Hi
I got your "ad" persay
I can't remember the last time I have been so simultaneously excited and worried about a remake. 4 feels like the line where, sure, there's some stuff that could be improved and it clearly shows its age but 90% of it still holds up to this day and plays shockingly well. Like, no radical changes would be needed, but they obviously have to make radical changes to justify a full remake and not just a remaster.

Found a gun for you Jacob
Since you're here talking about Resident Evil, and i know you're Jewish from the Golem Video...
[Nice touch by the way,
i played Golem Dead - Golem Alive with my father when i was Little... a Travel in Time and Memories.. for Everyone]
So..
I wanted to bring to yours Jewish-Hebraic Attention:
In the Last Resident Evil game, the one with Lady Dimytrescū, Eisenberg, Donna Benev(i)ento.
You get Thrown in this Foreign Territories, Strangely Somehow in Romanian's Carpathians, far far away from the previous Episodes, almost without any Logical or Extensively Expressed Reasons.
Now I know that maybe this will sound strange to you..maybe you don't have those in the Synagogue or "Getto-Style" Community where you grew up..
But!
If you wait a second for Checking their Most relaxed, not Monstrously-Mutated nor Nervous, Lineaments you'll find out that Many of those.. almost everyone actually, except for Murnau who is not Distinguishable
( he does look a bit like a Eggman to me... but might be wrong)..
Didn't Anyone Noticed that Every sigle One of them have Jewish-Ebraic Lineages?
Of Once more widely Expressed Semitic-Origins Dinasties of whole Europe..
'For The Very Least'..
It is Just me or the Protagonist, only shown in Face in a Fan-Made Video where they broke the boundaries to seek for his Face's Models, really really Looks like a Central European/Northern Italian Caucasian Man.
His Wife itself it's Everything but Jewish...MIa I mean.
The "Baron" fat as a Pig who only Eat Genetically-Mutated Pigs that provides him Weaponry and "Counseling for Biological Safety" could realistically being Himself a Kaiser's Related Servant who was grafted to the
'Most Ignoble of Houses'

And that fat betrayer bastard should be, even Hypothetically, of a Lower Rank than Dimytrescū Herself..thus Subordinated...
...Passed the whole Story Trying to Killing every single one of them without Getting Directly Involved and without Moving anyone of His Fats Piglet Fingers..sound strangely Close to the Kaiser Attitudes during both of the World Wars..that Little Betrayer Bastard.
So....
Doesn't Sound Strange to you..‽
....At All?
I know for you might be harder to get those Genetical Traits, not like they are so much Expressed Really, 'Mostly By Now', in Europe and Through the World in General.
But if you take Lady Dimytrescū
(Or her daughters)
and Eisenberg Example
[Nothing except Propaganda take out the fact that Bohr & Eisenberg in reality could have been Friends and able to understand each other..for Previous Reason]
Lady Dimytrescū could be like a Taller Carpathian's version of the Queen's Heritage... Queen of UK... being Herself of a 'Before Exodus' Hebraic Dinastic Line..
I know also this could sound Strange for an American, but Once Highest European Nobilities Do count(ed) for Being Related to Ancient Jewish-Hebraic Direct Lineages in considering for the Acquisition of Highest Levels of Powers or Noblesse.
It was Easier also for the Church's Monks and the Rabbis to considering a Confactual proof of appartenance to a Really Faithful, Really Old Dinasty.
(Much more Easier than the multitude of shorts, fats, balds bastards related to Roman Senators who nobilitated themselves proclaiming of being Descendents of Eracles...you wouldn't believe how many they were.. and how fat, how dwarf, how balds they all were!)
So Taken as Certain the fact that they are all Semitic origin People with Jewish-Hebraic Lineaments...
{If you still don't quite belive that, after all of this, you're part Dwarf..and I still wouldn't believe you're part Jewish..any regardless..
Almost Omnivalent..
Almost.}

that they all are Depicted as Violent Inhumane Insane Monsters‽

"Süss the Jew"

