Mid century or earlier Straits Chinese pendant set with diamonds weighing 6ctw in 20k.
This magnificent pendant is made up of diamonds that are all not small, each diamond is 15 point.
Diamonds are VS F/G quality, of transitional old cuts.
At 5cm tall, antique cluster pendants in this size are far and few, this is a regal ‘timepiece’.
This earlier make of Straits Chinese jewelry is telling from how its body of diamonds drapes like fabric.
The clever use of tiny nails at very specific points in the cups hold and drape the cluster together.
Wearing a pendant this size will overwhelm if not for its great form, streamlined and almost silky.
Because your eyes cannot really make out the prong work, the shine of the diamonds appear to overlap, closing the gaps with their fire.
The Victorian influence of lavaliere pendants can be seen here. In fact, this is the biggest pendant we’ve had with such a big piece of swing drop, over 5 carats of diamonds, cloistered in a 3.5cm space!
