Looks like a nice campsite. Lovely views. Reminded us that we have not been to Wales since 2018. I would love to go down those mines with you, very interesting to see all the old buildings at the top. The train ride looked very enjoyable. I can’t remember if we’ve done that route. We have ridden some of the trains. Good to see you out with Chas. Looking forward to meeting you in June 🚐👍🏻 Trev
Missed this one, Alex. Looks like a really enjoyable trip and the mine stuff was particularly interesting. You're really getting the use out of the new van and us lot out here are benefiting too. Cheers! 👍
Good video as always Alex I especially enjoyed your underground exploration. The mine was very interesting and obviously held lots of mining history and if the walls could talk they would have loads of interesting tales to tell. Thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks Eric. I do find abandoned mines very atmospheric. Artifacts tend to stay better preserved underground too, especially in the less visited sites.
I’m sure many people skip these type of videos to their detriment but I find stuff like this fascinating although I’d definitely not go underground alone, the older we get the more we regress to the past and that mine visit was interesting, not usually a steam fan although I’ve done that line a few times, I did once luckily (for me) get a diesel locomotive.
Going underground alone I'd definitely advised against especially if inexperienced but I am reasonably familiar with that mine and happy with the risk level for a solo trip. Mines and quarry enthusiasts do tend to also be interested in rail stuff as the two histories are pretty intertwined. Nikki certainly loves a steam train ride more than a mine trip though 🤣
Nice one, Alex. Any chance you might take a floodlight with you when you go underground? It would help make the spaces more interesting, maybe? Just a thought. My other half has a very bad knee and is hoping for some progress regarding surgery, soon! It really does hinder our activities when we are away in the van.
Yes, I do usually try and take a bit more light. There are some other underground videos on the channel which are better lit. Knees seem to be an issue for a lot of folk at the moment 😕
They are probably a requirement in working mines but we tend to avoid them when exploring abandoned mines. When you are climbing and clambering about they tend to cause problems getting stuck in crevices etc and take away a bit of flexibility.

Thanks Trev, you'd be welcome to come along on a mine trip sometime. I do like Wales, there's something for everyone there I think 🙂👍

Oh yes, Blaneau Ffestiniog is a great place, it's a shame more folk don't visit. The huge slate mines are amazing. Glad you enjoyed the video 🙂

Do you have to have steel toe capped boots for the mines?
