This is completely irrelevant to the video but I just wanted to thank you I got 2 9s for my English GCSE and I owe it all to you and your videos!! I hated English and honestly still do but you made learning for the exam so enjoyable :)) I cant thank you enough and I would have probably got 5s if it wasn’t for your videos! THANK YOUU :)))

god it's sooo difficult for me too, not just to do well but to actually have motivation to do it since I don't really enjoy English either. I'm currently a 9 in lang and 8 in lit, can't get a 9 whatsoever and I don't know why... my exam board is eduqas too so it's not as easy to just follow tips from this channel. But I'll keep trying!!

Hi mr salles, I’ve always wondered something- for english lit, do you get more marks / impress the examiner more if you use quotes that are less commonly used by other students? Like is it worth memorising some quotes that many others won’t know about?

If they fit your argument, that is possible

I personally don't think it matters what quotes you use as long as you analyse them well in a unique and insightful way; the analysis is what counts, not the quote itself, at least from my perspective

Hi Sir, love your videos, but I'm just finding it difficult to navigate around your channel. Do you have any playlists for English Language/An Inspector Calls/Poetry? It would be a great help to find it all in one place.

@@MohamedMohamed-et5ts 1. Pay attention in class. When you go through your book or poem, your teacher will say interesting points that u must note down in your book. Analyse your book or poem as you go on.
      2. Read each text at least 3 times
      3. Watch Mr Salles' videos and type up notes onto a word document (or by hand if u want). Make sure you watch every single one of his videos related to your texts.
      4. Incorporate your teacher's points as well into your notes
      5. Have a few set points in your head for each character or theme
      6. When it comes to revision, go back and look over your notes and start writing paragraphs (You do not need to write full essays as I find it can be a little monotonous). Writing paragraphs can get you used to writing paragraphs in an exam. Do this WITHOUT looking at your notes
      7. To memorise quotes I would write half of the quote on one side of the flashcard and the other half on the other side
      8. Prepare your introduction for each essay beforehand and then adapt it to the question when you get into the exam hall
      9. At the beginning of your exam, annotate the text given because it can make the examiner think that you know a lot.
      10. Try to use sophisticated vocabulary but do not over do it. The writing paragraphs bit in step 6 should help you naturally add sophisticated words into your essay.
      11. Include the key word of the exam question into your essay as many times as possible. For example if they ask 'How is Family presented in A Christmas Carol' then you would mention the word FAMILY a lot in your essay
      12. Don't stick context randomly at the end of your paragraph. Try to incorporate it within the paragraph.
      13. Embed a lot of quotes into your essays, choose quotes that are unique like the ones Mr Salles uses.
      14. Finally do not stress over it, it doesn't matter if you get a 5 or a 9, once you get to A - Levels everyone will struggle no matter what grade they got at GCSE. Even if u don't get the grade u want at GCSE I am sure u will smash it at A - Levels if u decide to take english further. HOWEVER, I AM SURE THAT U WILL GET A 9, SO U GO FOR IT. Let me know what u get when it gets to GCSE results day.
Do u mind me asking what year you are in?

It has always been character and theme separately - however, to get top grades, treat the character question as a theme question

could you argue that Bob was the most influential in changing scrooge, as he metaphorically gave a lesson of fatherhood to scrooge(breaking the pattern of attachment), also it is a deliberate contrast to scrooges solitary state at school with no teacher, perhaps in order to criticize the 19th century schools which focused on memorizing passages of information and not actually allowing creativity, which of course was something Dickens strongly believed. He makes Scrooge imagine "Ali Baba" a character from The Arabian nights, illustrating how school should be an opportunity to develop creativity and imagination.