during The Full Boom of the Shoah‽
Wasn't that movie sponsored by the Same Gobbles who personally stated to Friz Lang:
" It is Us who Choose who is Jew".
[Implying it wasn't a Religious Related Hate.. but a Racial ones.
Motivated more from Shared Hate brought by an Overexpression of Nerves than from the apparent social Status or Descendance..
A "Racial-Cleanings" Driven by Malignancy more than Historical Premises (...Japanese Indeed did something before doing it just with Octopuses)]
Isn't All the Story Trying to Depicting Those people as the pure 'Evil' in "Resident Evil" and the True Monsters who With Bioterrorist Intentions Destroyed their self Humanity and the Humanlikness of all the Surrounding Villagers..
[Only to Ending with the Majority of Players still Partaking for the Monsters (mostly because the Lady Dimytrescū's Daughters were sexy as A Pale shade of Naked skin under the Moonlight, and Donna Benev(i)ento is so beautiful it should be Hidden from Public Unwanted Views)]
All in a period of Time where the most Terrorizing and Deaths provoking Threat is indeed Bioterrorism, and Bioterrorists Intentions of Reaching a Perfection they don't know, in a way that is not possible..
Soo...
What the Jewish World in America have to Say about That?
And you think about Doudna, Racism and Fascism spreading Virally there..?

Italy it's Bicameralist Incentered on Propaganda Due and Nazi-Fascism,

France have from one Side a Racist-Filofascist, to the other Macron who isn't yet died of HIV-AZT related Death because he didn't Publicly Denounced the One Way Condition of Coexistence between Rothschild, Propaganda Due and the Kaiser-Gotha family.

Do the rest of you remember when Google had a corporate mandate to "Not Be Evil", which stayed on the books for several years - and then at some point they actually released an update of their corporate values that eliminated the "Don't Be Evil" mandate. As the soulless marketing villains say, the optics on that one were not so great.
At least they were honest about their trajectory.
I remember reading about that and marveling at how dystopian it was
The never removed it, they just moved it from the beginning of their mandate to the end.
Quick note!
Capturing VR footage is actually just as easy as capturing any game footage. It’s ONLY the Quest 2 that seems to reject being recorded or streamed as if rejecting a transplanted organ.

@@wandering_user2 Firstly, hooking it up to your PC allows you to use it as a normal WMR headset. But you cannot play Quest games on it. There are workarounds but they can cause heavy performance issues, wonky aspect ratios, and for live streaming you’ll have to do some stuff involving a phone and facebook live and oh boy get ready for your smartphone to turn into a heat bed until the stream ends. There aren’t many streams of RE4 VR, but NeoCranium’s stream of it was painful for him just as much as us. You can’t just OBS that shit.

@@maninblack3410 I'm not against VR, but not too many good ones always come out with the right potential thing that people want to shape for themselves, the problem here is not that this structure exists, but what they want to do with it.
And let's be very honest, but we all know that we are not heading towards the best future, but into a completely different world where you can forget everything that we lived from God's creation.
So, I'm a scout from germany and while you learn very quickly that american/english scouts are very different to german scouts (after you got asked the 1000th time if you sell cookies), using "I was a boyscout" as the first reasoning of why you shot guns just paralyzed my brain for a few seconds.

Yeah, I think one could.
Could one interpret the fire grenade literally?
Maybe?
And the last question: did Jacob intend for that interpretation?
There's layers of interaction and interpretation here. This emergent narrative requires flexible testing in the physical world. Does anyone know where I can find the shady merchant that will trade me incendiary grenades for old jewelry? And also the address to anything owned by Facebook?

