One thing you are beginning to realize……you are never finished. It is never perfect. I have completely redesigned my whole Lego room several times. One big reason is…..Lego keeps coming out with new sets and pieces. The best decision you can make is to decide what themes and sets, just don’t fit in your city. Most cities don’t have castles, or theme parks in them. That is why I stay away from rides and etc , because they take up so much space (and they are very expensive).
I disagree if you like a lego kit because for what ever reason you just like it. incorporate it into your city.... did you enjoy picking the kit out at the store enjoy building and enjoy looking at it... then put that lego Pirate ship right in the middle of your layout.... as you said its always changing.... so just have fun.... some people think the lego city police or "President Buisiness" is going to come get them if something doesnt make sense.
@@danielledesma9938 …..I guess we are finished when we just can’t afford the ever increasing prices of Lego.. when I started building my city 7 years ago, $200- $250 was a big price for a City set……now that’s the low end of prices. Sets I paid $25-$35 for 2 years ago are now $70-$90. The last few big sets released are $500, or more. That’s just impossible to afford. 15lbs of plastic just isn’t worth that kind of money.
One thing I’ve learned about building a Lego city is that you have to do things you like and not listen to others and not compare to others. Doing so will only make you unhappy with yours. I never liked the different elevations personally but do what makes you happy. An idea for Rivendale and castle sets in general is to make a renaissance festival area. At least that is what I plan to do.
That's a great idea. I don't think I'll ever be able to afford the Rivendell set (and I'd prefer to save my cash for modular buildings etc, as much as I'm impressed by Rivendell, although I'll definitely use some of the building techniques once the instructions are online), but if I could afford it, I'd try to do what you're planning, and find a way to seamlessly incorporate it within my contemporary Lego City. A renaissance festival area is a good plan.
Ok, you've motivated me to comment! 1) Change the city around all you want. You learn what you really like as you go along. 2) Good grief, get rid of that wallpaper. Painting, so much better, easier too. 3) You've got a big low (6-7""? ) platform that you could repurpose to give height to your landscaping. Maybe put Rivendell on it? 4) The river...maybe shouldn't have a right angle? Make a swooping curve? Only me? 5) Brilliant to include Rivendell. You could build in the Hobbit burrow too. Any foresty. outdoor, medieval stuff would look great in that kind of setting. 6) Rebuild modular city on the right hand side. Doesn't even have to integrate with the landscape area. 7) Also random character placement is 👍. Good luck!
Extending the "nature" area is a great idea & I enjoy seeing you being creative, more than watching reviews that we can find on so many channels. I also enjoy Lego landscaping, I think it's very relaxing & is a great way to discover new building techniques. Move the 1st rank of modular, make a lake or a river that gives sense to the waterfall & you'll be able to integrate the medieval castle & maybe Rivendell, which both integrate water in the set.. Keep building!👍👍👍 More MOCs, less reviews 😉
I feel like adding more variation of set size along with freestyle areas like plazas/alleys/roads would vary the downtown and make it more realistic and have more depth. I think a lot of the CITY series shops are overlooked, like the bank of grocery store, they add realness by adding small scale storefronts like you'd see in a real city + they have room to build bigger builds around it. I think yeah, more freestyle building and details with smaller sets would make the city really great. Also some more structure to the city, like with a main plaza or town square, etc. to break up the rows. I do like the idea you had with the varied heights though, it would look amazing with walls + roads that blend them together.
Hey! Love the idea of extending the natural Beauty is a great solution! One tip is you should add lots of trees, bushes, and trails when you can make it like a mountain! For the downtown, you should make the Eiffel tower in the center and modular building surrounding it with roads! So it can look like a masterpiece!
The Lego city would be better flat. Maybe you can make a snowy area part of the hills, with skiing etc. Something to keep in mind is the visibility of the modulars if they move places
1:46 The midevil knight minifig in the camp could be L.A.R.P.ing (live action role play) which would be pretty cute, “lightning bolt! Lightning bolt! Lightningbolt!!”
I would replace your current city area with the amusement park... then make part of it be the nature area, so that it's like another land in it. you can have a river go through the center of it if you want. Then use the areas for Rivendale/LOTR to be a themed area in the park. That's what I would do.
