I think a big problem with steroids is the way they are normalized in pop culture as well. You don't even have to look at bodybuilding pros to see steroids in use. Chris Hamsworth as Thor, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. they are just two examples of people who are, at least obvious to people who work out, on gear.
Exactly. And what troubles me is their 'motivation' or 'grind' videos with millions of views perpetuates these expectations of what hard work can achieve. With expectations like that boys become frustrated by comparatively smaller results, even if those results are massive and to be proud of.
@@johermeah3988 Yea, and they are selling their mediocre programs, telling the masses, that their physique was achieved by hard work and their program. When in reality they just used steroids.
Townshend is objectively wrong. In a study, participants were provided either a steroid or a placebo, and both groups were further divided into two sub-groups, which were instructed to either exercise on a regular schedule or avoid exercise entirely. At the end of the trial period, the participants who took steroids but did not exercise had higher muscle growth than the participants that took the placebo and regularly exercised.
I am not endorsing steroids at all. I've been dealing with HIV and AIDS for over 30 years and there was a six-month. Where my doctor put me on human growth hormone to try to get some weight and muscle back on me. It was the most incredible stuff I've ever seen in my life! It was exactly like I was 18 years old again. Everything I ate be it protein or fat or carbohydrates turned immediately into muscle. My hair grew faster and my nails grow faster I had more energy then I've had since I was a teenager. The problem is you can't keep your body ramped-up like this forever. And if you have a little tiny tumor somewhere human growth hormone acts like fertilizer on it. It is not a benign drug but used correctly it can be remarkable.
Similarly, my wife was prescribed Prednisolone after major surgery and life threatening illness - She went from deaths door, 18hrs a day in bed, barely able to feed herself, to needing only 4hrs a night sleep, frantically cleaning the house and applying for bizarre jobs all round the world. Chris Froome was prescribed 3x the amount she got as a 'Theraputic use Exemption' whilst racing the Tour De France. My wife maintains SHE could have won that race on his dosage.... I hope you are keeping well. And it's fascinating to see what medical science can do.
@Cinephile Chemically they may be in different groups, but they're both acting to mimic the effects of Hormones on the human body. They're part of the same discussion.
While bodybuilding is the most visually striking example, I think it’s also the most niche inspiration. Household names like Dwayne Johnson has normalized steroid bigness the same way Arnold did via film. Both have done family and young adult action films. Young men never get shown the difference between peak natural results vs peak steroid results unless they pursue the info themselves.
So a young man who was thinking about taking them should study them first? Kind of like ANY time you CHOOSE to take on a new endeavor? Instead of relying on others, Take PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY for your own HEALTH? Sounds like common sense to me.