I'm screaming. I, in all of my sleuthing never knew this.
I really liked the ending parallel between the innocent, well-intentioned village being infested by a foreign parasite to turn it into a force of destruction, just like Meta weakening the VR landscape from the inside when it just started to bloom.
The only headset I own is the Valve Index, but it really does feel like Valve only put out Alyx while Facebook Meta relentlessly pursues public mindshare while infecting us with their own specific portrait of what VR and Virtual Space should be. I’ve had friends and family ask me about the Quest and the Metaverse as Facebook sells it, but no one asks me about all of the other headsets that exist because they basically just don’t know about it. It does make me feel melancholy about the future of this technology…
Tbf Meta spends more money advertising the Quest on TV. Plus it's just plain cheaper and can run by it's own, which makes it the easiest way to get into VR gaming. I can see Meta learning some tricks from Sony with their PS exclusives, but of course way worse since they are invasive about data in general
this is spooky to me mostly because literally yesterday I was able to play a demo of my company's buisness oculous 2. its really amazing and I hate that it is. I will say that in the business editions you get a completely different and much more in depth form of customer support, as well as a really sophisticated management app where you can see the location, status, battery level, and a bunch of other aspects of every model you have in your system. you can download apps directly to the headset from a laptop in a different city. they are significantly different experiances from the consumer version, really meant for schools to be able to do demos of things that can't be demod easily (we're a nursing school and it's really useful for the students, though we're still at the stage where we have to beg teachers to waste a day or two of class figuring it out). Just wanted to add some context to that point specifically. I definietly agree that an additional $500 a unit is fucking ridiculous, though.
That additional 500 dollars is far from shocking if you’ve dealt with enterprise hardware before.
so, what i'm getting is that the buissness version is not only better privacy-wise, but interface-wise as well? or am i misreading?

This should be the golden age of VR, it should be accessible to all, hitting its stride, reaching its prime. Instead Facebook are strangling it in the crib. One of the most lucrative and revolutionary markets of not just games but of all entertainment and media is being actively destroyed by old, out-of-touch, greedy corporations desperate to reclaim lost relevance because being billionaires simply isn’t enough. What else is new
VR headsets have different hardware between them. View them more like consoles where getting something to run/function well across multiple requires deliberate ports. There's a difference between greed and costs and neither of us knows enough to tell the difference in this case.
How is this any different than a game being a PS5 exclusive? Its just like when Sony funds God of War Ragnarok and releases it on PS5 only to sell their platform. This is no different
@@arkai4087 it is different because it’s not just game exclusivity. It’s total market domination. It’s promising a metaverse they can’t deliver. It’s making people associate VR with broken promises and creepy Zuckerberg spyware that can’t be trusted. It’s actively hurting the entire perception of a still-infant industry
While I generally agree with the sentiment, corporations that do not grow will lose investor support and therefore will end up losing value. The need to grow is not only greed, but also necessary for a corporation to survive.
@@HyruleScout Then let them die.
I felt the same way when I saw the release details, I'm glad you put this video out. I ran to my friend, the only person I know with a VR setup, and I told him RE4 and RE7 had both been released on VR consoles and made him understand in no uncertain terms that we were going to play them NOW. But then they weren't on Steam. They weren't sold through a proprietary website. They were on TWO separate VR consoles, neither of which we had access to or were likely ever to own. And I deflated. We had just finished Half-Life Alex, we were both so incredibly excited about the VR future that game showed could be real, and just when it seemed to be coming true, it was snatched away by facebook of all things. We all grew up with the console wars, but VR is something new, it could have been something different, something better. But as we both sat there in that unsatisfying reality, we understood how wrong we were to think corporate greed ever took a day off.
re7 and re8 have pcvr mods, as well as the re2 and re3 remakes. their biggest issue however is that they are EXTREMELY demanding to run

No, no, you should definitely be the guy that complains about corporations in videos. Meta as a thing that exists now is something that genuinely makes me feel ill. It looks like they're heading down a dark path in terms of technology that connects and controls. It is extremely important to speak about this issue. Thank you for mentioning it, genuinely. And the nebula ad that I got during it was quite funny.
There is this interesting hyper awareness of brand I get when I use two devices in particular, the Quest 2 and the Steam Deck. Valve constantly impresses me with features that really shouldn't. Be it something huge like being able to fully repair the device with official parts or something smaller like the fact that it doesn't fight me when there isn't an internet connection, two things that shouldn't be a big deal yet somehow are. When I use the Quest 2, as much as I love so many of the first party games I've played as well as the versatility it has when pairing it with my PC, I don't feel...right, using it, if that makes sense. It doesn't feel mine, more so like something I'm being allowed to use as long as I participate within their walled garden and agree to my data being syphoned.
honestly the only problem i have with the steam deck is that it isn't available in my country and the problems with the quest 2, of which i know only what was exposed here, are way too many for me to consider buying it now
I don’t have an Oculus, but I feel similarly when I use a streaming service or sign up for an online subscription. The model for personal technology has shifted from ownership to access. We don’t own our digital assets, but merely rent them from corporations.

