    Guild neighbourhoods sound so much better to me than a guild hall. I would like a guild hall to be part of the neighbourhood though, so houses can be personal and the hall can be a cool meeting place, but if given the choice of only a hall or only a neighbourhood, hood wins hands down.

      But having the option of building a guild hall or not should be available so you can have total freedom of choice... I wish it'll be like that!! In the post it talked about how the residents in the neighborhood contribute to a communal thing for the neighborhood....that totally opens up the possibility of making a guild hall (especially for highly social guilds including raiding guilds) but you'll still have your own house, best of both worlds!!

      depending on neighborhood layout, it would be cool to earn a local inn/pub to furnish and populate with NPC. On top of that it would be cool (very unlikely) to take a step further and include custom built NPCs (bar tender, waitress, cook ect..) with in game generated names, to shut down any of the some more 'childish' naming conventions by the players.

    • @drudle

      I think both would be optimal. Instead of FFXIV's system of a guild hall with multiple rooms, I think having a smaller guild hall situated in a neighborhood of guild houses would work great. It would act like a central hub of guild activity whereas the houses would be for personal things. You could even have separate functions.
      Like, guild hall would have access to your guild bank. Your house would have access to your warband bank. But your personal vault bank? And all other banks in one central area? Keep that in the city. It could be the same with profession orders: personal ones? Your house can get them. Guild ones? Your guild hall. Public ones? The city (along with all others). This would allow some ease of options for your house but also may force you to go into cities to do bigger tasks.

      Like, have a guild hall basically be like a Norse long-hall with two/three long tables that you can all sit at, and maybe with a stage and podium at its head so the guild leader can lead a meeting or something, but it doesn't need to be anything much more special than that.
      Edit: Or like a barracks, with a mess hall to hang out, a meeting room, and maybe a few rooms with bunks in.

    What i hope to see:
    1. Armor display mannequins
    2. Shield and weapon racks
    3. Aquariums (This would require a model for each fish in the game, but would link into the fishing profession and make it exponentially more interesting)
    4. Food displays on tables (This would require a model for each dish in the game, but would likewise make cooking much more interesting)
    5. Flower pots/gardens (This would use the existing herb models, but would make herbalism way more interesting)
    6. Lore bookshelves (for notes and books found in the game)
    7. Pet and mount areas (with basic critter movements, so they don't simply stand_idle there)
    8. Color options for walls/floor/roofing/fences, etc
    Areas I would like to live: Echo Isles, Gilneas, Grizzly Hills, Scholazar Basin, Uldum, Mulgore, Moonglade, Nagrand, Zuldazar, Stormsong Valley, Thaldraszus, Bel'Ameth, Zul'Drak, Suramar, Revendreth, Bastion, Aredenweald, Stranglethorn Vale, Twilight Highlands, some rebuild of a new Kirin Tor city.

      Echo Isles, Gilneas, Mulgore, Dun Morogh (or Khaz Modan), Azuremyst Isle (the Myst Isles in general), Eversong Woods (Quel'Thalas), Ashenvale and/or Bel'ameth, Tirisfal Glades (Lordaeron area), all have the be the main priority zones in my eyes, for races that have been in the game so long. Hopefully Kezan/Undermine for Goblins, and a Pandaria themed one too. After that, Suramar ir clearly a strong favourite. Grizzly Hills and Nagrand I could maybe see. Maybe places for the other allied races, like Kul Tiras, Highmountain, Zandalar, the Hinterlands, Shadowforge City, Draenor, etc. I can't see Shadowlands areas happening any time soon (if ever), given that our characters shouldn't really be living there.

      It's a bit odd to hear Tali say he doesn't wanna see orcs in Stormwind, but then he wants to see humans in Silvermoon.. I don't really like that. They should be separate, for sure.
      Also the new draenei capital is a floating city, so it would be a huge missed opportunity if it isn't the player-hub in Midnight. Especially with how relevant they are to the Light storyline.

