I am experiencing the same thing. Big schools of crappie that will not bite. I have figured out that the crappie that are holding on to structure are more willing to bite.

When you throw them back i was told they go back to the school and alert the other fish and it spooks them so they keep them in the live well until the end of the day and release them is that true or a myth
