UA-cam is telling me lots of you have come across this video outside of UA-cam 👀and I'm very nosy, so if that's you, please let me know where you came across this video! Thanks :D
I’ve never been to Haworth and once I’ve finished my Jane Austen pilgrimages I will finally get to Haworth. We only go abroad once in a blue moon as I love uk travel. Next year is my first time at a Jane Austen festival ( if I get the time off work) and Lyme Regis which will include a trip to greenway (agatha Christie) 2025 is Derbyshire. I’m behind on my ja pilgrimage cos of covid getting in the way but we did do Lincolnshire and stayed at old teigh rectory ( hunsford 1995) for 3 days only but so glad we did it as the wallpapers gone from the sitting room x
This was my absolute dream trip to Yorkshire and an excellent first step in my Brontë reading challenge! If you have any requests for my future 'Guide to Haworth' video, leave 'em below. - Sanne
Aww this it’s part of the city where I live! I’m glad you enjoyed some of the loveliest parts of Yorkshire if you ever need a guide feel free to reach out ❤️
Finally got a chance to sit down and absorb this whole thing in all it's glory and loved it! So beautifully shot and hearing more about the sisters makes me love the film Emily even more! x
I found Villette hard-going and I've a degree in English literature. I really enjoyed The Tenant of Wildfell Hall and also Agnes Grey. Anne Bronte deserves to be much better known as a writer.
Lovely! We listened to the audiobook of Hound of the Baskervilles for the first time in Dartmoor. You're right the place brings it to life. And the South West is stunning 😍
oh my goodness this is so beautiful🥹!! I’m from Yorkshire and visited Haworth a few months ago. keep being you and appreciating the beauty of books 🤍✨📖
Hi there Thank you for sharing the lovely views, I love Howarth I live in West Yorkshire and so I do visit alot, for those that do not know this but Howarth isn,t very big and so you can do alot in one day, plus if you are on your own its a lovely place to visit by yourself, there are so many places to eat and lots of lovely shops and the parsonage too, with a ittle garden and you can go for nice walks and a huge park to visit, once agin this was lovely and thank you for sharing Howarth with us xxxx
I had no idea that area would be so beautiful. I had something rather bleak in mind. That was long ago though, when I read Wuthering Heights. Time for a reread.
Hi! I'm traveling UK next year, and your video really helped me to decide to go to Haworth! Thank you sooo much! Hope I can have a wonderful time there as you did
I'm a huge fan of the Brontës sisters; I read and studied all of their work during my Bachelor's Degree in Foreign Language and Literature and even wrote my dissertation on their stylistic way of writing. I can only say I love your video, this is a trip I will definitely do sometime in the future!
A lovely video! I was just in Haworth on my own Brontë pilgrimage a few weeks ago, such a magical special place and it was wonderful to see your video, thank you! 🩷
I read Villette as part of a Narcissism in Literature class and it was exactly the book I needed at the time. I was going through growing pains very similar to the main character so I found the book riveting. However, I recognize that that was probably an unusual way to read the book so it is interesting to hear your take! Thanks for this video!
We read the book in high school and I've seen the movie (1992 version) ..I'm obsessed. Your upcoming trip makes this such a magical time for a re-read :))) yaaaaay!!!
I almost chose Wuthering Heights for my English degree seminar paper because I love it so much but ended up choosing The Tenant of Wildfell Hall to give Anne some love. I loved that book-you can see how unshy Anne really was about her thoughts!
So weird seeing you around Haworth and on the moors because I grew up around there and live just ten minutes away! If you do come again I would recommend a walk up to the stanza stones, there's I think 5-6 sets of them around the area, inspired by the Brontes' influence.
Oh my God! I am currently reading Wuthering heights for the first time and watched some trailers, then I bumped on your video and it was magical. Your hair color, autumn colors. Thank you so so much.
@@booksandquills Before I was really hooked by the book I made 2 attempts to read it but was putting the book away as soon as Nelly was starting the narrative, in the very beginning. The timing for a book was not perfect. This year I made a 3rd attempt and I am thrilled to see what happens next.