    The idea of working together to improve your neighbourhood sparks a lot of interesting ideas, and I think the favourite one for me is the idea that there will be open spaces and shared structures/facilities within each neighbourhood that we can help progress and design. Think along the lines of the way we progressed through the Isle of Quel'danas back in 2.4, but instead of advancement being story based which unlock more daily quests, instead it's "look after the space around you and you get to do more with it....via an awkward voting system like the mage tower in patch 7.2".

  • @deployed246
    @deployed246 4 дні тому +6

    Ideally, the neighbour schedule will work as follows;
    1) The Kingdom of Stormwind and Province of Orgrimmar neighbourhoods come during the lull between TWW and Midnight
    2) Gilneas and Lordaeron neighbourhoods launched with either 12.0 or 12.1
    3) Silvermoon as a neutral neighbourhood/dual neighbourhood post 12.2
    4) Revisit a founding race for each faction for the midnight > last titan lull
    I considering this to be too optimistic, and step 3 kinda relies on Silvermoon being occupied by void forces at the start of Midnight and become liberated by the end, which is not a confirmed story arc. It would also mean each faction gets a choice of four neighbourhoods between the end of TWW and the beginning of the Last Titan, which is twice as many as I expect us to get. I just consider ignoring Lordaeron City and Gilneas during Midnight and a huuuge miss.

    • @drudle
      @drudle 4 дні тому +1

      A lot of people are on the train of Gilneas being the Alliance hub for Northern EK/Midnight. But honestly? I think taking back Stratholme may be a better option. It's a lot closer to Silvermoon and all we really need to do is clean it up a bit. And ya know, put out those eternal fires. After that, it's a legit 10 second flight to Blood Elf lands.

    • @TheBystander3
      @TheBystander3 4 дні тому +1

      I think Silvermoon will be paired with a rebuilt Draenei city in Azuremyst Isles. If they bring Quel'thalas onto the main Eastern Kingdoms map and enable flying in Midnight, it would make sense to bring Azuremyst into the Kalimdor map at the same time. At the end of the Draenei heritage armor quest line, they announced that they are working on building a new Draenei home city.
      If it was me, I would do:
      1) Stormwind and Orgrimmar during the tail end of War Within
      2) Silvermoon and Azuremyst in Midnight
      3) Gilneas and Lordaeron in the Last Titan
      Later:
      4) Bel'Ameth and Undermine
      That's assuming they do one Horde and one Alliance-themed neighborhood per expansion. I hope it's faster than that, but I have a feeling these take a lot of work. I'm convinced we must be getting Gilneas and Lordaeron at some point. Otherwise, why have storylines about re-occupying those cities?

  • @Tophusification
    @Tophusification 4 дні тому +5

    On the subject of new player experience and how to make it better, I honestly think that everything should start with your house. Then you can check out your neighborhood, meet other players, and pick up quests from the quest board. Because if Blizzard are smart they will put a quest board right in the middle of the neighborhood.

    • @drudle
      @drudle 4 дні тому +1

      I'm hoping they give neighborhoods a few amenities. A small, centralized tavern or "shopping area" that has a tavern (where you can bind as I don't til we'll see binding to your personal house), a quest board, etc. Nothing big or fancy, just a cute connected spot for starters or where your neighborhood people can meet up or something. Imagine the first town you come across outsider of a big city (Razor Hill, Goldshire, etc) that has base amenities.

    Just tossing it out there, Chris Metzen teased player housing when he closed out blizcon… “It’s time to come home.” Which at the time was an odd phrase to say, considering we didn’t have a home in Azeroth… I said it after he uttered that line that we would be seeing player housing by midnight.

    • @hobosnake1
      @hobosnake1 2 дні тому

      I think Metzen said it, but maybe not. Somebody said "midnight will be the expansion with all the features players will be excited about." At the time, I thought it was truly strange to throw TWW under the bus. To this day, I still feel it's odd. The word used was features. So I'm hopeful for something else other than housing, but my gut was that the weight behind that statement was intended to pretty much just be housing.

    I think that the construction system they are talking about could be similar to the one in Palia. Palia homes are built from customizable but premade components. You build a standard main house and add on hallway sections, various sized rooms, atriums etc. The wallpapers, roof tiles, and floors can all be customized in look but the building components are all standard. They also have smalled building blocks to get creative with. People have build some incredible things, even the Disneyworld Tower of Terror.

