A wonderful performance! Phrasing and forming the infinitely expressive melodic arches make him a convincing musician and passionate conductor: Leopold Stokowski.
Frank Miller, first chair cello, reunited with Stokey after many years from when Stokey conducted the NBC Symphony. Frank held that position in the CSO for another 20 years or so. Feel free to post any more that you have of these precious kinescopes! :-)
I'll delve into my collection and see what there is! ... Meanwhile here is some more televised Stokowski from Chicago dating back to those years, this time evidently taken off a master video tape. It's Berlioz's "Roman Carnival" Overture and is preceded by an interview with Stokowski in which it is clear that the maestro was somewhat disdainful of the questions being asked! ... ua-cam.com/video/9GVkg6p3o3c/v-deo.html
They're buried in my collection somewhere! ... This one seems to be getting quite a few "views" already and also some nice comments, so I must see what else I have. Thanks for your own comment!