Like what you did around the cabin and the girl scouts etc. If I'm honest I really don't like the waterfall, I just saw how it's done in the new Rivendale set and that looks so much better.
Extend your sea/water as well! the work you do with the water is great and you could also make some islands will a couple modulars. Like maybe a shopping island or a winter island and with how many space ships you have maybe Ross can have fun converting them to sea faring boats :) I though the hilly city was a good idea but would be very difficult to accomplish. i know in lego games like lego undercover they have some hilly areas that look good but they also cheat bc the road isnt lego.
Sorry just giggling at the irony and humour. There is a well, with a bucket, next to the river, next to the fire hydrant that has water coming out of it! LOVE!
I love the new sand cliffs, because unlike the hills and walls they have less straight lines and more variations in color. Also, I like the location of downtown.
You should use the walls for other legosets, maybe the Lego art ones, make it say Ladyburg or Emmasaurus. or get the new flowerartset. it will be a great back in the videos when you show your city. or shelves with your other sets like Brixie had before he rearranged everything. You could also use the big figurines, that you have written all the names on your streams. Check out Bevins bricks he do great mocs, now when you have started to do more mocs. Have a look at his new trainstation, it's amazing.
The well does make sense by the river because of the fact that the river is very close to the sea making the river tidal meaning th sea water would come in with the tide. Therefore you would need a well for a fresh water source
If I were you, I'd remove the wallpaper and straight up paint the walls. I think in the long run it'll look much, much better and you'll be happy 🙂 Heck yes, to a Middle Earth section! What if Rivendell was up on a hill overlooking the forest below? That way you wouldn't have to get rid of your platforms.
I went ahead and "pulled the trigger" on painting (repainting) my lego shed with a good light blue. It was absolutely worth it. Your terrain is fantastic. That's very (expensive) to do, and your technique looks great. Also happy to see the waterfall come out good! Don't beat yourself up about Downtown. We are our own biggest critics.
Paint is easier than wallpaper. Remove trim & covers, tape, & drop cloths. With paint brush, cut in all inside corners & roll all the flat. Paint will get spilled & splattered.
Your city area looks fine , even Gaudi had to start someplace . The grassy knoll leading to the A-Frame truly looks amazing . Problems with the waterfall ??? Its Lego !! it is supposed to be a magic waterfall !! Later guys , D.
Another idea would be to lay out your roads so it’s not going off a Cliff so to speak. I like the natural area and waterfall . I guess you could give it a source for the waterfall. A frame is awesome and the little path to the fire. I also like the walls where the elevation changed.
I love the mini land speeder on the beach. Have you considered adding a paddle wheeler in the water out from the beach? You could make a pier with a small casino like in Ozark. The downtown is ok, but I do like the idea of building up the natural area. Was waiting for the blue background - paint would be better and more consistent.
I was waiting for this. Tbh the downtown always didn’t look the greatest Imo. Don’t take that the wrong way it’s a learning experience. Maybe when you redo that top area don’t do just grass. Incorporate some different environments such as swamp, winter area, desert, rocky places, more water area, etc
Waterfall is coming from an underground river under the city. The city planners when building the city didn't know that it is a recipe for disaster, but hey, that is why there are so many emergency response vehicles :) Hope to see more trees in the natural area over time. Still looks great. Love the scout troop.
I really like the variety in elevation difference in the city how you have it. Could build rock walls to connect the levels. The waterfall could start behind the city and have been diverted under the city. This is actually common in mountain towns that have spring fed rivers.
Um so I love you’re city the way it is second the down town is a work in progress and I have a city so I know how hard it is to make it look good and I love the nature area so the reason we haven’t said anything is because we love you’re city and what you’re doing.❤
Emma you’re so creative, it’s actually amazing. No one else would have thought about having a Girl Scout troop, I’m going to start taking inspiration from you 🙂🙂
Don't get too frustrated about it! Change and experimentation is what keeps large scale LEGO building interesting. You haven't run out of space, time or ideas and that's the most important thing!
Landscaping technique and the way it looks are great. I would say you probably need to add a lot more trees, minifigures or soemthing so you don't just have a huge grassy, barren hillside.
