Unless they meet at some gay community centre or coffee shops. I am old school too, I met one of my exes at a coffee shop in the gayborhood in Vancouver in the late ‘90s….we literally had to give our numbers on a piece of paper to call each other….i guess that’s what I consider to be meeting someone organically 25 years ago. Many people said they have been rejected but think about it, how many have we rejected others in our lives. Many complained that relationships are not long lasting, then how much efforts have we put in during those relationships we had. We complain but we should self reflect at the same time on how we behave. It’s always easier to point fingers but maybe we should pause and think in what ways can we improve so that we can attract the person we want and treasure him/her once there and lowering our expectations. I am middle age man myself (45yo) and I know the feeling. However, I have a new goals in life now. I’m just focusing on my career, saving plenty of money for my comfortable future retirement and my health. I can’t denied I felt the loneliness and stuff, but I feel more peaceful and happier 😊

The ageism is real in the gay world. I am 54 and rejected so many time even when I was younger. Bathouses provided some solace in my younger years but I guess when you get older, you find some comfort in looking within yourself more. Kudos to you and your channel.

51 here Toronto was the best in the 1990s so many good bars now so many good places gone and closed. Ya its a lonely life especially when good friends are gone out you life for no aperant reason. Sometime better be alone than deal with drama.
@@dannymiller1950 Hi Danny. I came here from Vancouver in 2002. I did go to the bars clubbing the first few years. Then I got into a 5 year relationship in 2007. I feel so out of touch with the gay community, because I just work a lot and my social life is minimal and not in the gayborhood at all. I used to know more gay people and friends in Vancouver in the gay community back in the 90s, but I grew out of that phase. It’s a very different middle age gay life I am living now. Take care. ❤️😊

@davidchase1222 I feel the same way you do. I'm 64 and I can go for long periods without sex now. I think if I were still in a big city like I was over 14 years ago I would be more active. It was good to move to the country for a while but now I am anxious to get back to city life. Dating in a small town sucks so I quit over 3 years ago There aren't any good prospects anyway. I don't know what city you're in but I use to frequent Steamworks in Berkeley CA. I thought maybe you were at the same B.H There are no B.H. in Louisiana and in northern Louisiana not many interesting men either. While I was in California I had a great time and I do miss it but my B.H. days are over as well. When I take a visit to California . again I will go to Steamworks to look for old friends.

@@winglee1976I won't lie there are no bath houses in Louisiana so I had to give them up and I must say it was time. However I met good friends at the B.H. in California that I still keep in contact with. When I visit Cali I am sure I will go to Steamworks to see what's going on. I had some real nice trade there and it would be great to run into familiar faces again. I actually had good rapport with about 4 or 5 guys I met. We became fast friends. Yes I have fond memories. Thanks for the video Wing - the steam room and sauna are filthy at Steamworks, especially with germs which are invisible to the eye. The hot tub and jacuzzi are over chlorinated and terrible for the skin, and often people urinate and defecate in them. Going to the bathhouse has destroyed my self-esteem because it is an endless cycle of rejection and harassent by people you don't want to hook up with. But I keep going back despite knowing how unhygienic the place is. Going often you quickly realize it's the same people there who haunt the place regularly.

Know the feeling I'm in my early 60's and I'm experiencing the same situation nice to know that others are dealing with the same issues. But all of us will be okay. We're just having a moment.
What is your passion in life? In a lot of situations, it is best to be alone but also enjoy life at its best. We have limited time on this planet so perhaps we can use whatever time to do the things we want. Along the way while doing the things you like you might find the right one. That would be the icing on the cake. I do believe that if you take your time and let nature takes its course you will find true meaning in life

im 64 y/o and been living single since 16 years old,98% of the time . i seldom get lonely .its not even in my vocabulary. im catholic ,so i attend Mass every Sunday for more than half of my life . Ive prayed to God to give me a partner ,but he has not answered it yet or ever . I live it up to Him . Meanwhile ,I play around ,but never force them what they do not want to do .Yes ,I pay them ,since they heterosexual and never been with another man in their lives . I have only few friends ,who are mostly hetero . im still working and saving money .when its time to retire ,I will spend my remaining days with possibly one or two young men ,depending on my budget , who will take good care of me till my last breath ,when its time to cross over . Maybe you need not just physical encounter,but spiritual ,as well .

I think this is more common than many older men realize. I’m 72 & have not had any real intimacy with another man in way too many years. But I do have a nice furry companion rescue dog that I’ve had for 15 years he’s still going, definitely takes the sting out of the loneliness. Also praying & having faith in God for His will not mine. I am not a religious fanatic but I do enjoy books on how to become more spiritual and I do have some close friends that I connect with socially. But I have to admit my biggest and best comfort is my dog. I know not everyone can own a dog depending on their living situation. He definitely is the best things that ever happened to me.