Hearing Jacob explain how he got his parents to buy RE4 for him after his bar mitzvah because 'according to the Torah I was a man' is something I have heard at least 4 times now and it has not gotten old.
There’s something morbidly hilarious about meta removing the backstory slides from the credits because, in a way, what they’re doing parallels that story in a frightening amount of ways.
Reminds me of an old Jimquisition joke "why would cooporations want a lot of money when they could have all the money?" It sucks that an amazing inventive tech like VR is being strangled into the shape of big brother so some lizard fuck can be in charge of the "next big thing"
i think the worst part about the whole oculus/meta taking RE4 and now San Andreas iirc is that VR gaming had it pretty good up until this point. most games were on steamvr or some other storefront that allowed basically everyone to buy and experience these games, even if they weren't specifically made for the console. half life alyx, boneworks, H3VR, beat saber, pistol whip-all of these truly landmark VR titles weren't locked to any specific headset. but now, we're entering the part of the unfortunate reality of vr gaming that exclusives are going to be made, even though it would be so much better for everyone if they weren't. first RE4 and San Andreas, and now RE8 for the PSVR2 specifically. it might just be Capcom and Rockstart making weird decisions with their IPs, but i genuinely fear that as we progress more into VR, we're going to have to pick and choose between what headsets we get not just for the hardware and the price, but for the exclusives.
Don't forget RE4 Remake for the PSVR2 too! Not to mention you'd need a PS5 on top of a PSVR2...
But well said, I couldn't agree more with everything you've said. Sad times for us passionate VR guys on PC
I am of the impression, that this too will pass, the hardware gets cheaper and also other companies will grasp, besides Valve is still heavily investing in the market.
Tbf, this was a given if you wanted vr to progress. Every other industry does this so it’s no surprise it would come to VR now it’s getting more popular

