I think his inability to catch a high ball probably slaughtered his chances
Mark Johnston I have never noticed significant issues under the high ball. I thought he was great defensively and at starting dangerous loose play attacks. He is also good at chasing kicks. Of all that didn’t make it, it’s him I feel sorry for the most because he has been the best wing for some years now ...until the last 3 months
@@Zomo1553 funny thing the past few years he has been mr dependable under the high ball and has been is one stand out feature with his speed. Guess the kick and chase will not be the default way of playing when you have speed merchants in the forwards.
I also was looking for May but he does seem like he would take this very hard regardless of the speed youngster being in the same locker room

I love Jonny Grey, but Lawes is a destroyer and they want to bring that tackling threat to a very physical SA, especially by bringing smaller faster #8's!
@@jordancox8280 Well? Didn't do it at world cup and Saffas? Love nothing more than a physical attriontional game and most of his late tackles? Late on a 9 or 10. Far De Klerk made Itoje look like a child. Their forwards can match it all day long
@@countycricklewood De Klerk is a one of a kind world class player! (My favourite player actually) so no disagreements there... Lawes is not late, it's a tactically perfect execution of a tackle on an unprepared body usually resulting in a knock on, handling error, morale boosting momentum. 10's and 9's are nervous when he's around, looking to play the ball a bit quicker and feeling rushed. He still tackles the big boys as well. Obviously WC19 final for whatever reason he had an off day (subbed at halftime) but then so did most of the English players. And Lawes is slightly more versatile than Grey too!
