@@flyerthantheg6 Nah I was curious so I googled to verify. She met him in 2013 and started dating not long after. So she was dating almost throughout her entire senior elite career.
She said she did not date because they did not physically see each other for these 3-4 years really. He was training in the US and she was in Moscow. They saw each other only a couple of times a year. She explains in her other interview that this helped her (that he lived far away), she did not need to run after the rehearsals every day to see him.
Margarita seems to be a very nice person. Still, I feel sorry for Yana. She won so many medals, was always so confident, sadly, she had an injury which weakened her. Margarita never won any major AA title, except for the most important one: the Olympic gold. And now she is invited to master classes, important interviews, etc., and poor Yana is forgotten and neglected. :(
They are both absolutely amazing however I feel tat you are misinformed saying margarita never won anything of importance before the Olympics is absolutely wrong yes Yana won more European and worlds than her however she won a lot of grand prix. In total margarita won 28 golds while Yana won 26. I think that it is important to remember that Irina won't allow choose just anyone to compete in the Olympics. Both these women had substantial careers and are incredible in their own right. I think it is important to celebrate the fact. You are correct that what happened to yana was unjustified however it is the reality The olympics is the most famous competition so more people are going to know it. it is only natural that the winner get lots of attention. I think its important to stand up for yana howver we must be careful not to put someone down in order to lift another up. They are both amazing athletes and I thank you for bringing attention to Yana
Do we know if Yana even enjoyed the spotlight? I mean even the Over the Limit documentary focused on Mamun despite Yana being the favourite to win the Olympics. Is it possible Yana may not want all the press that Magarita seems to like?

I'm sorry but Margarita deserved the gold medal in Rio 2016. Both of them did well but I prefer Margarita's routine and how she executed it.
Prefer subtitles rather than the horrible screechy narrator.
