Thanks, Margaret! In the past decade I have worked part time as a personal assistant. I’m self employed and have had four senior clients who hire me to help them with things such as writing checks for bills, filing important papers, completing computer forms, typing letters, tutoring on social media and cell phones, etc. I also do light work such as closet organizing, donating unwanted items, running errands. . .whatever the client wants that makes their life easier. This is what I'm planning on doing as well and will be also offering light housekeeping, laundry, yardwork, etc. I felt it would be a good idea to learn how to clean professionally, so currently I'm working for a cleaning company 2 days a week for a family. It includes full house cleaning, yard work, laundry, etc. This will be training that I can use for my future business . I will be advertising most likely on the Nextdoor neighborhood app and through word of mouth. I'm being a bit controversial here but sometimes work is overrated, why do we feel we always have to work? We have probably already spent decades working, if you don't need the extra money you could just relax, potter about, garden, make art, read, do a free YT course, enjoy what makes you happy and take it easy, you've earned it! I don't understand people who feel they have to keep working at all costs and consider those who don't "lazy", just relax, chill, potter about the garden, meet friends, spend more time with your companion animals and people who love you (they won't be around forever!), go window-shopping and pamper yourself, put yourself first, you don't have to keep being productive and driven, enjoy your retirement.
I worked in retail for 16 years and it is true. Majority of sales in November and December. I was just there the other day and they were doing really well. Immigrants love to go there.🎉❤😊 Now I work 16 hours a week cleaning bathrooms in a mall. I live off of that and SSDI.
Some people feel the need to work because that may be their only means to have an identity, or to socialize, or perhaps feel productive. Perhaps their retirement pension is also not enough to cover their cost of living expenses. Others just want to get away from home or their bickering spouses.
LIfe coach, weight loss coach, proof-reader, typist, walking visually-impaired/disabled people and those suffering from agoraphobia, stylist, decluttering, helping someone fill in forms, apply for grants, holiday companion, picking up children from school/dropping them off, food bank volunteer or other charity work. Catsitter is still one of the best petsitting jobs, less demanding than dog walking so quite relaxing and you can asked to be paid cash.
I am soon to be 70 and retirement is not a financial option. I work as a self-employed non-medical senior caregiver. These days, I do not take clients who require lifting, showering, etc. due to my arthritis. $25 an hour is a great gig for me and I have a steady income.
I am training to be a CHW (Community Health Worker). This person works with clients to help them know the resources that are available in their state/community. You do not have to do the heavy lifting of a home health aide. The aide is one of the resources that you might be able to recommend. You do get paid - at least as much as you're getting now. You might work with a hospital, city health office, or even for the DA's office. Basically, you are a liaison between the doctor and the patient (which means that you might go to the doctor with the patient to help interpret their needs). There are many opportunities. The programs are available in all states. They are free and often come with a stipend while you do the internship. Our training program in NY is at night on Zoom 2x a week. The internship will last 1 month part-time. I am almost 80, by the way.
@@halaurent I'm in NYC, can you tell me who to contact? Oh--nevermind. I just looked it up and found out that I'm not eligible for the training bcuz I have a hearing impairment. But it would be great if I didn't have that problem.
I’m a retired teacher and am now subbing at the primary school (K-3) here. I have some mobility issues and the school is aware so they are very accommodating, bless them! At the orientation we were told we had the choice of what grades/campuses and days we wanted, it’s so flexible! Mine is a small school district so it’s only about $95/day, but that is my Christmas money for my grands!!
At 63, I took a difficult training course and became certified to teach pilates reformer. One of my emplpyers paid half of the training in return for one year of work there. I could teach 30 or more classes a week if I wanted to commit to that. The pay ranges from $27 to $45, working for others. I teach about 20 to 25 classes some weeks. I was a long-time pilates reformer practitioner. I've already surpassed my ROI point in less than one year.
That is my dream! I would love to know more about this and how much it cost to get certified and where you trained. I live in Atlanta GA. I have trained at Atlanta Pilates and love both Yoga and Pilates and am trying to find a fusion class or which one I want to teach in retirement in a year or so.