As someone who's played every RE and scoffed at the main story. That ending illustration sequence at the end of RE4 was really impactful, and it was frustrating because I wondered where that level of depth was in the main story line
VR has always been something I was excited about, and I genuinely love playing games in VR. BUT I felt exactly the same about "meta" and the soul crushing reality of the capitalist framework in which I have to participate simply so I can go "woah, I'm IN the game!!"... I get this twisted feeling of disgust and shame at the same time I feel like a cool video game guy. I don't know where to go with this comment either, but I guess I just wanted to say you aren't alone on this one.
VR is a great symbol for the modern state of the Industry, over blown, expensive, false hype, sub par, anti consumer, etc.
It's a shame that the future of VR is so heavily influenced by the worst of the tech overlords.
Here's hoping Valve can kick up the competition.
My hype for VR died years ago just as they were announced. What killed my interest? Exclusive titles for each VR headset. That was it. I'm done. I don't care. I won't buy VR. It felt as if you would have had exclusive games to certain brands of LCD monitors when they started coming out. They all use the same technology and all games should work on all of them. It's just some lines of code making the games unplayable on purpose. Nothing more. Just how iPhones are completely unrepairable because of their unique component IDs. Even with brand new parts from an identical iPhone it's impossible.
Don't even get me started on what FB is doing with their VR headset right now. How much power they have over it. Down to remotely preventing you from using the product you bought.
@@DanKaschel Valve might not be the worst of the tech overlords, but it is still one, and it's important to remember that.
@@ekki1993 not everybody with power is the enemy
The most heartwrenching part of this video was seeing that the business quest was $500 more expensive. The thought that they make the quest 2 so cheap only becauss they could make so much money collecting and selling your data is scary. With the quest's price point and convenience it definitely feels like they will control the average consumer experience of vr for years to come, unfortunately.
Good to see non-VR specific channel talk about Meta in that way so that they could put their exclusivity off.
This affects indie games too as they would primarily target Quest 2 first and everything else later or just drop it (cause they lack the budget)
Recording on Quest 2 looks like crap too.
The market goes where the consumer is, and Quest 2 has just absolutely swamped PCVR.
Who knew exorbitant tethered headsets attached to even more exorbitant PC’s would get overtaken by a tetherless all-in-one device that’s only 300 bucks.
Turns out Meta no longer sells the Oculus for business, and are now moving to just put the stuff used for it on their consumer headsets. There is now no legal and easy way to get around Meta if you want to play this game.
The talk about problems in videogames should always segway into the problems of corporations. I'm glad you can keep it up, even if it might hurt your engagement. A lot of gamers can't understand the problems hurting the things they like because they deny those discussions, and it's led to the sad state of AAA gaming we have today.
Also, Meta had the biggest daily drop of corporate capital in history just a couple days ago. Hopefully they abandon the failed ideal of a metaverse or keep going until the company fails entirely to its own fixation on vaporware. Either way, it's a win for the rest of us.
If gamers would only realize that it's capitalism ruining their games and not sjws
Segue.
Gamers won't have this conversation because they still think having POC and women in their games is "max politics". They see that as the reason why games are bad instead of like....idk the literal politicians who somehow get jobs as upper management 🤔. And these are grown ass men so like they'll keep buying FIFA eventhough they hate it and it gets worse every iteration.
So basically, videogaming needs a crash and all large corporation have to die simultaneously in order for video games to be better permanently? Neat.
@@iantaakalla8180 It doesn't need to be simultaneous, and though it would be cool that corporations magically went away, I'd be content with them being slowly replaced by smaller devs of higher quality.
I'm so glad someone finally made a point to bring up the original ending credits of Resident Evil 4.
It's such an oddly serene and touching moment in an otherwise relatively loud and campy game that it has always stood out in my memory.
Seeing it missing from this version is a change so pointless and specific that it almost feels personal.
You can actually pass the village invasion without spawning the chainsaw dude, you just need to stay out of the house with the shotgun during the invasion, if done so he would spawn in another part of the game, but it is much easier to kill because it would be just him alone
your essays are one of the things keeping me sane these last few years. Thank you bro