    The key aspect to not lose sight off is this is just the start of the feature. With it being evergreen they can expand and adjust based on feedback as they roll out more zones or themes... etc.
    I do hope you are correct in that each character will get to select and create and customize as a home. I do want my Death knight main to have a different look than my main hunter, warlock and mage. If we get ONE house per warband I will be somewhat disappointed... but can get over that I think.
    I do hope they lean into the neighborhood common areas idea however. A meeting hall, Inn, Dance floor, Park... and other related areas would be really fun.

    Our guild has somewhere approaching 100 people, so it's interesting to consider how our guild neighborhood might work. We also have an 'alts' guild that is connected through an addon. I have toons in both the main guild and the alt guild. I have both horde and alliance characters, and I have some characters in a couple completely different guilds, and unguilded. And to top all that, I am an rper, so the possibilities and the 'how is that gonna work' and all that is fascinating to me. Thanks for going through all that you know and think and speculate about player housing.

    • @TyrannosavageRekt

      Also puts forth the possibility that neighbourhoods may not be restricted by realm. I think that private neighbourhoods may be populated by however many players are invited, and then any "open plots" left over may be filled by NPCs, rather than other public players. Perhaps you'll have things you can unlock to expand your neighbourhood, be it through guild perks or otherwise, to have more plots as demand requires. Or if you literally can *live* in a friend's house, maybe some people in guild neighbourhoods could be housemates, etc. and share the more communal spaces while having their own rooms (inflation hitting Azeroth too, haha).

      @drudle 4 дні тому +2

      THIS. I think having a town square hub is super important. A tavern for setting your hearth, a warboard for quests, a shop for basic profession items (like vials), etc. If they do neighborhood progression for things you would pick up your dailies or weeklies here to work on things.

    • @JesCorrow
      @JesCorrow 4 дні тому

      @drudle Yes! And a neighborhood shop should sell everything needed for Darkmoon Faire - horde can get anything needed from 1 building in Orgrimmar, but Alliance can't. And basic stuff for crafting. I'd also love to see crafting tables in the neighborhood. I know people want them in their houses, but I don't want to take up all that space in my house.

    • @drudle
      @drudle 4 дні тому

      @@JesCorrow Crafting tables, but no access to Orders. I'm still in favor of cities having the bulk of utility so that there's still a reason to go there.
      Like, put Warband Bank in your home. I can see that. But your normal bank? That belongs in the city vault. Same as guild bank (until guild halls or something similar get put in.) Give homes and neighborhoods limited functionality so you can do personal things, but anything else I say to keep it in cities.

    • @JesCorrow
      @JesCorrow 4 дні тому +1

      @drudle I'm not so sure - before I knew that there would be neighborhoods, I would have agreed to all of that. But now that we know there will be a community of around 50 people sharing the space, that seems like the perfect opportunity to drive interactions in the neighborhood. In the cities, I have no reason to talk to people; in a neighborhood, I'll be surrounded by people that I have a vested interest in interacting with. I'd much rather start chatting with the people in my neighborhood than randos around the city. Regardless, I'd still be fine with crafting orders being in the cities only. I just hope they give us ways to WANT to interact with our neighbors. I also really hope that people in my neighborhood would be down to set up a raid night and stuff - a way to communicate an event like that would be great.

    • @drudle
      @drudle 4 дні тому +1

      @JesCorrow Yeah, it's definitely going to be difficult to balance. I can see the whole desire to find ways to interact with neighbors being great, but there's also larger portions outside of that. Like, my main PVE guy will be in our guild neighborhood but I already talk with those guys all the time on Discord and raiding and all that. Making new friends in one new community is great but not at the expense of limiting the communities even outside of your neighborhood.
      In a perfect world, each community will have different ways of interacting and playing together. I imagine it much like the real world; having your own gated community is fine, but only knowing that community can become an echo chamber fast. Sometimes you should have to go out and interact with randos. I'm excited to see how they'll try to do that, lol.