I think I mentioned this in the last couple of months, but I’m 70 and started looking for work after being retired for nine years and the way the economy has been I needed to look for something. A wonderful opportunity came up for me. That is caregiving. I’ve been the caregiver in my family my whole life. It is something I enjoy doing. And I love helping. It was an ideal fit. I can pick and choose the hours and clients. And the pay is good. I know that’s not for many people, but that industry can really use some good help. Thanks Margaret.❤️

I would urge caution when it comes to working with children, it's a lot of responsibility and parents can be demanding and unreasonable, always siding with often spoiled children who think they're little princes and princesses. I used to be a nanny and found it very draining work that lead to me neglecting my health, eating and wellbeing. Walking dogs also entails a lot of responsibilities and you could get sued if a dog runs away or bites someone or is involved in a fight, owners often lie about their dogs being well trained and well behaved when they're not. I also stopped looking after prey animals like rabbits, birds, hamsters, which I adore, because very often owners didn't have a safe/escape-proof habitat/garden and the responsibility was just too much. Be careful with jobs involving living creatures, make sure you are fully insured or you could lose your home if somebody sues you. A safer job would be gardening and watering house and garden plants while owners are on holiday or incapacitated, you could advertise in hospitals.
I went to my grandson's daycare and read some 📚📖 book's to his class and the children loved 😍 it and it was so much 😊 fun. This was on Grandparent's Day🎉🎉🎉
I’m in Indiana. I’m 66 & drive a school bus 🚌. Most school districts will train you to drive to get your CDL license to drive large buses. Smaller vans don’t require a CDL-less complication. There is also great need for Bus Attendants for special needs & preschool students. I drive special needs/preschool & have an attendant. My schedule is about 6am-9am & 1:30pm-4:15pm. I go home in between if I’m not working mid-day routes or field trips/special projects. In our district, only working am or pm routes is also an option. 25 hours/week is considered full time so also have my insurance through the district. Contact your local school district for particulars on their requirements & policies. They’re not all the same. I do recommend working directly for a school district. Not all, but contract bus companies May have totally different policies. My school district paid us during covid . School was online/elearning for 6 months. Needless to say, when they need extra help, I’m there! I would have lost my insurance, etc. Best of luck!💁🏻♀️🚌
I drive a school bus as well and have for 20 years. I live in the northern burbs of Chicago. I love the job and have great benefits. I work for the district and have great health insurance including vision and dental. I have 10 paid holidays and the summers off if I don't want to work then. Though there's always work available. This is a great job for older adults who love being around kids. They really brighten my day and it reminds me of when my kids were young.

HouseKeeper and organizer, Personal Shopper, Pet Walking, and House Sitting. selling old books online, and writing articles would be my first pick. I only know of volunteer work for over sixty five year olds for most positions. No one wants to hire over that age. Yet, many retirees find work starting their own business. The only hurdle is paying for the business set up. Blessings to those who already have been employed for decades in their profession and are permitted to stay employed through their 70's.
In California and some other states, you can inexpensively get a business license to sell food you have produced in your home. Some of the vendors at our farmers market do this, or they take orders and deliver each week.
I do “ grandma school” with a child in Australia from the u s. With two working parents there isn’t time to listen to them practice their spelling words, reading aloud etc.
Good video! Some really interesting suggestions. Am not a retiree but some of these "jobs" would make really great side hustles for anyone looking to bring in non tech extra income.
Substitute Teacher. Here, where I live (WV, USA), you do not need to have a degree in education to become a "one day" sub. teacher. Any degree from a college or university will enable a person to become a substitute teacher. People without an educational degree, cannot be "long term sub.s" (fill in for teachers who are out on maternity leave, long term sick leave, out on long term Jury Duty, etc), they can only fill in for 5 days or less (here in West Virginia). However, if you do not have a degree, you can still be a sub - just not a teacher sub. You can be a substitute for a teacher's aide, a substitute custodian, a substitute school secretary (do need some computer skills, and some keyboarding skills), or one of the "lunch Ladies" (cafeteria cook). Here where I live, the special education buses have special aides (must be trained in how to physically handle students, into the safety harness or safety belts). They pay is not great, and there are no benefits (no insurance, no accumulation of sick time, no personal time off), and a person has to be ready to be called into work at a moment's notice, but it is a great job for people who like working with kids, and need to work daylight hours. A friend of mine, worked every day last year as a sub. teacher (she is a retired nurse).
I checked on museums near me and there are several. But every single one uses volunteer guides. Most of their positions are volunteer other than a few that have been full for years.

I work as a bathroom cleaner in a pretty good size mall. I clean six bathrooms and mop three hallways in 4 1/2 hours. It is the same hours every week and the pay is pretty good. My therapist helped me to unlock my intuition and that is how I chose this job. I’m active and needed.
