I dont really know the history of the film itself. But being a 1950 movie it was released when Spain was still under the fascist dictatorship so yeah... women had it REAL /REAL/ BAD during that period of time (from 1939 to 1975 when the dictator passed away). It doesn't come as a surprise to me that the female characters are treated so badly and barely show up. Censorship on any type of media was massive and everything had to adjust to what the dictatorship said. Considering the spanish dictator wanted Hitler to be his friend and imitated him a lot, well... pretty bad situation. Whenever you're covering a Spanish movie made between 1939-1975, have in mind that it was made under a dictatorship, and certain stinky aspects of them may have to do with censorship and the fascism at the time.

No creo que ese fuera el motivo de la poca participación de Cenicienta. La historia del cuento original es muy simple y si solo adaptasen eso no daría más que para un cortometraje. La versión de Disney también metía cierto relleno con los ratones y las canciones. En esta versión muestran sólo lo necesario para entender a Cenicienta: madre muerta, madrastra abusadora, hada mágica, baile, zapato de cristal y final feliz.
Literalmente se podrían cortar las secuencias de los caballos bailando (entre otras más) y quedaría un cortometraje bastante decente.
Tengo la impresión que el equipo creativo vio demasiadas Silly Symphonys antes de escribir el guión.

I can explain the "Maybe I was..." bit. In Catalonia, there was a popular play, La Ventafocs, based on Cinderella, where the heroine says "Potser sí potser no, potser si que n'era jo" when asked if she was the girl the prince is looking for. It's a famous line many Catalonians would associate with Cinderella.

Interesting, I know it's not really a fair comparison as I suspect this movie has a much smaller budget and possibly other factors but it really makes me appreciate Disney's Cinderella more. Have you ever seen Ever After with Drew Barrymore, it's my favorite version of the Cinderella story.

More like Fairy Nun-Mother, seriously they gave nothing magical about this woman other than Catholic Nun. At least the animation was good for this XD