this is the second time i've thought "oh wow, i miss jacob. i hope he posts soon" just to immediately open youtube and see a new video up. thank you jacob!
Every new video Jacob makes about resident evil the I can see the amount of love he has for this series grow. A new facet is shown to me and I wonder if Jacob will ever run out of topics to talked about and bring up in relation to RE. Very cool!!
My first experience in vr has been exactly like this, im no stranger to fps games hell I grew up playing them non stop from halo, to cod, to battlefield, to doom, etc
But you never really take into consideration what it really is like to be the character and not just play the character. We have never BEEN the main protagonist until now
And just like you, my experience of fps games meant fck all when the desperation and panic combination of trying to reload my janky gun all the while the enemy closes in for an instant kill (add the real world problem with having a shaky hand or anxiety attack and the experience is triple)
Vr may not work well with hyper action games but it sure as hell will revolutionize slow and mechanical games.
Imagine how great RE4 VR would look like on PC or even PSVR 2, or even if full body tracking becomes a standard and you can kick without having to flash a black screen every time it would happen. Also, once you get your VR legs, try Boneworks or Bonelab when it comes out :)
Hey Jacob, just wanted to let you know that despite my older brother owning the original game when I was a kid, I never actually got to play it until the VR port came out. I am currently running through my first playthrough of RE4, in 2022. Gonna try and delay watching this video to the end for spoiler reasons just in case, but wanted to leave this comment first. I'm not entirely unaware of some plot beats and the general idea of RE4, I watch your videos after all, but for once my poor memory is coming in handy by blanking out any previously known spoilers.
Just wanted your thoughts on how different VR would be as an introduction to the series. I think its a very novel way of starting out. I own RE4 thru 6 on Steam as of a recent sale, and am looking very much forward to them after getting done with this VR port.
update: it was exactly as good as jacob geller promised
You are the MAN, Jacob Geller. I love a good video essay, but you take the format and elevate it beyond your peers. Not to disparage their work, of course - there are a lot of great content creators out there and I'm endlessly thankful to them all. Your work has that fucking je ne sais quoi that gives it emotional impact, a personal touch, and you just churn them out like it comes easy to you. Thanks so much. Also, your beard is 10/10, keep up the good work.
Dude your writing is exceptional. I could listen to you talk about anything. Love the content
"Mr. Big Feelings Leftist Essay Guy" got a huge laugh out of me. LOVED this video. I'm never disappointed when you upload. I can't wait to see more.
“If you have boobs, the grenade may be placed within your chest.”
The concept of this is somehow hilarious.
Damn I can't believe they removed the villagers story from the end credits that to me was a huge thing it really made me feel for the people that I was just gunning down and karate kicking. It was almost funny seeing it the first time and THEN realizing to myself that obviously a village like that would have had kids and how could I not realize that all the poor kids had either been murdered or starved to death by their own parents after they were infected it was such a poignant moment for me that I still remember it now. To be shown that yeah these people weren't just random infected bad guys but innocent victims of an evil cult.
Wearing Leon's Jacket while in VR.
Pure. Immersion. ❤
Remember when Jason Rubin, VP of Metaverse Content said in 2018 that they shouldn't "build the Metaverse with the plan to help other Platforms accumulate and retain consumers", and they should prevent them from "being in the VR business in a meaningful way at all"?
I simply cannot even begin to agree that a relatively new and incredibly niche medium such as VR needs exclusivity back in 2021, or even now.
And I'm not even a fan of Resident Evil.
It's giving me a feeling like when Fall Guys got de-listed from Steam to be on Epic Games Launcher. It baffles me how people can just *do* things like that to limit an audience.
It was cool seeing your little section on the credits at the end. I did an essayish video on the credits of RE4 myself, and as a lover of your content seeing you say some of the same stuff I did was cool. Loved the video as per usual.
Man, I was so excited when RE4 VR was announced. It's been one of my favorite games since before it released, perhaps my actual favorite, and the idea of taking it to a new platform and experiencing a new way to play it, I could barely contain myself.
The reveal that it was not only an exclusive, but an exclusive to a Facebook platform was one of the most crushing disappointments of my life, comparatively. It is a disgusting move, and unfortunately for me it means that I have never end will never play this game in VR.
They paid for the game's development dipshit... This is like being pissed off that Microsoft won't release Halo on PlayStation.

