As for micheal kiske he was not the first choice that was ralph sheepers But he turned helloween down at the time. So they approached micheal kiske who at first was also turning them down. And only finnaly agreed to join helloween at the last minute after kai had pretty much sung the whole keepers one album. And was pretty much mixed except for the lead guitars. Personally I am more of a kai fan for helloween and ralph sheepers fan.
This song sounds a bit musically like man on a mission from gamma rays land of the free mixed in with some old school stratovarius. But still sounds unique which is good. As for the kai comparisons musically Both Tommy and kai are a rare breed because both are good at singing and both are great lead and rhythm guitar players who can play a lot of different styles. Where most guitarists that sing typically only play rhythm guitar. Or if they ate great at guitar tend to just focus on one or the other. In a band.
As someone that can hit these notes and have some degree of confidence while singing power metal for refence let me just say it is an insane amount of work. I wouldn't say I practiced the hardest but I would push my self and train moderately, it took me about 5 years starting from knowing nothing about vocals to being where I am now. Granted my teachings have all been self taught, that 5 year span probably could had been halved with a good tutor.
He's gone down some octaves from the original recording. He can still sing brilliantly but it does annoy me at times when singers compose things that they can't do live like Metallica composing in standard tuning but then have to go down by a semi tone live or sabaton (seven pillars of wisdom) for example. Take nothing away from their talent. I just think that if you're gonna compose something that you know you can pull off live then make sure you're capable of doing it.

You can be an extraordinary guitarist and on point, and as soon as you try to sing along too (let alone lead singer) either your hands or your voice/vocal performance go to sh!t and off time. Tommy is Crazy man, singing at that level is hard enough, playing guitar at that level is hard enough, but both at the same time is just insane! The man is crazy talented and you can tell just loves the genre he is in, especially with how many more obscure projects he will lend his talents too.

That bass in the beginning and the initial scream gives me goosebumps every time. Remember it from the Boden show. It is good on the recording but totally different live.

Which is why Kai Hanson moved over and got Michael Kiske to sing, back in the early Helloween days. That was a good choice.