Even if the entire town wanted the same house, that's something that could happen. One one person's version of that house would show up in the game world, but it would rotate and change with time. And anyone could visit anyone else's house with an invite.

    This is sounding to be exactly what EverQuest housing is, too. Guild neighborhoods, guild hall, grant/remove access to people, mounts and pets roaming around, portal items to certain areas of the world that are kind of out of the way, etc. You can get buffs from items you place in the house or yard. It uses, what looks to be, the dev tools for manipulating items, so there is a LOT that can be done with it. I only bring up the similarities to EverQuest because Holly led it for years, so if it is going to be like that system, it's going to very nice.

    THAT SAID: they could make a new zone along the river where Elwynn, Westfall, and Duskwood intersect, putting a new village center crossing over new bridges, and player houses radiating out from the river banks.

Night elves and blood elves are actually the two most-played races in the game statistically, more so than even orcs & humans, and part of Midnight's story is apparently about "reuniting the elven tribes" of Azeroth, so I could see them being at the forefront. Draenei, mostly because it feels like in that expansion we're going to get both Quel'Thalas and the Myst Isles revamped and connected to the "old world" zones, so they'll have more assets, and possibly two new cities.

    I have been playing ESO for a while and have a mild addiction to filling my houses with tons of plants, eventually adding lighting and maybe furniture. I am hoping they have tons of good plant assets for us to use. Also something ESO has but is definitely light on is water options to create standing ponds, streams, etc.. Blizzard would be doing me and other nature enthusiast-decorators a huge service by making those available.

    Regarding the mailboxes: I don't think each house gets it's own mailbox. Like towns and capital there will be a couple spread out over the neighborhood. This also motivates players to leave their house and meet other players inside their neighborhood.

    I’m hoping it’s some cosmetic type things like everyone marks a few trees in WOD and when you reach the goal everyone unlocks some WOD themed furniture. Or the Inn in your hood has run out of seafood bisque so we need to catch them some fish and everyone can unlock Inn style windows. Also, the inn is where you can set your hearthstone so after a day of adventuring you can stumble home from the inn and log out in your bed 😅😅

    I think you can make portals/banks/ah/etc rewards for neighborhoods without causing a scenario where Liquid optimizes the fun out of it. You just have to make them rewards for the number of people in the neighborhood, rather than a being rewarded from tasks/designs. For example, 2 players = barber, 5 = ah, 7 = bank, 10 = portals. Since these would be features normally reserved for cities, which are more social areas, it makes sense to have them as rewards for making your neighborhood more social via adding more players.

  • @nireas570
    @nireas570 4 дні тому

    2nd Alliance one is deffinitely a Dwarven themed one in the snowy mountains of Khaz Modan! If they keep going for the ""classic" races first, then maybe Tirisfal for a more forsaken theme for Horde, but Tali is probably right, as Silvermoon is probably one of the most wanted locations. Most Horde players ARE BElves after all.

    • @Diolur
      @Diolur 4 дні тому

      I really hope not, it was too much of a dwarf theme for many of us.
      And if we go by the line of thinking about the most popular races in the faction, it's the night elves, but their zonescape is too similar to humans, we'd already have humans - the second most popular Alliance race, so next one would be... Draenei, and they're building a new home (oh how convenient!), so case closed, I guess...

    42:30 It actually sounds a lot like they took a lot of inspiration from Lord of the Rings Online for the neighborhoods.
    1:07:20 I think these two zones will be all we have throughout Midnight and that they will add another one in The Last Titan.
    1:15:10 That's actually a huge difference between Housing and the Garrisons. With garrisons they promised a lot and where unable to deliver, partly because it was an expansion only feature (a mistake in my opinion).
    With the Housing they take the opposite approach and openly say so in the post: They start with a very limited scope in terms of architecture styles and zones but are already planning ona roadmap to add more.
    It doesn't matter that much that it's only Orc and Human at start because we already know that more is to come and we know that moving will be a thing because it is literally in the post, so if someone doesn't want to stay in his human/orc zone when the next zone is added they can move there.
    I think we'll start with one zone and one architect style and a lot of customization for the inside at the beginning. In my opinion the cycle will be that a few more architect styles will be added on a big patch timer (like getting the next one with the .2 patch and the third one with the next expansion) while new zones will probably be added with new expansions.
    If that is more or less the way they go that would mean 4 zones (2 per faction) at the beginning of The Last Titan with 3 architect styles per faction - that's already a lot of options.
    They'll keep the zones faction specific in my opinion - iw would feel really weird to see Horde architecture in Elwynn Forest or Alliance structures in Durotar.
    1:19:50 I think The Last Titan will bring us the much requested Grizzly Hills Housing zone since that expansion is set in Northrend. And maybe a second one in either Sholazar Basin, Howling Fjord or Crystalsong.