The whole problem of these feelings making you feel low is due to many factors: 1) fear to be with yourself only as people around you has generated the mentality that you need to be someone every time. 2) materialism and only making material/ physical pleasure as the only goal of time. 3) being alone and instead of thinking on other things in life that are much worth than sex- 4) not spending time with friends and family members like parents, siblings, near cousins, friends.
I feel for you, i have had a few rejections from the past and had rejected a few as well. As they say life is unfair but you are just fine and i love the level of your maturity. I agree with you in saying a lot has changed from your perspective when it comes to going on places such as the bathhouse for sex. We are almost of the same age and has reached the same maturity of thinking. I wish you all the love and success.

I understand you because I am also a gay middle aged man, and it is not easy at all. I never will totally understand why gay relationships are very complex but they are ot at least for me they are. I never done bath house and probably never will tho. I am too scared of that.

@ I think personally since I have had several LTR throughout my 20-30s, that I know exactly what I want and don’t want when it comes to the boyfriend/Mr Right check list. So most of the time even I find it almost impossible to check off the entire list, even if there is mutual attraction and sexual chemistry….there is other things to sort out if I was to date or have a relationship with that person….then there is the common obstacle of open relationship that make me lost interest immediately. So that’s why I am still single by choice sometimes.
I am 62, and I really identified with the video. I have been single for 15 years. Dated a few guys, but it seems it wasn't a good fit both sexually and mentally. They were nice guys and probably would have made good friends.

I find it harder to date or have a relationship in my 40s now, because I had several LTRs in my 20-30s, so I have very specific criteria list to check off to date someone and hopefully lead to LTR. As for casual hookups, it’s more just about the physical attraction and a bit of personality or interests similarity helps too. Hello from Vancouver. Your videos speak to me. The whole gay scene is and always has been so off putting to me. I only went to a bathhouse once and although it was fun, the whole time I was like "what are you doing here? this is not your scene" There are many quality guys out there, just hard to find one and even when you do, rare that you are both compatible and attracted to each other. I am just slightly older than you and my attitude is - yes, it would be great to find someone, but I am not actively looking. Just living my life enjoying my job, friends, family, pets and hobbies. If it happens, it happens, if not oh well.

My last relationship never led to sex, but went into a break-up without him explaining to me why. I was lied to about a lot of things. I had never done the app thing since. There is nothing wrong with being alone. You have to learn to love yourself first!

Always do that which makes you happy and makes you feel good. Don't JUDGE yourself, you are a human being and 'we' need human companionship from time to time. When you need it, you need it and that's all there is to it . . . you don't need to justify your actions to anyone! Be happy and enjoy life, enjoy yourself . . .
I run into that a lot these days bro. I want passion. Almost no one wants to include the kissing anymore. Fortunately, a few months ago I met someone who likes what I like. I don't get to be with him as often as I prefer but, it feels good to know we can get together, when we both have the time. He's not everything I want but; I feel he's enough. I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth. I'm just feeling grateful that I have access to him.

Loneliness came a LONG TIME before he became middle aged. Problem…… trying to meet people on sites like Grindr and such. You’ve wasted years. I’m well into my 70s and NEVER BEEN LONELY. You’re lonely for life unfortunately. 🙁🙁🙁🙁

I would like to suggest meditation practice/mind training. Find a meditation teacher or join a meditation class. Meditation makes the mind peaceful and content being alone...aloneness is different from loneliness. Yes, sometimes we need good friends but appreciating solitude is healthy. With meditation practice you begun to see that loneliness is a temporary mental state. Be well, be happy, be peaceful.

I totally agree Christopher! I thought this was a fictional short story, an "art house" film (maybe because of the great music). So I began watching it as such. But as I was nearing the conclusion, after he left the bathhouse, I came to the realization that this was "real" -- a first person account of being a middle-age gay man in a big city. And it made me SO SAD! There is loneliness throughout modern society, but perhaps no group more so that single older gay men. And to Wing Lee: do not give up hope. Learn to enjoy your own company and hobbies and interests ... and then strive to find people to enjoy those things with. I relate to you. But I am 64 years old living in a small city in the USA, far away from any "gay community." And i have been single for about 18 years. At least you are a young (to me) 48 year old living in Toronto, one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world. You have the 2nd half of your life to look forward to. I am glad and happy to hear that you thought my video was an arthouse short film at first….maybe it’s because I work in the film industry and also a film buff that automatically make my videos like a short film in terms of editing, music and pace etc. Nothing was exaggerated in the video, it’s exactly how I felt and experienced as a single middle aged gay man in Toronto. It’s a reality that hits so close to home for many gay men, not necessarily middle aged ones. I do try to live my life to the fullest even if no man is in my life romantically or sexually. This particular vlog was to convey how sometimes I still need and want sex. I had been able to handle being alone and no sex with anyone, like the Covid period at least 1 year only resorted to solo sex. So many things you said resonated with me....I haven't been to a bathhouse in well over 10 years and won't likely ever again. Your story was sad and I see alot.of myself in you. I have imperfections and flaws and acne scarring and I'm afraid to get close to anyone and I've learnt to be my own company and not associate in the gay community anyone as it's a very bitchy superficial scene and the way the gay lifestyle is. I have guys interested in me but until I learn to love or even at least like myself I don't want to open my heart or my pants to anyone who will use me! For the last 14 years I've stayed celebrate because it's easier than getting used or getting my heart broken!