@@Guillermo_Carratero Simeon panda is a POS. Not only he claims natty which is ridiculous but he also promotes training and diet plans that do NOT work for real natural lifters. Drugged up "influencers" like him are the reason why many people don't make any serious gains. That said he is still better than that fucker greg doucette and the 17 yo aesthetic brahs on tren.
I can still remember when I was training in the gym as a beginner back then. A gym member who was 5-6 years older than me taught me some exercises and told me how muscular and vascular his body was a few years ago. He then showed me his chest and I noticed that he had swollen nipples even though he wasn't high in body fat. His explanation for this condition was: Since I don't exercise as actively as I used to, I got fat deposits in my chest. He also told me about problems in his joints. I'm pretty sure today that he suffered from gynecomastia due to his previous steroid abuse. Thank god I never touched steroids.
He probably didn’t have proper knowledge of how to use them due to the stigma and laws. SERMs and Aromatase inhibitors prevent gyno from estrogen. If abusing Deca or using other 19 nor derivatives then cabergoline or prami can be used to prevent gyno from prolactin.
I’ve run all the gear before, now only do TRT! Gyno is mainly from poor diet while on gear, doing hard cardio and keeping diet in check will prevent most. Also not blasting stupid dosages like 250mg/week and above. Tren can lead to a different issue, prolactin build up. Most males already have some gyno from puberty or being overweight, also vascularity does not go away once the gear stops, as your red blood cell count will stay elevated unless you donate blood.
@@dannyd938 damn didn’t see you made a similar comment, tren and decca give that prolactin build up. I had to stop tren after a severe flair up of cystic acne.
You can get that from not using steroids and end up on them to fix it. Everything has a time and a place for it people shouldn't demonize things like that. It not thier fault he abused them.
2:16 this actually isn't true. They did a study on this and people gained muscle sitting on their ass...like a lot too 😂 Not as much as if you trained and ate properly while also on steroids of course but still a lot.
To a certain degree, its not linear. Its like you changed your genetic baseline for muscle retention/growth. Unforturnately a lot of studies do not really take into account the relative affect on a trained individual to an un-trained. If you are natural and training and take steroids but stop training (of course this is all relative, how advanced of a lifter you are and how much you take/what you take etc) you will most likely lose strength and mass. I am currently still a natural lifter (I compete in powerlifting recreationally) but my coach has spoken to me about the path of gear if I am to choose that road. As I am somewhat advanced (3.5 x BW deadlift, 3x BW squat, 2x BW bench, roughly ofc), if I am to take steroids for it to be worthwile I will need to increase the intensity of my training to see the true benefits of them. (I know steroids in strength sports are used differently to bodybuilding, but we take the same drugs, just different cycles and peaking techniques etc)
If this was not the case, most of these drugs had no or little legal application. They are not meant to only work if you go really hard in the gym. Who would evem approve such a drug. I'd say that was an oversimplification on her side, but still a valid point in general. It's not like you get massive just and from steroids only.
I'm so glad someone mentioned this. I read about the same study, there was the group of guys that sat on their butts and did nothing but took roids and put on more muscle than the ones that were clean and hit the gym every day. But then the group that took roids and also hit the gym were like 6 times stronger than the next group. People sometimes downplay how much of a factor steroids are. And the obvious corollary that if the effect is big then the side-effects will also be big.
I think discussions and documentaries with people who actually work out or go to gyms or use steroids are way better than this one. She seemed new to the environment as some average American or Brit going to Mongolia and wondering why and how they do horse riding games the way they do, "studying it" for a short time, and reporting on it. A person who knows horses and some tribal nomadic herding cultures would be better for the interview.

One thing this video didn't address is the increase of fly-by-night HRT clinics. Younger males-as young as 19-are able to get prescribed Testosterone and other androgens, even if their testosterone levels are within the normal range. This is problematic because social media fitness influencers endorse these clinics-as well as offer promo codes for them. That along with heavy SARM usage among teenagers has led younger males to mess around with their endocrine system at such a young age.

Dude all professional athletes use or have used AAS. it's not just about aesthetics. The big problem is how they are stigmatizing them. This is why so many have to hide their use cause of the massive unjustified stigma around it that will make everyone loose sponsors and or get fired for use. Meanwhile hundreds of millions use or have used AAS and 98% live long healthy lives. The simple fact is we consume much more dangerous things to our health daily. AAS are literally just hormones and there is hardly any actual literature after 60+ years of use to prove they are remotely dangerous.
A friend of mine used steds for years on and off especially when his self esteem was at his lowest he would inject steps and go to the gym 2 or 3 times a day. One day I went to check in to see how he was doing because I noticed that he'd became increasingly depressed he rolled up his arm to show me a wound he had since he last injected himself. It was a large black hole which was very inflamed around the edges, he wouldn't go see a doctor so the best I could do for him was to clean his wound and dress it. After a while he started to get a nasty constant cough which was evident everything I saw him, I recognised the signs that he could have had lung cancer because i have it i begged him to go get checked out. That was 10 years ago now and I haven't seen him since, his health was worse tha mine and i had stage 4 lung cancer, he just disappeared and I'm scared that after all these year's I can't help but think that he has died.

Steroids greatly boosted my fitness progress, enabling me to surpass previous milestones and achieve results more quickly. Their effectiveness depends on incorporating them wisely within a carefully designed regimen that prioritizes both growth and well-being.
Test Enan is commonly used in hormone replacement therapy to address low testosterone levels, promoting muscle growth and improving overall well-being. Tren, on the other hand, greatly enhances muscle size and strength. Speeds up recovery from injuries as well.
Totally agree. Steroids helped me recover faster and maintain muscle mass, especially during intense training or after injury. It's amazing how they can support bone health as well, which is crucial for people with conditions like osteoporosis.