    My advice to anyone starting to play this game as a newbie, would be to play on classic. The reason I say that is because many of us veterans remember how challenging playing classic actually was. Thunderstrike EU Anniversary Realm is packed full of players right now and there are a few newer players. If I really wish to understand my class, what it is capable of, then start again. I am currently rolling a rogue on classic, when back in the day (2007), it was a mage and I know my mage's strengths and weaknesses. So I push my rogue to see how far I can take her and what is essentially going to make her do that long corpse run. She definitely cannot handle more than 2 mobs. Found that one out the hard way and my most hated toons to fight against are the quillboar in the barrens, "you no take candle" in - well anywhere really but right now in stonetalon mountains and finally harpies. I hate those harpies. Many deaths. But I'm having fun and speaking to people I never spoke to before. I'm going to say from a social aspect, things started to go south in WoD. I'm interested in where this new announcement will take us but right now, I'm back in classic doing it all again after a 2 year break from WoW due to university in business management :)

      One house per toon, as of now. Therefore, you as a PERSON will have multiple houses. Your toons will be able to go between these.
      So if you have a mage, hunter, and rogue, each one of them can have one house. YOUR houses (not their houses, but yours) are shared by Warband, so your rogue can go to each others, your mage can go to each others, etc.

    SO i think that when they add another Neighborhood after the Elwynn and Durotar ones will be JUST the Silvermoon one by itself, and I think it will be Neutral, allowing both Horde and Alliance to move in. I think this will come at the end of midnight after we have, as Metzen said, "Reunited the Elves". I think that, like the first two, they will pull from the different Elven aesthetics - part being standard Silvermoon, part being Night Elf-y, part being void elf and part being Nightborne. I think that will also be it, I don't think they'll add any more. Just one neutral, one horde, and one alliance.

    Around 2006-2010 I spent a lot of time in Second Life so I'm pretty familiar with 3d building in a simplified setting that can get as complex as the user wants. In SL people would create shells and prebuilts and sell them to other players. You could then customize them, even disassemble parts of them and rebuild if you were ambitious, but most people would just adjust and change textures and such, not completely rebuild. I could see a simplified version of this going into WoW. Maybe they will allow for those who want to completely build their own and share them with others, or even dare I say sell them on the auction house?

    I could see a wood worker, specializing in some weapons or weapon templates for others to enchant or inscribe. I still would love it to include 'instrument crafting' which would pair perfectly with a bard class... though I prefer their Hearthstone idea of ALL classes are bards, just make it a new spec for all! It would be the fastest way to normalize 'Augmentation' and prevent the need for future nerfs to a spec that barely has its legs; if EVERYONE has a mutual role, every group can have at least 1.

    If you look at nee player experiences. The best version of it wow has ever had was in classic. Yes, there are obscurities, yes the questing can be obnoxious, but the pros easily outweigh the cons: You don't skip around storylines cause you outlevel every zone you're in 40% of the way in it, you don't have extremely confusing time travel weirdness happening, you're not being called "champion" as soon as you step out of exile's reach, you actually feel like one player among many others, your starting zone actually plays into your choice of race in character creation and unique class quests do the same for your class. Your skills don't get thrown at you at breakneck pace. The game doesn't think "if we teach them how to move their character around, they're basically good to set off in the world" and that's just the tip of the iceberg here.
    Set a new player loose in classic wow today vs. retail and classic will make 100 times more sense to them as their first experience with wow.