The ageism is real in the gay world. I am 54 and rejected so many time even when I was younger. Bathouses provided some solace in my younger years but I guess when you get older, you find some comfort in looking within yourself more. Kudos to you and your channel.

51 here Toronto was the best in the 1990s so many good bars now so many good places gone and closed. Ya its a lonely life especially when good friends are gone out you life for no aperant reason. Sometime better be alone than deal with drama.
@@dannymiller1950 Hi Danny. I came here from Vancouver in 2002. I did go to the bars clubbing the first few years. Then I got into a 5 year relationship in 2007. I feel so out of touch with the gay community, because I just work a lot and my social life is minimal and not in the gayborhood at all. I used to know more gay people and friends in Vancouver in the gay community back in the 90s, but I grew out of that phase. It’s a very different middle age gay life I am living now. Take care. ❤️😊

@davidchase1222 I feel the same way you do. I'm 64 and I can go for long periods without sex now. I think if I were still in a big city like I was over 14 years ago I would be more active. It was good to move to the country for a while but now I am anxious to get back to city life. Dating in a small town sucks so I quit over 3 years ago There aren't any good prospects anyway. I don't know what city you're in but I use to frequent Steamworks in Berkeley CA. I thought maybe you were at the same B.H There are no B.H. in Louisiana and in northern Louisiana not many interesting men either. While I was in California I had a great time and I do miss it but my B.H. days are over as well. When I take a visit to California . again I will go to Steamworks to look for old friends.

@@winglee1976I won't lie there are no bath houses in Louisiana so I had to give them up and I must say it was time. However I met good friends at the B.H. in California that I still keep in contact with. When I visit Cali I am sure I will go to Steamworks to see what's going on. I had some real nice trade there and it would be great to run into familiar faces again. I actually had good rapport with about 4 or 5 guys I met. We became fast friends. Yes I have fond memories. Thanks for the video Wing - the steam room and sauna are filthy at Steamworks, especially with germs which are invisible to the eye. The hot tub and jacuzzi are over chlorinated and terrible for the skin, and often people urinate and defecate in them. Going to the bathhouse has destroyed my self-esteem because it is an endless cycle of rejection and harassent by people you don't want to hook up with. But I keep going back despite knowing how unhygienic the place is. Going often you quickly realize it's the same people there who haunt the place regularly.

What is your passion in life? In a lot of situations, it is best to be alone but also enjoy life at its best. We have limited time on this planet so perhaps we can use whatever time to do the things we want. Along the way while doing the things you like you might find the right one. That would be the icing on the cake. I do believe that if you take your time and let nature takes its course you will find true meaning in life

im 64 y/o and been living single since 16 years old,98% of the time . i seldom get lonely .its not even in my vocabulary. im catholic ,so i attend Mass every Sunday for more than half of my life . Ive prayed to God to give me a partner ,but he has not answered it yet or ever . I live it up to Him . Meanwhile ,I play around ,but never force them what they do not want to do .Yes ,I pay them ,since they heterosexual and never been with another man in their lives . I have only few friends ,who are mostly hetero . im still working and saving money .when its time to retire ,I will spend my remaining days with possibly one or two young men ,depending on my budget , who will take good care of me till my last breath ,when its time to cross over . Maybe you need not just physical encounter,but spiritual ,as well .

I think this is more common than many older men realize. I’m 72 & have not had any real intimacy with another man in way too many years. But I do have a nice furry companion rescue dog that I’ve had for 15 years he’s still going, definitely takes the sting out of the loneliness. Also praying & having faith in God for His will not mine. I am not a religious fanatic but I do enjoy books on how to become more spiritual and I do have some close friends that I connect with socially. But I have to admit my biggest and best comfort is my dog. I know not everyone can own a dog depending on their living situation.

The whole problem of these feelings making you feel low is due to many factors: 1) fear to be with yourself only as people around you has generated the mentality that you need to be someone every time. 2) materialism and only making material/ physical pleasure as the only goal of time. 3) being alone and instead of thinking on other things in life that are much worth than sex- 4) not spending time with friends and family members like parents, siblings, near cousins, friends.

