm a kayaker that regularly goes out fishing on my yak but consider a 20mph wind forecast as a no way I'm going out to sea time! What the hell was a kayaker doing out in swells like this, even if they were in a sheltered bay, the wind forecast must have been high surely.
Oh no they don't! Can you imagine what would happen if they relied on the govt then all funding was withdrawn because the govt sees fit to no longer fund them. Govt must never be allowed to have anything to do with the RNLI. They would destroy them.
No thanks. Proud and honoured to serve, but we wouldn't want to be dependent on the whims of some bureaucrat in Whitehall who would cut funding at the drop of a hat and cost lives.
Michele, agree, the govt would have them respond in a 10' inflatable. We had an idiot Prime Minister who shut down at least 1 CG station.Fortunately his predecessor reversed the decision a year o r so later.
romakayak, we fished a kayacker out of the water just under 30 years ago. Gratitude is in the face when you pull them out. Prior to that they think they are going to die. That look will spur you into action.
That's not a Force 10 - Where is the spume? Check the Beaufort scale descriptions. Looks like a Force 8 at most to me. (Most of the crashing about is from the boat driving into the wind at speed.) Unless they are in very sheltered waters and the F10 was outwith that area.
They are in a relatively sheltered area sheltered area. The entrance to Plymouth is very well protected and for the run up to Burgh Island they would have had significant shelter from the curve of the bay and headlands. Burgh Island is close inshore (only an island at high tide) and an all year round haunt of the 1930's glitterati being a second home of Agatha Christie and counting the likes of Noel Coward and and Edward and Mrs Simpson among regular guests. From the description they turned back before even getting there as the canoeist checked in safe. I am quite sure the RNLI doesn't need to exagerate so one can trust their claim as to the wind force.
These brave people really deserve our support, I've been giving ever since i was old enough to earn and i have left a substantial portion of my estate to them, that was until now. I will never support them again. I'm sorry but it's the RNLI not the RILI, National not International. Stop empire building. I expect my donations to support the British not people in Africa and elsewhere, if you have so much money, help those that need it in the UK those that work tirelessly on our behalf, not those abroad. Giving Burkini's to those in Africa makes a mockery of those brave soles that regullarly risk and to those that have given their lives to save those in the UK seas. For example Penlee and others. Its a bloody disgrace
rnli.org/support-us/how-your-support-helps/where-your-money-goes A whole 2% goes international and it's to measures to prevent drowning. Surely that's a good thing? We have some of the most advanced technology for saving lives at sea, surely being able to pass some of that knowledge on to other countries so they can build up their ability to save lives is a good thing? And for a mere 2%!? Buttons!
yes, these guys do a great job, but why do they keep saying that every job is an emergency, they are just like the Fire service over playing there call outs,.
MAXIMUM RESPECT TO THR GUYS AND GIRLS OF THE RNLI

If I was in Ireland, I wouldn't complain about them as they are going out into conditions where others are trying to get in.

💛💛💛
Great work folks always there when we need you.cheers Tom.
Stunning work you guys and girls do.
Balls as big as houses! Such legends!

I grew up where we had a Severn class life boat in portrush, always love to hear them engines roar.
Our local stations are Ilfracombe who have a Shannon, Appledore who have a B class and Tamar and Clovelly who have a B class
Hang on a bloody minute! How the hell can there be 28 thumbs down when these people are risking their lives to save lives??? Selfish!!! 😡
Dr Chunky Biscuit maybe accidentally pushed wrong button? :-)
Thanks to all in the RNLI. (subscribed)
Wow, that's a bunch of boat to get up outta the hole like that.
Great work!! Brave folks.
👍🇺🇸👍🇺🇸
Thanks so much! 😄
Yes, because that's the attitude the RNLI should take to life-saving..
That's very kind - thank you :-)
RNLI, re boats and horsepower, 'Best to have more than you need than need more than you have.'
The risk is death but the reward is life. For me the rewards for doing this job far outweigh the risks, saying that though I wouldn't have the balls to do this, keep it up.
just one word HERO,S
Presumably you know this incident well as you know what the conditions were reported to be and what they were when he set out.
Fortunately, the canoeist actually managed to make their own way ashore safely
Some fair old seas running there.Looking for a canoeist in these conditions? Nutcase in a canoe.
Wow, is the engine whine up and down because the pilot is throttling up and down or is that the sea loading and unloading the props putting strain on the engines?
Well there are no props all the boats of the rnli have a system like a jet boat( im from st ives in cornwall
@@richardveal6135 no they don’t. Only the Shannon Class have water jet drives. This is a Severn Class Lifeboat which has props.
U can never tell how rough it is in recorded footage. Alway looks better than it realy was. Speaking 4rm experience
Awesome men and boats, my mum and dad donated to the RNLI, what i would give to be on that boat,
bmwnasher and Women...
Unsung Hertos, well done guys!
you guys are true hero's
The best experienced crews with the best kit.Should not be funded by subscription but the government.

Fair play... that's a bit lumpy :-)

Isn't having balls of steel a serious drowning risk?

Real Life Super heroes.
I hope you boys dont have to pay for a drink when you get home? legends
These fellas need real support from the government
Yeah, specially when they are forced to rescue idiots venturing a far past back flagged sea.
Oh no they don't!

Id be screaming my bloody moobs off!
I bet that isn't even the worst they've had
You also use rainX. Wipers are a nuisance. More people should know about it.
Wow
👍
Should have not bothered going out for the canoeist. He knew what he was doing and he deserved to drown.

snois2 alright mate, we get it ur ard as nails
A 10 isnt that bad but is worse in a small boat like this
yes, these guys do a great job, but why do they keep saying that every job is an emergency, they are just like the Fire service over playing there call outs,.