Thank you for these great ideas! This will not earn you money, but I’d love to suggest joining the League of Women Voters (if you’re American !) an absolutely sterling, non-partisan civic organization. They do SUCH good work (creating voter guides, registering citizens to vote, studying important issues and developing position papers on legislation) and are so under appreciated. If you have a passion like education, transportation, etc., you will learn so much and meet fascinating people, including legislators at all levels of government. It’s been a wonderful, intellectually-stimulating and inspiring experience for me.
Very few libraries have the budgets to pay people to shelve books. This is especially true if you don't live in a city. The same is true for museums. Both of those places rely on volunteers.
I'm retired and wanting a job in the library. I applied and was called in for a typing test. I failed the test. I'm not a good typist. So I did not get the job. Apparently, library work requires typing. I'm going to look into floral shops.
It would likely depend upon the floral shop as to what they would need help with. Someone I once knew was hired as a delivery driver for a florist, which sounds like loads of fun delivering bouquets to happy customers. However, she also had to do a lot of heavy lifting: moving boxes full of plant/flower material from the storage room or coolers and back as well as heavy water filled buckets full of fresh flowers, etc. She was also required to keep the floors swept of cuttings, etc., make coffee, etc. etc. Just make sure the particulars are spelled out before you commit to any job.
Retired people are needed as tour guides. I was often told I was too young when i dod this job. And I noticed that many of the tour guides were older gentleman not so many women but definitely some women and if they were they were mostly older ladies.. they obviously have tons of knowledge and experience
I'm an artist so after stepping down from my full time job in marketing I now teach adult beginner art classes once a week which is my passion and work P/T doing promotional jobs -in store or exhibitions gained on my years of experience in this field - easy work and fun

Do you mean volunteers that have been vetted? It may be possible but you just need a background check that the employer will do and pay for too. It’s really more painless than it sounds and can take 1 week to 1 month. As someone who did consulting for banks I passed many background checks. They are looking for things like convictions of past crimes. Most of us are law abiding. Reconsider maybe.

I totally respect that position - thank you for sharing
Hi Mary - very proud of you!
Lulu couldn't agree with you more
Some people feel the need to work because that may be their only means to have an identity, or to socialize, or perhaps feel productive. Perhaps their retirement pension is also not enough to cover their cost of living expenses. Others just want to get away from home or their bickering spouses.
I'm 72 and not looking for work in retirement, but I appreciate helpful, informative content.
Excellent presentation! You have an expressive voice and lovely smile. Thank you for the ideas and encouragement.👏👏🔆
Who can I contact about becoming a proofreader?
Great suggestions. Thanks
I am soon to be 70 and retirement is not a financial option. I work as a self-employed non-medical senior caregiver. These days, I do not take clients who require lifting, showering, etc. due to my arthritis. $25 an hour is a great gig for me and I have a steady income.
I'm about to go back to work, as a home health aide. How do you get clients?
Do you have to have a degree to do this? That sounds like fun. I love helping people.
What do you do for them? Laundry, shopping, cooking, etc? How do you find clients?
I’m a retired teacher and am now subbing at the primary school (K-3) here. I have some mobility issues and the school is aware so they are very accommodating, bless them! At the orientation we were told we had the choice of what grades/campuses and days we wanted, it’s so flexible! Mine is a small school district so it’s only about $95/day, but that is my Christmas money for my grands!!
LIKED!!!
Key reason is the No Tech label.
Thank you Margaret. This is a wonderful blog!
Thanks!
@mariarooney6262 I am looking for a caregiving job. Are your patients needs assitance like physicaly disable. I am worried that it requires lifting patients. What kind of patients do you get ? I am interested in looking to caregiving. Thanks
What kind of an agency do you contact to do something like this? I live in the US.
@ it’s just a caregiver agency. This is a local company in my area. Thanks for asking.
@@CynthiaAva
I recommend contacting your local social service agency or county office. Also local hospitals will have information. Ask for a "case manager."
Caregiver or companion? Caregiver involves heavy lifting and highly personal care.
EXCELLENT BROADCAST!!! Thank You ALL for tips and suggestions Retirement Employment! ✔️👍🏽🥰🙏
Teach adult hobbies like knitting and quilting at high school or junior college adult education programs local in you area. Watercolor painting, oil painting, drawing, if you have that talent. Think outside the box.
Lovely idea!!!