I think your Lego city looks really good especially the natural section. I think making a Lord of the Rings natural area extension is a great idea. I understand how much work and money and time it takes to build all this stuff. I did think the downtown section didn't really make a lot of sense either but I thought you and Ross liked it so I didn't really say anything. I think an elevated downtown would still look good and maybe have an underground subway station. Just my 2 cents. Like I said I know this is a giant work in progress.
Agreed about a subway system. With the built up rural section, there's enough room to incorporate a looped train track across the entire city space, and have it emerge at a subway station within the downtown section of the City. So many possibilities.
I love your city, but I'll make a couple of suggestions. If you have a look at the grassy, shore plants you will see a mixture of different kinds of plants including some flowering types. So maybe just throw in a few randoms there. Possibly some randome rocky outcrops. Re the city, maybe look for ideas in real life. Brighton in the UK seems comparable... But I like what you have done. The waterfall especially is genius.
Really liking your natural area of the city. I'm working on something similar with mine, with a downtown on one side and then a woodsy area of cabins and trails on the other. Just started converting to MILS, which will probably be a year long process to do the whole city. As for the European style downtown, you might make the streets a lot narrower (think a double wide bike path and not a road) and do gradual steps up between buildings, like maybe 2 or 3 bricks, I think the gap between the levels you had is just too extreme and sudden. Your vision is definitely giving me ideas for when I make it to converting the downtown.
Going from city to forrest needs to be a gradual build up, take your time with it. I think Ross used a Jedi mind trick for you to want to also add on Rivendell to the build😂
Wall paper has a specific code for the color matching. It could be the same packaging but, if this code change, it's normal to not have the same color. In french, it's call the "bain" of the wall paper, litteraly, the bath of the wall paper.
I have an idea. I think that around the cabin, you should add like a forest area. I know that you’re gonna add stuff to the plains area, but this will make it look a little more interesting. I dunno, just an idea.
Rivendell and Hobbits is it's own thing, I'd keep that separate from the city. Also scrap that big upside down cloud mustache on the waterfall, it just needs a couple clouds at the bottom imo, good luck going forward!
Emma, if anyone asks why, like the well, just reply with. " 'cause LEGO ", deal with it. Not supposed to make sense. I mean, watch the LEGO movie again. Nothing makes sense. It is imagination. As for the City, I believe the main issue is that you have building with no roads, or space for roads and backs of buildings facing the fronts of the ones behind them.
personally I don’t feel the downtown area looks bad but you can take inspiration from national parks and reserves and replicate how they divide the natural greenery from the blocky city
Its a lego city!!! people its LEGO doesn't have to make "sense" thats the beauty of building a layout out of legos its about having fun and creating a world of your own out of Legos. For any of those critics out there that say it "Dont make sense" they are modeling with the wrong medium there are hobby stores loaded with scale models they can build to their hearts content and even count every rivet to make sure it is in perfect scale reproduction of the originals... What I love about Legos is that it dosent have to make sense if you want a mid-evil castle right in the middle of your downtown then that would be Awesome.... some people forget or lose focus on the true beauty of lego.... its all inclusive boys girls men women at any age can enjoy legos its just about having fun. tell the nay sayers to go back and rewatch the Lego movie. Everything is AWESOME!!!.. I love watching your videos very entertaining and informative and you two definitely capture the true meaning of Lego. Build together and have fun keep up the great work.
Hi! A few suggestions. If you're going to have a rustic/rural area away from the downtown part (which is great, and I wish I had the room to do what you're doing), I'd suggest making room not just for Rivendell (which is a great idea by the way) but also for the upcoming Hocus Pocus Sandleton Sisters' Cottage and for the rumoured Snow White and the Seven Dwarves Cottage set. Do you have the Home Alone House? If so, that could be part of a suburb located between the downpart part of the city and the rural area, Also, another rumoured set is a Lego Art Piece featuring Gotham City from Batman: The Animated Series. I don't know how it will turn out, but I envision using that piece as a type of 'wallpaper' to place at the back of my city, to suggest a larger scale. I know it can be a bit of a risk planning for *rumoured* sets as opposed to released and guaranteed sets, but it might be worth considering these Lego leaks and rumours, as well as guaranteed forthcoming sets like the aforementioned Hocus Pocus set, in designing your city. Also, I wonder if the BTS set that's due to be revealed this week, will be something that can be easily incorporated into a Lego City.
You can ask your landlord if they will allow you to paint provided you paint it back to their original color when you move and it not effect your security deposit.