Yes, I’ve seen studies done that prove this. I don’t think so much so how you explained it. But if both groups don’t workout, the steroid user will still see muscle gain while the other will likely see a decrease

I know far more people that have used steroids than have used heroin (most people I've trained, that's one of their first questions). Especially with social media, it has basically become standard for men to go to the gym for 3 months and then hop on some sort of assistance to get instant results. Great reserach. However, I have to point out some things. In the beginning the woman is saying 1 Million people in the UK are on steroids. She doesn't make the distinction between TRT and abusing steroids though. One can be for actual medical purposes and the other is just to reach a supraphysiological body. Secondly, she says that "if you are just injecting steroids without doing physical training, nothing is going to happen". This is not true. There are various studies that suggest that injecting high doses of anabolic steroids alone lead to significant increases in muscle mass compared to placebo.

Arnold constantly talks about the dangers of steroid use in modern bodybuilding, and how the drugs used (and the dosage) has changed. Back when he took them himself, they were new, legal and considered more of a supplement. They weren't aware of the dangers of them. He is not popularising these drugs, on the contrary he is trying to diminish the use of them
Also from interviews I've seen from all of them during the 70s they said what they took Is basically what you see women fitness models take now. Guys today are on wayyy too much. 2:00 "steroids dont make you bigger on their own". Not true, theres an old study that investigated effects of 4 scenarios: lifting on steroids, lifting no steroids, no lifting steroids, and no lifting no steroids. Guys on steroids who didnt lift gained more muscle than those off steroids who did lift. I mean even if you think about it, anabolic steroids get prescribed in loads of medical contexts eg cancer or AIDS where people need to gain mass, without any expectation of training. Steroids are given to cows and theyre not in the gym. Why did you interview someone who doesn't lift?
The conspiracy theory thing was a real weird stretch they angled in somehow. "I noticed a lot of people were antivaxx", you could say that after visiting Walmart, it doesn't mean all Walmart shoppers and antivaxx.
2:00 she's actually wrong about that. Taking a moderate dose of testosterone for 8 weeks and not working out whatsoever elicits more lean muscle growth than a natural athlete doing intense weight training for the same amount of time. This has been demonstrated in several studies.
Steroid users are EVERYWHERE. Not just weightlifters and athletes. Doctors, lawyers, teachers, cops, firefighters, nurses, businessmen, students, white collar workers, blue collar workers, etc, etc, etc. It is a rampant epidemic. Many instances of workplace violence, harassment, bullying, assault etc. can be linked to rage caused by steroid use.
As a former IV user, I never considered that steroid users would share needles the way IV drug users, like myself at the time, often do. That more than anything just opened my eyes to the deeper motivations in the steroid addiction lifestyle. Much love to all, especially anyone really going thru it
Almost all of them probably don't. Sure there's always one stupid guy out there but it is certainly not the norm. Notice she said "she heard a story" about that. A steroid cycle will run someone 500 to several thousand dollars. People who have the means to spend that on a 13 week cycle have no problem going to Amazon and spending 20 bucks on 100 insulin syringes.

Steroids are psychologically and physically addictive, I know as I've been there. Once you have experienced being super physiologically enhanced it is very difficult to go back and live as an average schmuck again.
Yeah, show me what compound from which of the 3 base groups of anabolic steroids has been shown to be physically addictive. It's pretty obvious that you just became a human pincushion without really understanding the stuff you blasted beyond the typical gym bro, because that's not true, lol.
The woman in 2:15 mentioned that nothing would happen from just taking steroids and not working out, which is complete nonsense. Steroids on its own have strong anabolic effects.
I see you’ve seen that 20 week study too. The 17lbs “lean” mass was likely half water and half muscle. The muscle probably was gained within the first 12 weeks. I guarantee you if that patient never came off that dosage and didn’t train at all he wouldn’t build a pound more muscle. You can’t expect continual growth on the same roid dose without progressive overload.