I understand you because I am also a gay middle aged man, and it is not easy at all. I never will totally understand why gay relationships are very complex but they are ot at least for me they are. I never done bath house and probably never will tho. I am too scared of that.

@ I think personally since I have had several LTR throughout my 20-30s, that I know exactly what I want and don’t want when it comes to the boyfriend/Mr Right check list. So most of the time even I find it almost impossible to check off the entire list, even if there is mutual attraction and sexual chemistry….there is other things to sort out if I was to date or have a relationship with that person….then there is the common obstacle of open relationship that make me lost interest immediately. So that’s why I am still single by choice sometimes.

I find it harder to date or have a relationship in my 40s now, because I had several LTRs in my 20-30s, so I have very specific criteria list to check off to date someone and hopefully lead to LTR. As for casual hookups, it’s more just about the physical attraction and a bit of personality or interests similarity helps too. Hello from Vancouver. Your videos speak to me. The whole gay scene is and always has been so off putting to me. I only went to a bathhouse once and although it was fun, the whole time I was like "what are you doing here? this is not your scene" There are many quality guys out there, just hard to find one and even when you do, rare that you are both compatible and attracted to each other. I am just slightly older than you and my attitude is - yes, it would be great to find someone, but I am not actively looking. Just living my life enjoying my job, friends, family, pets and hobbies. If it happens, it happens, if not oh well.

My last relationship never led to sex, but went into a break-up without him explaining to me why. I was lied to about a lot of things. I had never done the app thing since. There is nothing wrong with being alone. You have to learn to love yourself first!

I identify with you. Things change, people change. Also older and alone too but I find 'going back' makes things worse for me at least. Understandably focus is on youth and fitness but it goes away as we get older. I've been stood up too often on grindr so I stopped that. I run into that a lot these days bro. I want passion. Almost no one wants to include the kissing anymore. Fortunately, a few months ago I met someone who likes what I like. I don't get to be with him as often as I prefer but, it feels good to know we can get together, when we both have the time. He's not everything I want but; I feel he's enough. I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth. I'm just feeling grateful that I have access to him.

I would like to suggest meditation practice/mind training. Find a meditation teacher or join a meditation class. Meditation makes the mind peaceful and content being alone...aloneness is different from loneliness. Yes, sometimes we need good friends but appreciating solitude is healthy. With meditation practice you begun to see that loneliness is a temporary mental state. Be well, be happy, be peaceful.

I totally agree Christopher! I thought this was a fictional short story, an "art house" film (maybe because of the great music). So I began watching it as such. But as I was nearing the conclusion, after he left the bathhouse, I came to the realization that this was "real" -- a first person account of being a middle-age gay man in a big city. And it made me SO SAD! There is loneliness throughout modern society, but perhaps no group more so that single older gay men.
And to Wing Lee: do not give up hope. Learn to enjoy your own company and hobbies and interests ... and then strive to find people to enjoy those things with. I relate to you. But I am 64 years old living in a small city in the USA, far away from any "gay community." And i have been single for about 18 years. At least you are a young (to me) 48 year old living in Toronto, one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world. You have the 2nd half of your life to look forward to. I am glad and happy to hear that you thought my video was an arthouse short film at first….maybe it’s because I work in the film industry and also a film buff that automatically make my videos like a short film in terms of editing, music and pace etc. Nothing was exaggerated in the video, it’s exactly how I felt and experienced as a single middle aged gay man in Toronto. It’s a reality that hits so close to home for many gay men, not necessarily middle aged ones. I do try to live my life to the fullest even if no man is in my life romantically or sexually. This particular vlog was to convey how sometimes I still need and want sex. I had been able to handle being alone and no sex with anyone, like the Covid period at least 1 year only resorted to solo sex.

Hey Wing, WOW you seen my post!! I'm shocked!! I wrote a HUGE post that I'm sure you would have loved and I really should have wrote it on MS Word first. The reason YT hates me if because of my posts about Trudeau. I never swore or anything in my posts...just told the simple truths and it was clearly too much for them to handle lol. I have to get to bed right now but in the morning I'll make a draft on Word and SAVE it thins time.

Yes there is community guidelines to follow, even as a new UA-camr myself, I have to be careful about my contents….and unaware of it in the beginning causing several of my videos to be age restricted…🤦🏻♂️ anyways. So many things you said resonated with me....I haven't been to a bathhouse in well over 10 years and won't likely ever again. Your story was sad and I see alot.of myself in you. I have imperfections and flaws and acne scarring and I'm afraid to get close to anyone and I've learnt to be my own company and not associate in the gay community anyone as it's a very bitchy superficial scene and the way the gay lifestyle is. I have guys interested in me but until I learn to love or even at least like myself I don't want to open my heart or my pants to anyone who will use me!
For the last 14 years I've stayed celebrate because it's easier than getting used or getting my heart broken!