I love your lego city cause i could never but i have build lots of stuff before like in those lego how to build but once i build a baby yoda with out the manual pieace and did it just by looking at how it looked i actually did it and it pretty big. What i think would make or help your city is make/build the golden gate bridge and the water fall should be connected to mountains and make the mountins foggy like up in the sky
Love your videos. So to be honest. I don’t like the grassland at all. Takes up too much space and yes your city is hidden. Hard to see other buildings. Hope this helps! Also good luck
the wallpaper is made in batches check the batch number bet its off thats why you have color shade difference thats why buy wallpaper in a shop to match the numbers
Give me your ideas!! How do I make the LEGO City better?
blow out the walls and expand ;)
Maybe when you move the city down do a L shape with all the modular buildings and put the Eiffel tower where the City is now.
Make the downtown area more flat btw the natural area looks soooo goood
you can possibly make the middle earth area behind a mountain where the downtown area currently is
Maybe use the platforms to create a Hill for the castle since they are often build on top of one.

Rivendell should be your starting point for your waterfall.
You need to put some trees and flowers to break up all the green of the grass.
Add a forest and maybe a cave in the hills if that's doable
I was there actually about to say that i
I would replace your current city area with the amusement park... then make part of it be the nature area, so that it's like another land in it. you can have a river go through the center of it if you want. Maybe you can add some elves sets near the natural area. You have really cool Ideas!
What about a mountain? Or like a town that lives on the Mountain, OR A VOLCANO!!!

I love the new LEGO City Update! The new buildings and cobblestone roads look amazing and make me excited to build my own city. Great work LEGO!
Paint is easier than wallpaper.
Remove trim & covers, tape, & drop cloths. With paint brush, cut in all inside corners & roll all the flat.
Paint will get spilled & splattered.
That wallpaper "paint" stuff looks like a huge pain in the a**
the cabin goes great with the forest in the backgroung
Looks good to me !

2)Mix the grey wall with other colours

How about instead of a city you make a large Mountain town, like Banff, etc. I love the nature feel you have going.
If so, that could be part of a suburb located between the downpart part of the city and the rural area,
Also, another rumoured set is a Lego Art Piece featuring Gotham City from Batman: The Animated Series.
Damn creeping up on 100k sub! Well done!
You should make a swampy area, With a fishing shack
Make sure you check batch numbers for wallpaper
No notes or suggestions. But we wish you a hearty congratulations on transcending the Dunning-Kruger effect threshold :D
I love it I wish I had some like that my self my friends
You can ask your landlord if they will allow you to paint provided you paint it back to their original color when you move and it not effect your security deposit.
If you are a professional Minecrafter then you are a professional Lego builder too
That could be very nice to have the Eiffel tower at the middle of downtown with a nice garden in front
Woah 90+K subsss almost 100k!!!
It's amazing
I feel like the meadow/beach area is the most important art of the while lego city.
What about different levels under the city? There could be sewers, subways, secret hide outs ect.
You should add a pipe at the top of the waterfall and if your concerned with cash you could get a 3rd printer and just print legos...
Rivendale and the hobbit house should definitely go in the big field
I love your lego city cause i could never but i have build lots of stuff before like in those lego how to build but once i build a baby yoda with out the manual pieace and did it just by looking at how it looked i actually did it and it pretty big. What i think would make or help your city is make/build the golden gate bridge and
the water fall should be connected to mountains and make the mountins foggy like up in the sky
You know? I think it’s time Rapunzel comes…
IF YOU SEE THIS AND HAVE TIME COULD YOU DO ITTTT
or wait?
Do you have it?
Could you add a cowboy riding a dinosaur 😂
You can take some inspiration from brickcrafts. He has an amazing Lego city, and has opened a small museum. Moving on, your Lego city looks amazing!
I’m very excited for the lord of the rings area!!
Love your videos. So to be honest. I don’t like the grassland at all. Takes up too much space and yes your city is hidden. Hard to see other buildings. Hope this helps! Also good luck
the water fall should be connected to mountains and make the mountins foggy like up in the sky
You should make stop motion videos out of legos
the wallpaper is made in batches check the batch number bet its off thats why you have color shade difference thats why buy wallpaper in a shop to match the numbers
