very cool to hear him talk about his way. Through him I learned of and read Fairfield Porter's Art In Its Own Terms and then, in Downes' intro to Porter's book, learned of an earlier collection of art criticism by Eugène Fromentin, Masters Of Past Time. This collection of videos on Downes deepen further my awareness of the magic of painting and the realization that even though I have painted a lot already, there is much more to discover. Plus, seeing his set up, is informative. Thanks!
This working with emptiness is playing with landscape allows the mind to populate the canvas with ghosts of what could have, should have, was going to, had once been occupying a space now vacant. I can almost hear the voices of young people softly being carried on the wind.
really great, love Art 21, a huge resource. And to hear Rackstone talking about his work and process