I've been lifting since I was 14 back in the mid 70s. One thing she got wrong is that steroids alone won't give you muscles it makes you work harder. No amount of lifting will give you that type of physique without steroids.
@@melanindread I said that's what she got wrong. Taking anabolic steroids will give you muscles and even more when you train. I said no amount of lifting without steroids will give you that kind of body.
steroids actually increase myostatin levels so u would diff need to go to the gym and lift weight even with roids (roids dont increase myostatin but ur body increases it due to having high anabolic drugs in the system)
Hmmm, some incorrect information in this video - steroids DO make your muscles grow, even if you don't work out. A lot of steroids were developed for medical use for example in cases of muscle degenerative diseases. 'Steroids' is a blanket term, but ultimately these hormones are often developed to literally make your muscles grow.
They have many different medical uses not just for degenerative diseases. Which is not to make your muscle just grow it's to help STOP OR SLOW muscle wasting/ catibolizing. And help them keep their muscle mass also can be used to help bring back someone rhat has already lost a lot of lean muscle mass. Can also be used jn some cancer treatments , and to aid sick cells , boost immunity and help metabolic diseases.
Comparing steroids to heroin is pretty unfair.... Steroids used correctly can actually improve someone's life and make them more healthy.... Get real, Think for yourself people
2:16 - studies have indicated that only using steroids will cause the body to add lean muscle mass at a comparable rate to non-users who engage in resistance training.
What a specialist that lady.. one DOES gain some muscle mass when taking anabolic steroids even without exercising (goes without saying, you gain more when exercising)
She says at 1:19 that "If you jus take steroids and don't go to the gym nothing is going to happen" which is just not true, you will have muscle growth on steroids even if you do not work out. It will not be near as much as if you do work out, but studies have shown that steroids and no work-out can give you more muscle mass than no steroids and working out.
May I ask how many people you know who are suffering from opioid abuse and it's affects? Without taking away from you or your family member, condolences...

The lady you interviewed had no clue what she was talking about 😂 steroids make you bigger. You get twice as big on steroids not working out than someone natural working out
At 2:20, there is said that steroids don't make you big if you don't work out, I think this isn't true. I have heard of a study where a group steroid users where compared to non steroid users, and the steroid group gained 3 times more muscles without working out than the group without steroids that was working out.
And the fact that most bodybuilders arent transparent with their steroid use leads any impressionable young people to think that if they just put in the hard work, they’ll look like that as well. There needs to be more transparency regarding steroid use from the most influential men, such as movie stars, and also awareness about the consequences they can have.
There's a growing trend in admitting to it and talking about the downsides alongside accessible accurate information rather than just broscience "it's safe if you..." Unfortunately many still pretend to be natty, but at least some progress is better than none.
Rhay is not rhe athletes fault . It's societies. The big problem is how they are stigmatizing them. Thank God I don't have an obsession with overtraining and use of any PEDs.
Great video. One point that was made about steroids, in the beginning, isn't actually true. While many anabolic drugs certainly help you workout harder and recover quicker, many of these substances will make you more muscular without any resistance training. Obviously not to the same degree, but still to a significant, measurable extent. Depending on the dosage, multiple studies have found that, if given enough of an anabolic substance, non-resistance training groups grow more muscle in the short term than drug-free resistance training groups. Similar to how a teenager can often gain some muscle merely because they are going through adolescence and have increased androgenic hormones in their system.
Thank you for pointing this out. I was thinking the same thing when I heard it. And unfortunately a seemingly small mistake like this, very much undermines the credibility of this video.
THANK YOU that woman was driving me crazy saying they wouldnt do anything when there has literally been a study proving they make you gain muscle more even if you dont workout. She doesnt seem to actually know that much about the topic.

There are safe ways to run it. Ever heard of anti aging clinics? Yeah that's all it is.

2:16 this actually isn't true. They did a study on this and people gained muscle sitting on their ass...like a lot too 😂
Not as much as if you trained and ate properly while also on steroids of course but still a lot.
Especially if they are the kind of steroids that raises testosterone...
A lot of the added lean body mass is water. Testosterone causes water retention.
Im 100% certain there is a ton more marijuana use than steroids. Some weird opening statement that was.

Steroids are that effective.

Great reserach. However, I have to point out some things. In the beginning the woman is saying 1 Million people in the UK are on steroids. She also says it just makes you work harder. Complete nonsense, many steroids grow muscles beyond the natural skeletal limit of the body.

And unfortunately a seemingly small mistake like this, very much undermines the credibility of this video.

not to mention the likelihood of weak knees and other side effects from the roids, poor cardio by comparison to a balanced fighter, etc.
@@bradybrapples "functional strength" is not a thing, strength is strength. What you're talking about is endurance which obviously bodybuilders likely won't train

