  • This is a tour of the Banzaan Food Market located in Patong Beach, Phuket. The Banzaan Food Market, or Banzaan Fresh Market as it is actually called, is easy to find as it is located opposite three large landmarks (buildings) on Road 4055 (Google Maps) namely, the back entrance to the Jungceylon Shopping Mall, the Bangla Boxing Stadium and the Tiger Complex where it is difficult not to miss seeing the signature tigers all over the building.
    The Banzaan Food Market is by day a Fresh Food Market selling vegetables, fruit, pork, beef, poultry, dried foods and seafood such as salt water fish, freshwater fish, shellfish, crabs, prawns and did we forget to mention eels and frogs... This food market opens it´s doors at 07:00 a.m. and closes again at 17:00 (everybody is welcome). This Market is such an amazing experience to visit but very few European tourists visiting Phuket seem to have discovered this very clean fresh food market, which is very popular with the Asian tourists. The Banzaar Market has two floors, the ground floor where the fruit, vegetables, seafood, poultry, beef and pork are sold and the the first floor where there are some clothing vendors and the very larger food court where you can bring your purchased foods and have them cooked to your fancy at an agreed price, like a Thai Street Food Market, only you are the one bringing the very fresh ingredients from the market. Whether you are living in Patong Beach, or Kata Beach, Karon Beach or Kammala Beach the Banzaar Food Market is easily accessible for a fantastic day trip. If you are coming from Kata, Karon or Kammala Beach a taxi or tuktuk ride will bring you to the main entrance of this fresh food market for a reasonable pre-negotiated price.
    During the evening the area around the Banzaan Fresh Market becomes a Thai Street Food Market from where you can buy all sorts of freshly made international and Thai Foods.
    We hope you enjoy this no comments tour of the Banzaan Fresh Market with us (Maxi and Maro). Please leave a comment or LIKE if you enjoyed the video and also SUBSCRIBE to our channel to be alerted when we upload new videos.

      Glad you found it interesting FA! If you like to eat fresh seafood in Phuket, Thailand then this is the place. Choose your own fresh foods downstairs and then go upstairs to the Food Court and have one of the kitchens cook for you, Yummy! Have a lovely weekend, best regards from Denmark!

    Amazing video!!! I am going to Patong this November for 2 weeks and will definitely check out that market. I hope they are open when I'm there because I hear that it might rain half of November.

      Glad to hear that you enjoyed the video, the Banzaan Market is really a worthwhile visit for lovers of fresh food markets. Don´t forget that you can buy the fresh foods downstairs and have them cooked in the "Food Court" upstairs. The Banzaan Market is open all year round as far as we remember. Not sure how the weather is in November but do know that the official High Season for Patong (Phuket) begins around the middle of December so it cannot be all that bad? We wish you a fantastic holiday to Patong Beach and if you are interested in seeing more of our Patong and Thailand videos you can watch them here ua-cam.com/video/VYcecaa98XI/v-deo.html Thanks for watching and commenting!

      It is a fantastic market indeed, very well worth a visit or two or three or... :-D We always buy seafood at the market and have them cook it upstairs! Have a good time there in October! Thanks for watching and commenting!

      how expensive is it to cook the fresh seafood upstairs? could you tell me what you would buy how much it would cost and how much it cost to cook it ? Thank you very much.

    • @TravellerYT
      @TravellerYT  8 років тому

      Hi Leandro, we payed around 300 Baht to cook a kilo of prawns and a kilo of clams (not the cheapest considering you have to add the price you paid for the seafood to the total - it´s more about the experience). Regarding prices, if you watch the video we have filmed the prices next to many of the foods (prices are mainly per/kilo). As already mentioned the price of the seafood and the cooking does not end up very much cheaper than at a restaurant (at least not prawns and crabs) but you are sure of getting some very fresh seafood that you have picked out yourself, and the experience is very worthwhile, have fun :-D

      +Traveller ok thanks you a lot. Do they have little spots selling cooked fresh seafood in that market? Or is it all raw for you to cook. I'm planning on going in January

    • @TravellerYT
      @TravellerYT  8 років тому

      Hi again Leandro, during the evening outside the market hall there is a night market which sells cooked seafood. Inside the hall the food is raw and must be taken upstairs to be cooked (they do I good job of it).

    REALLY NICE VIDEO I HAVE A QUESTION IF WE BUY SEAFOOD & MEAT FROM THE GROUND FLOOR WILL THE RESTAURANTS ON 1ST FLOOR COOK IT FOR ME & HOW MUCH DO THEY CHARGE

    • @TravellerYT
      @TravellerYT  7 років тому

      Hi there Excel Industries, you are correct you can buy fresh food downstairs and have it cooked upstairs. We had some prawns and clams cooked and as far as I remember we paid between 100 and 150 Baht for each. They did a really good job too, we will edit a video about that in the future! Hope that answer helps?

    Dear sir, at the beginning of the video i saw a fleeting glimps of a hanging strand of petai (stink beans) at a vegetable stand. many years ago i did not see it in markets in bangkok. is it now common in thailand.? i ask this because i was born in Indonesia where the petai is highly prized

    • @TravellerYT
      @TravellerYT  6 років тому

      Hi there Frank, thanks for your question. We often travel to Koh Samui in June/July and Phuket in December/January. We can confirm that during both seasons we see the petai /stink beans) on sale at many of the Thai Markets. Here is a video of a market in Koh Samui where you can also see them hanging ua-cam.com/users/edit?o=U&video_id=INcmNuXyncg Hope this information answers your question. Have a good weekend.

    How will I know if a fruit or vegetable is valued at per kilo or per piece? Like I've seen so many different signs saying different things in thai so please help.

    • @TravellerYT
      @TravellerYT  8 років тому

      You can always ask the seller and then use some common sense regarding prices per piece or kilo. Convert the price in your head and then decide whether the price is reasonable compared to home or the price at normal "fixed price" supermarkets in Thailand! Happy eating! :-D
