Remember that a new CBA goes into effect before the 2027 season, right before the salary of Gimenez escalates to $23.5M annually. The luxury tax threshold will be increased, and who knows where player salaries go with that new CBA.
I heard David Samson talk about tv deals needing to be renegotiated as well. Apparently, MLB wants them all and then wants to sell them thru streaming. (And end blackouts) Not sure how that will hurt the Jays (if at all - if true) considering they underpay themselves for TV rights and average over 300k more viewers than NYY (in a good year)
20 million a season for a guy who doesn’t help the offense? Doesn’t hit for power, doesn’t walk. Team has limited dollars to spend. Nice player but this makes no sense to me given the current roster.
@@tabletopcorner2357 yeah we will see. Fans are over estimating what they are going to spend. With this trade they take on a good amount of salary and it will limit who else they sign
The blue jays do have Alan Roden who’s a lefty and hit very well in triple A. I think he could leadoff. But Andres can’t be in the top three he has to hit 4-5 especially with how bad he hit with the guardians lineup. The Jays have to sign Santander and Corbin Burnes to make this deal make sense. Especially with no Vladdy Extension
This trade is a Win straight up Look at it from a buisness not heart standpoint Horowitz one year in books that’s it he’s ok nothing spectacular Nothing proven yet New player 3 gold gloves , younger , control thru 2030 , and 30 SB last year which we need speed on bases Horowitz had no speed . This trade is a win and a proven player and great in the clubhouse as a leader Elite defense on team infield and out leads to Corbin Burnes next ! More to come just wait
Horwitz OPS 125 - Gimmy OPS 82. This means Horwitz is a much better offensive player. Horwitz WAR is 1.2 - Gimmy is 4. This means when they play Gimmy has more value to winning. BUT!!!!! Like most stats saying Gimmy is more valuable at winning, tells one part of an infinite story. Jays need offense to win - that's what's more valuable for them. Their overall improvement must come via offense not defense. It's like you have a hole in the boat, then sell your patch kit for a rudder that makes your steering stronger, yet there was nothing wrong with the steering strength, it was doing fine enough - you need to fix the hole. They spent a whole season grooming Horwitz at 2nd. They have made knee jerk move after knee jerk move to get a left hitting power guy - even drafted Horwitz for that reason. Then trade Horwitz for another IKF, tighten the defense on a offensively struggling team. Atkins decisions can be deemed mental retardation. Switching his "game plan" year to year so dramatically - the proof is in his results. Point is! Make a trade for a 3rd baseman, OF without giving away offense, if you can't sign one - we didn't need a defensive light hitting 2nd baseman.
We could have done better with that RP. Cleveland had half a dozen guys over 200 era+ in the bullpen and we grabbed the average guy? Gimenez is Another guy who makes this team amazing..if..
Jays don’t need another starting pitcher THEY HAVE 5 ALREADY They need relievers and a real CLOSER Get a brain you two CLOSER!!! Romano is gone we have no closer wake up 😂
Did you finish shoveling the driveway?
It was finished 🫡
You guys are little overhyped about a 27yr old rookie who player 4 months with no position to play on team
Us in Pittsburgh don’t know what to make of Spencer Horwitz very indifferent about the trade
If they don't get teo or Santander they are f'd

But Soto did at 50+ and is barely average defensively and a 285 career hitter with no spped
The Jays seem to get "Below Average" hitters.
Atkins seems to love them
Gimenez isn’t even below average he’s a horrible hitter.
@@leam89 Looks to be another lost off season for the Jays where it is sub par at best......unless somehow they surprise us.
@@tabletopcorner2357 yeah we will see. Fans are over estimating what they are going to spend. With this trade they take on a good amount of salary and it will limit who else they sign
Bargain bin shopping, Atkins bottom of the barrel scraping for crap players who can’t hit. IKF was fine and then they flipped him, he was decent

You guy seem to forget that Bo Bichette is still on our team , and last year he was hurt and had a bad season!!!
With inflation and he keeps as a 4 WAR player and moves to short it could be a very good player.

If this is the only position trade of any "note" then yawn.
Today. Burnes. Santander. Hensley now that would be legit. Bulllpen solidified, starters fire and linup trending.
Losing Spencer will come back to haunt the Jay's.
Now that he’s traded again to Pittsburgh prob not lol

Late for the party guys this is already old news.shocking😅
Quite possibly the least exciting trade in Blue Jays history. There is absolutely ZERO excitement in Gimenez.
Another infielder that can't hit bad trade for jays
They need hitting. Now that they've traded their 2nd best hitter from last season now they need even more hitting.