Brand new subscriber here...loved this video on so many levels...your voice and pacing was perfect...also enjoyed the picture you painted by the creek..sweet..:)
I’m going to Haworth for 3 nights at the beginning of November and this has made me so excited! The itv Wuthering Heights adaptation is my absolute favourite and I had no idea you could visit where it was filmed so thank you so much for mentioning this, will definitely give it a visit! 😄😆
I love this video so much! I feel like it's the intersection of all of my interests haha. Love your appreciation for the English landscape, I would highly recommend the Northumberland coast if you haven't been (most beautiful beaches in England imo)
Loved this video, such a gorgeous place you went to, thank you for letting us travel along with you on this trip as well as with your Brontë reading journey. Interesting to here what you think about the other books. And looking forward to the Edinburgh videos!
Thank you for this enchanting video! I studied Jane Eyre in uni, and it is till this day one of my favorite novels ever. I will definitely go there someday also!
Such a lovely video! I haven't read anything by the Brontë Sisters but I am currently reading the Dutch book Het Lied van Ooievaar en Dromedaris van Anjet Daantje which is a fiction book inspired by the work and live of the sisters and specifically Emily, like a fictional biography if that is a thing based on a lot of research. It is a big book but I am loving it, I am now prosponing reading the last chapter because I don't want it to be over hahah. I would definitely recommend it! (only in Dutch sadly as far as I know)
Oh wow!! I've seen this around in Dutch bookshops (and thought it looked beautiful) but had no idea what it was about. Definitely picking that up next time I'm visiting the Netherlands, thank you!
I’ve never seen or read wuthering heights and never read Jane Eyre but have seen many versions and even a lovely play up in London twenty/ thirty years ago x but am going through the Anne of Green gables series as I only ever read Anne’s House of dreams back in the 80’s. But I’m glad there are some books I’ve yet to read for the first time ever x
Wonderful video! As an Anglophile trapped in the United States videos like this can tide me over until I can finally make the trip myself. Also, sorry you didn’t like ‘Villette’ as much. It takes awhile to get going but I remember it building to quite a powerful and melancholic love story. If you haven’t read “The Tenant of Wildfell Hall,” I’d recommend that one next.
I'm currently reading Villette to. It's my penultimate Bronte novel, after this I only have The professor left! I really enjoy Lucy snows character, she is so crass and unbending. I can't believe this was written in the 1850´s! I think you would love the Tenant of Wildfell Hall as your next read. I really enjoyed the perspective shift and structure of the book and that the main character is a painter 🎨✨
@@booksandquills No, I think it just ended up being the last because it's the one I've heard the least about. If I'm not mistaken it's kind of similar to Villette, so I think it will be a while until I get to it. Also it's nice to have one last to look forward to. :)
It's the Royal Talens Art Creation Sketchbook (12x12). I prefer the Moleskin Watercolour sketchbook, but it's twice the size, so I use this one on the go as a more budget friendly alternative.
Hi. This was a really interesting video. I love the Brontes work too. I was interesting to hear your thoughts on the myths and on how loaded a biography can be. Have you read Mrs Gaskell's biography of Charlotte? It's interesting to consider her bias as a friend of Charlotte's. Also, Branwell has written some very interesting work. Have you read anything of his?

I love watching all of your videos. I was just wondering how did you get to Haworth? When I went I stayed in Bradford then had to get two buses from there to get to Haworth. I'd also love to know where you recommend staying in Haworth?
Thank you! There’s a pretty fast ‘Brontë bus’ from Keighley station (which is easy to reach from London by train). And there’s loads of accommodation choice in Haworth, from hotels to cottages and AirBnbs depending on your budget and vibe. But I’d recommend top of the street 😉
@@booksandquills Thanks so much. I may go to Haworth again at some point as I would like to walk round the moors to the waterfall and the Wuthering Heights setting. I didn't get to go to either of those places when I last went there

You can hide the stains on the handkerchiefs by dyeing with black tea and you'll have that lovely old off-white lace colour.