Margaret this was an excellent topic! Thank you for posting. I’ve been retired for 1.5 years and am wanting a part-time job that I would enjoy. Your video gave me several ideas. I would love for you to expand on this and perhaps many will chime in on additional fun jobs for seniors.
These are wonderful and creative ideas. Thank you for sharing!
Several airlines have parttime customer support positions that pay $10-12 per hr for a 20 hrs week. But the best part is u get to fly anywhere for under $100!
Third generation airline professional; this statement is grossly exaggerated.
I really enjoyed this! Thank you for sharing these good ideas!
Thank you Margaret for the helpful video with great ideas! I organize many events and one friend pays me for my time ! I will clean out my house this winter and rent it again God willing, hit the road, and have fun as life is short ! My kids are married, my best bud pug passed and I am solo so why not ? I did the census made good money and met awesome people but that is only once every ten years but worth it ! There is a long application process which should be started months ahead of time. I started a travel business focusing on spas and healing but did nothing with it and really should as I LOVE organizing events and bringing joy to others ♥ Wishing everyone Happy Holidays and may we all stay strong and healthy and above all else, remain grateful always
Library is a great 👍😃 💡 idea. Thank's and I love reading and 📚📖 book's.
A safer job would be gardening and watering house and garden plants while owners are on holiday or incapacitated, you could advertise in hospitals.
always good to look at all sides
I am a 69-year-old nanny. I love it. I get hugs and I am loved and I have purpose and I have fun.
True, true and true!
A Notary!!!!!! Very rewarding!
What is that? Is it not a solicitors job?
@basketballfan5763 Hello, a notary is a person that notorarize documents for individuals seeking those services. Important documents that need to be notorarize before presenting them to a third party that required a notary's signature.
A travel notary!
I used to work for Rover!!! They were great!🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thank you so much Margaret! I have been in a transition from the fulltime corporate jobs and these job suggestions were great and encouraging! Thank you 😊 and God bless you. 💖
Thanks Jackie - wishing you well in your search!
That sounds interesting. How did you start this? Is there a website to get you started?
I would like to know too.
I'm 47, mom of 3 and you're such an inspiration!! Thank you for your work 🤩!
A companion as a caregiver if you enjoy talking to people
Luv your channel…thank you for so many informative videos…older small UA-camr here…just subscribed!
Good video! Some really interesting suggestions. Am not a retiree but some of these "jobs" would make really great side hustles for anyone looking to bring in non tech extra income.
Thanks for this! I get your newsletter on email and I sure enjoy it! 💃
Lots of wonderful ideas, thanks Margaret :)
Thank you for sharing this message
Thank you! Excellent job!
I do grocery shopping and delivery for Walmart Spark. Also DoorDash. I love it.
Thank you for the tips!❤🙌
💛🌺 Great ideas. Thank you
I checked on museums near me and there are several. But every single one uses volunteer guides. Most of their positions are volunteer other than a few that have been full for years.
Thank you so much for sharing ❤️ 😊
That’s was GREAT 🙏Thank You for ALL your Input of So Many different Jobs!! ❤️
In Texas we also have Store Greeters & at Cosco we have Food Tasters which are Fun & Easy Part Time Jobs.
Thank you Margaret! They're all great opportunities.
Great suggestions for supplemental income. One I'm exploring is making greeting cards using caligraphy skills. I enjoy it and I have found a need among a group I belong to. Hope you'll do some tech focused suggestions!
Great Suggestion!
Your makeup is on point!
Seriously? Her eyebrows are ridiculous.
Careful with catering from home because of health restrictions.
Thank you, Margaret, very helpful,
I work as a bathroom cleaner in a pretty good size mall. I clean six bathrooms and mop three hallways in 4 1/2 hours. It is the same hours every week and the pay is pretty good. My therapist helped me to unlock my intuition and that is how I chose this job. I’m active and needed.
Thank you so much! You've inspired me to pursue something I love which is organizing. Will begin my research today.👍
So many encore pursuits we now have clear schedules for
Lots of grt job or voluntary ideas! Enjoyed this blog! 💜Thank you Mgt . ❤️
Great!!! I'm ready😊
Thank you for this video
Very few libraries have the budgets to pay people to shelve books. This is especially true if you don't live in a city. The same is true for museums. Both of those places rely on volunteers.
Thank you. Good info
I'm retired and wanting a job in the library. I applied and was called in for a typing test. I failed the test. I'm not a good typist. So I did not get the job. Apparently, library work requires typing. I'm going to look into floral shops.