@@JacobGeller update: very very good video. grateful you put it all in context of where VR is at and what Meta is doing.
why do i keep watching videos about VR, knowing i'll never have the money or the space to be able to use it?
I like how you drop the single most underrated and best music for a game at 3:20. The gameboy Robocop theme. It's stupidly beautiful and has no reason to be.
Jacob's love for RE4 will never die.

It's also useful for taller people to set the weapon belt lower and more far apart :)
I'm listening to this video for a second time while knocking chores out, and something I missed on my first time through was the shift in BGM at 5:41. Fantastic use of one of my favorite pieces of RE music.

Always lovely to see a new vid
i never get tired of hearing you talk about RE4. the love u have for it is so apparent. so clear. it shines, and it's -- i was gonna say "delightful" to listen to, but "delightful" doesn't feel strong enough. it's just really, really good, hearing u speak about it. so thanks for letting us do so again. :)
the way you time what your saying with whats happening in the clip is impeccable
VRE 4 is possibly the most fun i've ever had in a video game. ever
"Business" branded consumer devices almost always come with an active support plan. The $500 price increase isn't just to avoid a meta account.
Great vid, loved the game.
Buying ad space to fill with nothing so that your viewers don't have to watch ads and your video won't get interrupted? Kind of awesome man, good for you
Whoa i actually still remember the ending credits.
Those pictures that captured the history of the town folks was just the perfect way to end such a game.
I remember buying re4 for ps2,expecting 3rd person tank controls.
Crazy times.....
As a fellow Rift owner I feel your pain having this become exclusive for the Quest 2 ;~;
for a little bit of background info, ive gotten RE4 running on a quest1 and runs perfectly. the decision to make the game exclusive to quest2 was 100% on purpose. it could have been for the rift, and it could have been for the quest1
This is like complaining that Microsoft should put games THEY FUND on the PlayStation out of the kindness of their heart... Why is it only different when it comes to Meta? Why do only THEY have to release the exclusives THEY PAY FOR on other platforms? Either hold the other companies equally accountable for doing the same stuff or stop being a god damn hypocrite.
@@Cooe. microsoft doesnt own the playstation... this would be like if microsoft had a xbox x and an xbox x.1, released only a few years apart. and the game they made can only be bought on the x.1 despite the fact that the x can totally run it just as well.
I got an ad for nebula with Jacob Geller in it right before this vid and I genuinely thought it was the start to this vid and I tapped the skip button expecting it to just be an editing thing and it freaked my mind out so much
Every few weeks i settle in to watch another jacob geller video about resident evil 4 even though ive never played it and never will just because jacobs enthusiasm about the game shines so brightly. These videos feel like your friend is explaining every intricate detail of their new interest and you listen because you love the way they string words together
This video is amazing. My first thought was what does the meta-ness of it all mean for us and gaming. And then BOOM you knock it out of the park
You say you can't stop talking, and yet in 27 minutes the video will end. Checkmate.
Curious 🙄
Outstanding work on this essay, man. How was I not subbed to you already?
Well would you look at that! I only discovered you a few days ago and your content is so good and thought provoking that I've made my way through almost all of your videos by now, and just as I was about to run out of more of your smooth voiced profound content you upload again. yay ;)
As I was going through the steam summer sale and purchasing Metal Gear Rising: Revengence, I was thinking about how much I wanted a new Jacob video and lo and behold, here he is
I know RE4 VR gets a lot of love, and exclusivity sucks, but can someone talk about the ugly flat materials with the white specular on them and terrible particles/effects, and the red filter the game has overall?
The worse effects makes the shooting of guns feel worse, compare exploding heads, shooting regenerator limbs off, or Verdugo freezing etc from this version to the OG, huge downgrade. Applies to fire/grenade particles too
As for the materials, you can see around the edges of models a noticable white washed out look to it, like they are default UE4 materials, where as in the OG game you always see the main texture (diffuse) and there wasn't any matte reflections or anything.
The VR version also seems to have a red filter applied overall (mostly around the darker areas), the original game looked more desaturated and less red overall
But obviously the main topic is exclusivity, and I hate it so much too. It hurts to see Meta trying to kill PCVR and give big middle fingers to their previous headset owners, and to see all the brainless normies support and defend Facebook & Oculus for this... Not to mention this isn't a big brand new original game by Oculus, it's an old classic that's multiplatform, it should not be exclusive. Applies to RE8 and RE4 Remake for PSVR2 too.
Managing to convince your parents to get RE4 for you through a technicality of the Torah is an extremely high IQ move.
Love the jacket you're wearing while playing! Great video! I can't wait to see more from you!
I really feel like the quest2 is a millennial trap. It has everything I love for a cheap price. You only need to sell your soul and data. Also the money in the app store but at least you can still use PC VR with air link or cable (for now)
To see what happens when a bunch of suits get to dominate an entire sub genre of gaming, look no further than the soulless slot machines that have become the mobile games market. Oof
3:17 masterful use of the classic axe-throw transition lol
Thank you for making this video. It's so important that people keep thinking about the privacy breaches of Facebook and how they use the collected data. Great video keep up the good work!