Keep blasting gear kids, it's perfectly healthy.
There's a needle disposal box in the men's room of the commercial gym I go to - that says everything. But I don't understand why someone would shoot up in the gym lockerroom when they could just do it at home.
They wanna do it just before they work out
diabetics.. but generally they are very conscientious of their sharps disposal
Most public restrooms have a needle disposal box for people with diabetes who inject insulin. So that’s plausible deniability.
They buy the shots in the gym.
But the best time is right before the workout for max pumps bro !!!
I know a chap that went crazy on steroids! He would have unhinged and aggressive mood-swings. He's okay now though, he just smokes the good herb. :)
This also happened with my niece's husband. He started taking steroids and within a couple of weeks his entire personality changed and he became an aggressive, dangerous stranger. She had to take her son and flee the house. He's still taking steroids and she's got a divorce.
It's called roid rage, certain steroids effect mood more then others.
Testosterone can be better for you than cannabis considering your dose and why you're taking it.
@@thereisnofinishline5773 moreso dose, I take 300mg testosterone enathate a week and that won't cause rage for me but would for many people because my testosterone is low without taking it as a result of a brain tumor that if removed, my testosterone will actually be even lower.
I had the misfortune of working with guys with roid rage. They were aggressive and violent.
Absolutely false what the researcher said about steroids only enabling you to “work out harder”.
Does anyone know any influencers who are sponsored by steroid labs?? This video is poorly researched and literally is just interviewing 1 "expert" for the whole thing and tries to cover every single PED community in 1 video. These forums are from 5+ years ago when the internet was not as regulated as it is now, nice work on having up to date information vice! RIP Rich Piana, he died doing what he loved - a true inspiration
She knows some statistics but seems like a poorly informed and fish out of water "expert".
Saying a drug user is an inspiration is such a moral low point. Wow !
If I ever want to try steroids I'll just go into the doctors office and tell them I have a daughter who wants to transition.
Doctor prescription is needed better you shop online

Bro check out the site 👆i have been dealing with them for 3 years they are legit and professionals in cycle recommendations. 🌎

Stopped watching there
they all look minimum 10 years older then they are. i saw a 37 year old dude looke like 57.

She looks better on cam.
More people use Tylenol than Heroin too…I don’t get the point in their statistic
Another hit, Barry Bonds
The amount of different types of roids you can get online legally is insane
I would take this woman more seriously if every sentence wasn't full of "like" this and "like" that. She should use adult speech patterns.
There really does need to be more proper education on steroid usage and also if people are going to use them they need to aware of what happens to your body when you over do it harm reduction is always the way to go imo
that man in the thumbnail deserves a lot more recognition than he gets for his study's on the human body and muscle growth. he seriously debunked the theory of the human body having a peak in muscle growth. he gave his life doing so but he did prove his point
Vice be like - I don't really care. I just need content so when the they really matter let's put to make a video .
Vice is really like scavengers waiting for the prey ( content)
RIP Rich
There certainly is a peak, at some point the damage will outweigh the benefits preventing you from getting bigger, hence why he is no longer with us.

They’re easy to get if you want to transition, hard to get if you have low-t.
Apologies, but there isnt a woman alive who truly understands what "toxic masculinity" is. That term is an insult to real men
In the end, we will always idolize whatever our ego desires. We like to long for perfection, because the self wants to be affirmed and the ego wants to be indulged.
That women hes talking to knows nothing about steroids. "just get you to workout harder".....Its not fucking pre-workout. She has zero clue and shouldnt attempt to talk about it.
RIP Rich. He was open about his roid use & down to earth guy.

Sad state of academia when within the first 30 seconds of this video the "subject matter expert" states something empirically false. For the record, anabolics can put muscle on you without working out. There's a ton of info out there with regards to this very issue. I know these gear heads wanna believe that it's their hard work and genetics that got them there but, it's not. It's the mass amounts of synthetic androgens that they're jamming in their glutes weekly. The biggest lie these guys tell is, "steroids only help you workout more". Biggest BS I've ever heard. Y'all just admit that you're synthetic. All good. Go grab some of that synthol too because we all know your delt game is weak without it.
I stopped watching at this point. What credibility could she possibly have after a statement like that.
androgens themselves don't build muscle outside of puberty and when they do its insignificant amounts of mass gain. Muscle gains always require stimulus, amino acid availability and rest.
Thank you. Once I heard her say that I was like, "Now that's the Vice I know."
Lol, once she got into the "conspiracy theories" I was like now that's really like Vice. Lol. Vice is globalist woke garbage.
I was looking for this comment. It really threw me off when she said that and made me question how much she actually understands steroids. You can quite literally take steroids and do nothing and still outperform natural weightlifters.
1 in 65 people in the UK on steroids? Oh please... discounting the elderly and children, that's probably more likely 1 in 15 men, which is nonsense
What about the ladies? Doesn't it lower the voice?
woman at the start described steroids wrong lol
