It's not perfect to have Chris Diamantopoulos' Mickey Mouse at Disneyland California. I am more comfortable with *Bret Iwan's* Mickey Mouse at Disneyland California, while having *Chris Diamantopoulos'* Mickey Mouse at Walt Disney World Florida.
I might be missing something, but the only differences I noticed were the queue and a few details with the sets and layout. They’re pretty identical overall. I guess if we’re including the full queue experience in the decision, then Disneyland’s is better. If they made it so the cars went around the tornado instead of just moving by it, it would’ve a huge improvement.
I liked the added detail the imagineers added with the different lines Goofy says when his engine reconnects with the train, although I wish they had recorded more with references to more of the cartoons such as "and that's how Mickey won the three-legged race with Peg-Leg Pete!"
The authentic transition sounds they added to the Disneyland version as you exit the cartoon world and enter the real world really makes the attraction more special, imo
I'm confused about the entire concept. So Toontown in general is supposed to be the cartoon world of Mickey and Friends, right? In this world, Mickey is also an actor who stars in films. The queue for this ride clearly establishes that the Mickey films and shorts are theatrical productions within that world, telling us that objects from the films are set pieces rather than real things. "Perfect Picnic" is one such film; the actors Mickey and Minnie are playing characters Mickey and Minnie, but within the world of Toontown, it's fiction. So when the character Goofy blows a hole in the screen, are we now moving into a DIFFERENT cartoon world? The world of the stories that the actor Mickey is presenting? It's toon-ception! In Hollywood Studios, we're in the real world and Mickey and Friends are characters in the film we're watching. It makes a lot more sense. I don't understand why they brought over the "step into the cartoon world through a movie theater" concept when you're already in the cartoon world. Couldn't they have just started off in the barn with the train?
Unironically, this might be my favorite ride queue. It’s the perfect mix of cheesy Disney and attention-to-detail Disney. I don’t think there’s ever been a ride I’ve been excited to get stuck in the queue for before, but this might be the one! I personally have enjoyed the ride as it’s own thing since I rode it at WDW, when separated from the context of having replaced GMR and not 100% fitting into the Chinese theater. This really does it the service it deserves and is, in my opinion, the most rightful place for this ride.
I'm not a massive fan of this ride on either coast, but I can appreciate how they were able to shoehorn this into landlocked Disneyland without removing an existing ride. Disney World has all the land they could ever want and they still feel the need to replace attractions instead of just building new ones and adding capacity. This version's queue is a big win too!
@scottyskywalker5768 and a gift shop... the most rarest thing to happen, a full on ride replaces a gift shop, unexpected but welcoming as it came with one so we lost nothing
My favorite detail in the queue is from Pluto's Christmas Tree - the fireplace mantle, the little Santas, and the beard left lying there next to the bald Santa.
I will just imagine that for this version of the ride your still in the cartoon world of Mickey Mouse but not in the specific world of that cartoon and once you enter your apart of the cartoon . Instead at Hollywood studios you actually have not entered the cartoon world yet but once you step into the film at Hollywood studios you’re in it. Yes it’s very complicated.
Having gone on the ride, I really like the consistent shifts between a relaxed mellow tone into frenzied chaos at any given moment. The way that it makes it seem like the screen itself seemingly breaks to allow you into the ride added to the immersive feel.
That was so much fun to watch! I doubt I'll ever be able to visit Disneyland again, but videos like this make me feel like I'm really there. Thank you for the video trip! :)
The queue alone made me miss WDW's Toon Town. They shouldn't have gotten rid of it! Also, the Carried Away poster at the end of the queue is a wonderful tribute to Russi Taylor (as that was her last role as Minnie before she passed).
technically her last roll was recording the audio for this ride, but i stand by the fact that carried away was the perfect short for her last cartoon performance
It’s not the worst but I’ve seen better. Each room looks so empty apart from a lot of stuff on the walls. Mystic manor at Hong Kong is better because it added physical sets and stuff to look at in the middle of each room
14:25 Goofy is waving the wrong way. They could have reanimated him, because they animated the new part just before that in the tunnel. Weird that no imagineers caught that.
I noticed the volcano scene going into the waterfall was longer so that all four cars would be able to see it. In the HS version the last car goes straight to the waterfall scene.
I think that it’d be interesting if Disney Adventure World (formerly Walt Disney Studios Park) would build this attraction as part of a new MickeyVille area (a Parisan version of Mickey’s Toontown).

Does Disneyland version of Mickey and Minnie’s runaway railway got a Easter egg aka reference to delta dreamflight before it was changed to buzz lightyear asgroblaster as shown on 2:12?
Seeing this makes me wish they had kept and updated the Great Movie Ride at WDW and made this a DL-only attraction. This seems to fit better in Toon Town than Hollywood Studios.
I agree, the Disneyland version of the ride is a more enjoyable experience than the one at Hollywood Studios. Also, I could see this ride come to Walt Disney Studios Park as part of a new Toontown section.
@@justinchavez9530In France there’s a theater that Walt Disney stumbled upon during his trip in Europe in 1935 called the Lord Bryon Cinema which shows a hour of Mickey Mouse & Silly Symphony cartoons called L”Heure Joyeuse de Mickey (Mickey’s Happy Hour).