Yeah.. pretty devastating that for us to be able to share and enjoy our art with one another it has to be filtered through and enabled by increasingly questionably emboldened mega corporations, but at least we can go out enjoying an endless stream of content as we lose our freedoms and they move further from reproach..
This problem is the reason I don't have a VR system. VR has finally reached a point where I can justify buying it (ya know more than one or two games I'll play and then walk away from) and I finally have the space for one. The only problem? I'm not buying a facebook machine and on top of that I'm not going to spend the hundreds of dollars on a VR system only to face the same problem VR had for me originally. With games going exclusive to certain VR systems I can't justify buying one of them anymore. For me it's dead in the water and not coming back, any one I knew who had a VR system theirs is now out of date and doesn't get releases anymore so there's no one to play with either. There's no reason I can find to even try VR gaming at this time.
I'm in the same exact boat. I couldn't afford to buy VR when it would only get me, like 2 games of play, but now I can't afford $500 extra to keep my privacy.
That ad man, shaving half your face, and raw gameplay, Rick and morty creators would be proud.
I’m so excited for you to get your gold button, I’m sure within the next few videos will get you there man.
I love your videos.
every single time I open the youtube app and see that you have uploaded something I get this little rush of excitement and hold everything that i’m doing off to give it a watch. specially when it is about RE4. thanks a lot for this video.
The saddest part about this video is that even after all that, despite knowing the greed that surrounds the game and Quest 2… many people are still going to feed into this system and buy one. Not because they want to, but because it’s a necessity. Console exclusivity in gaming in general is awful for consumers and this is no different. To add insult to injury, the fact that the games don’t transfer between pc and quest store means that once you purchase one and you buy games on the Quest to play wireless, you’re stuck playing on their system because they’re able to use blatant anti-consumer tactics and nobody can do anything.
Or you could just not play it
I wish I could play it on PSVR because I don't want to buy Quest 2 just for a game
Exactly. Plus Meta is trying to kill PCVR too. Sad that so many brainless normies will keep buying into Metas stuff and support them. What's even sadder is that, RE4 is a multiplatform game, and a classic, this isn't like a big brand new original game by Oculus, it's even worse than 1st party titles exclusivity from Playstation for exemple (This also applies to RE8/RE4 Remake for PSVR2, not to mention you'll need a rare expensive PS5 on top of a PSVR2 too, and can't use a PSVR2 on PC)
Jacob: "Exclusivity deals are just a part of the gaming industry"
Me: I feel like exclusivity deals are part of everything, or at least everything media related; without them, everyone would have access to more or less the same content pool and it'd just be a matter of execution. Hell, copyright, broken as it is, is essentially exclusivity to the creator; without exclusivity as an industry concept, there's no allowing some platforms to show your work without allowing all of them. In that world, UA-cam would be pretty much the only video media thing of note because everything could just go there and it's the biggest one right now.
Jacob: Here's a follow-up video exclusive to Nebula
Me: increasingly smug facial expression as I remember what I'd thought a few minutes prior
This isn't a criticism, mind. The Nebula ad illustrates why different platforms existing is a broadly good thing in the first place, and Nebula/UA-cam being available on the same hardware is a different animal to the VR headset issue or the old(?) console wars. Or...maybe not entirely, in both cases the idea is to gate access to a bunch of stuff behind a paywall, but in one case that paywall is $15 for a year subscription and in the other it's buy this new cutting edge piece of hardware and also hook yourself up to our dystopian corporate future network thingy. Still, it's such a massive difference of degree that it feels like it becomes a difference in kind as a result.
...good god, even the ads on Jacob Geller videos offer new insights into the world.
Listening to you talk about re4 while roller coaster tycoon 2 music plays is such a specific and visceral combination of feelings I can't even describe, but it works
hi jacob, id like to congratulate you on your success! i remember watching your universal paperclips video when you had only like a few thousand subs, and then when you realized your shadow of the colossus video i just watched on socialblade as your sub count exploded, im glad to see you getting the recognition you deserve
I felt the way you felt playing this when I first played resident evil 7 on psvr. I absolutely despise oculus and meta. I love VR. I own a valve index and I believe the things that Facebook/Oculus are doing to VR is inherently destructive to it's future. PSVR is guilty of this crap too. Such a niche thing as vr is made worse by headset or brand exclusive games. I just flat out refuse to pay for 300 dollars to play one game with a inferior headset. I mainly play flight simulators such as DCS world and if I'm investing i another headset it will be the new headsets coming out that have human eye resolution and much wider fov. Thank god for the modders releasing vr versions of all the resident evil games. Cause if they won't do it for us we will.
Gonk
Man, our cyber-square dystopia keeps showing up when you least want it to. For what it's worth, hearing you gush about how the new control scheme fundmentally changes the playing experience of your favorite game added a good bit of brightness to my day.
That part in the beginning, you explained it well. It really is like playing the game again for the first time.
