I think she was maybe trying to close the door, to stop him getting out. That would be trying to avoid a violent confrontation, but it didn't work out. I'm the first to complain about police mistakes, since the stakes can be so high. But I also recognise that it's too easy to judge them, from split-second decisions they sometimes have to make.

As a female police academy dropout, I don’t think women should be police officers. They showed us videos of a female police officer doing EXACTLY what she did and another male officer coming in to handle the job. Most women can’t the job ( me included)
Woman to woman, kudos to you for trying and also for realizing the job wasn’t for you. Walking away from something like that takes a lot of self awareness, which is definitely a strength! From what I’ve seen, women police officers can be absolutely badass and make up for their lack of physical strength with weapons training, intelligence, problem solving abilities, and people skills. But 9 times out of 10, they are completely ineffective and often put their male coworkers in more danger. It’s disappointing that the message being given to young women today is that you have to act like a man to be considered a “strong woman.” Which to me is the exact opposite of being pro-women! Our strengths are unique from men (there will always be exceptions, of course) but just as important to society and we should embrace that!

When the 911 dispatcher got annoyed with the caller asking for a clear answer to "do you know him," it reminded me of a chat I had with my town's marshal in which he mentioned that what might seem like a random act of violence almost always turns out to be personal.
It seemed to me like the female officer made the mistake by getting close to the guy as he was getting out of the truck, causing not only the stabbing but causing them to have to shoot the guy. Isn't there a procedure where you maintain distance and make the guy get on the ground with his hands behind his head BEFORE you close the distance?

It seemed to me like the female officer made the mistake by getting close to the guy as he was getting out of the truck, causing not only the stabbing but causing them to have to shoot the guy. Isn't there a procedure where you maintain distance and make the guy get on the ground with his hands behind his head BEFORE you close the distance?
