The freewheel is a saviour! In snow, on grass and on dirt roads! And on cobblestones!

    It’s snowing in Tokyo today.
I felt like I gained so much muscle just going around the block to the convenience store. 😂

This is the video I’ve been waiting for. Where I live, we get about 300-500 inches of snow per year and it stays there for roughly 7 months of the year.

I have the smart drive by permobil. My Medicaid paid for it. It’s the mx2t. It’s fabulous and can be used in any type of weather and you won’t void the warranty. It goes up to 15 miles before needing a full charge and only takes around 4 hours to fully charge as well as it is easily removed to get in and out of cars. It goes up to 12.5 miles per hour and yes you can use it in the snow.

You can put binders on your wheels, strap em 15 - 20 cm apart, they help against slipping. When the snow/ice is gone cut them of.

Advice for keeping you posture in a chair? I keep finding myself slouching and leaning forward 😅 I’m trying to work on my posture as it is because my conditions really mess with it.

Thank you for the tips Gem. I felt more confident to battle the snow today because of your tips. I watched and was prepared to go out in the snow alone today (first time ever) but the hospital phoned and did a phone appointment instead so I didn't get to use the tips from you but will remember everything you said. Thank u

In New England we've been hit with 24+ (or even 30+) inches of snow before. A chair user would pretty much be stuck, literally.

The only way that you could really go out in snow is if the area was plowed first, otherwise, you are stuck.

I have the freewheel and use it when there is no snow as well. It’s great for uneven terrain and for really difficult terrain it also makes things easier for someone pushing you.

    Hey there I have a question :)
I know that there are triers to roll in the forest but I have troubles with the smaller wheels cause I just get stuck in the dirt cause of those smaller wheels do you have any tips for rolling on your own in the forest with a wheelchair? I really miss going in the forest so thats why I’m asking

My partners in a wheelchair and got snow stuck in his small front wheels had to get someone to help push him through the snow, where are your pink grips from ? I think it would be helpful to get some for him! 😊

When I try to get a freewheel in a Italian shop or even on Amazon.it I understand how much this country is still on 18th century.
My wheelchair has German made power wheels and are indipendly slippery on ice, resulting on dangerous if not impossible to make a tour outside.

The secret is not to get a wet-bum.
May be easier on wheels than on two heels
    (two crutches, as I am).

Gemma - spokz.co.uk sells Fat Wheels that are 4 inches wide for outdoor use in snow, mud, sand etc. They cost a bit over £500 a pair, but they look a good long term investment. Also, wider casters would be a good idea because they have a wider footprint on the ground, spreading the weight around.

awesome advice thank you. Im hopefully changing my castors (the ones the chair originally came with) soon. they are a tad wider. x