A floral shop sounds more fun!
Great information.
First time watching
Retired people are needed as tour guides. I was often told I was too young when i dod this job. And I noticed that many of the tour guides were older gentleman not so many women but definitely some women and if they were they were mostly older ladies.. they obviously have tons of knowledge and experience
I’m thinking of being a part-time custodian when I retire from my accounting career.
A lot of tax service companies hire people for the first few months of the year to do taxes, after they trained them, of course
I'm an artist so after stepping down from my full time job in marketing I now teach adult beginner art classes once a week which is my passion and work P/T doing promotional jobs -in store or exhibitions gained on my years of experience in this field - easy work and fun
Great ideas, thank you x
Thank you❤
To read to children you will need clearances - even to volunteer as a lunch or snack monitor. Just an FYI. The facility Will generally have the information you need to apply. And should cover the cost for volunteers.
Where do you find information on becoming an officiant? Love your channel.
Hi Nikki - someone else asked and this is what i found on chat GPT Individuals who perform ceremonies such as weddings and funerals are commonly known as celebrants or officiants. These professionals are trained to conduct personalized ceremonies that reflect the beliefs and values of the individuals involved.
If you're interested in becoming a celebrant or officiant, several organizations offer training courses:
American Marriage Ministries (AMM): AMM provides a Professional Wedding Officiant Certification Course that covers all aspects of officiating weddings, including ceremony planning and execution. The course is self-paced and includes videos, training materials, and quizzes.
THE AMM COURSES
Celebrant Foundation & Institute: This organization offers a six-month certification program that prepares individuals to create personalized ceremonies for various occasions, including weddings and funerals. The program includes online classes led by experienced instructors and covers multiple certification specialties.
CELEBRANT INSTITUTE
The Officiant Academy: The academy provides training for individuals seeking to perform marriage ceremonies, focusing on the legal and ceremonial aspects of officiating. Their courses are designed to guide you through the steps of preparing and performing marriage ceremonies.
OFFICIANT ACADEMY
Before enrolling in any course, it's essential to research the specific legal requirements for officiants in your jurisdiction, as these can vary. Some regions may require additional credentials or registrations beyond the training provided by these organizations.
Museums, etc, in the UK quite often rely on an army of unpaid volunteers, and volunteering is a great way to keep active and forge new connections, if you’re so inclined 😊
The money has come up quite a bit for school bus driver. In Minnesota... $29.00 an hour w/ experience. May depend on location. Work can be part-time, as needed. Big bus, small bus and van work. Charters for extra money. Generally have a number of days off and Summers off. Can collect unemployment, with conditions.
Kudos to you for driving a school bus in Minnesota. (Brrr) I drive a school bus in the Chicago suburbs.
Thank you Margaret. This really has some great ideas. ❤
I'm 62 and I start feeling a bit tired of language teaching for adults. I tried to quit last year but my boss convinced me to stay. So I will teach a bit longer. My house is old but with a separate studio. It has been an Airbnb for ten years now. I'm breeding Retrievers in a Club. After a long break it would be nice to start breeding Ragdoll cats again. I want to make my house an asset.
Thanks
They need people at the theatre for lighting rehearsals. You do have to be able to stand in one spot for a prolonged period of time.
I love to read outload and tried to see if I could read stories to the kids in the Library but they have a service they go through to provide VOLUNTEERS that have been vested.😔
@@tammiepulley7167 Thanks, yes, I have had security clearances before, but my point was that it's a volunteer situation and they don't pay. Maybe I'll check out the school system. Thanks for all your advice and the great video!
I teach archery at a rec center
I would like to sell quilts I make. Not sure where to put them on social media. These will be $500 plus starting with twin size.
Substitute teaching esp. in high school because they are so independent. The main teacher leaves plans with the students now on their computers. I sub for a high school and I’m just a glorified sitter because I don’t teach.I just monitor the students to make sure they’re on task. It pays from $80 to $120 a day.
Thank you very much ❤ great suggestions and ideas .
I didn’t quite understand the last one ? That’s the one most I’d love to get more information. I couldn’t quite understand the name ? Efficient ? Is that correct ? Do you have a link or contact information?
Greeting what was the last one that you mention?
I think it is an Officiant.
I've never seen those kinds of jobs available.
Sooooooo Lucky....
No More Co- Workers
Can you advise how do voice over work without tech I want to just walk into a studio and get paid .Thanks
Where do I find the course for an Efficient? Please advise.
