I like how you give an authentic feeling to old school consoles. Kudos to the creativity. Definitely want to play some Diddy Kong Racing on that setup!
I try to stay away from most special editions and "collector's editions" for the same reason. It doesn't end up looking good when there are 20 different box sizes and totally inconsistent console branding stacked up.
Never Take Friendship Personal, what a great album. I haven't heard anything by Anberlin since Dark Is the Way, Light Is a Place, but I heard they released a new album earlier this year.
Smart choice on the scheme, it inspires one to be more productive. As for the cabinet where the CRT is resting on, I'll assume is real wood because there is no way most of today's furniture could handle such a tv, unless you spend hundreds or you're lucky to find a deal. Either way this setup is clean.
Thank you! Yup, it is solid pine and quite sturdy. The 13" CRT isn't too heavy though. I bought it several years ago before I owned a car and managed to carry it about a mile and a half to get it home! (And I'm not super strong.)
Another great video! Your game room tour (amazing BTW!) helped me find this video, and your home office is definitely impressive. Wish mine were as nice. I used to have a similar 13" Sony TV, and everything looked great on it. Wish I still had it. Can you give more details about your MS Teams/videoconferencing setup? I know you said it was overkill, but definitely interested in hearing about the audio (mic) and webcam (DSLR?) and lighting setup and what you use to integrate it all. Also love the vintage stereo equipment. Nice work putting it all together!
Thanks for watching both videos! Glad that you enjoyed them. For my Teams camera setup, it's a Nikon Z6 with a 24mm f/1.8 lens. I usually leave the lens manually focused on my seating position. The camera has a full-frame sensor, which produces better images than any webcam will. The lens is wide but produces pleasing background blur. I could use a longer lens better for facial proportions, but the camera would have to be further away. I mounted the camera just above the monitor for a flattering angle (really beats the look of a laptop webcam pointing upward toward my chin and nose!). To power the camera with AC power, I'm using a "dummy battery." I keep that power supply on a hidden but reachable switch, so I can easily power the camera on/off. To get the camera's video feed into my work PC, I'm using a cheap, generic 1080p USB HDMI capture card. Teams sees the card as a webcam choice. With Team's heavily compressed video, there is no sense in a more capable card. The card doesn't require a separate power supply. It's plug and play, no fuss. This is important since I wouldn't be able to install the official Nikon webcam utility software on my work PC. The mic is a plug-and-play USB-C mic from HyperX called the QuadCast S. It works great and requires no extra equipment. But like I said, it's overkill since Teams has such heavy audio compression. Nobody will ever be able to appreciate the nice microphone until Microsoft steps up their audio quality. It looks cool, nonetheless. At least the Nikon camera video quality is readily apparent. No matter what kind of camera you're using, lighting is always the most important thing. You want a big, "soft" light source in front of or above you -- not a small single point of light. During the daytime, facing my windows serves very well. I also have the lamps at each side, helping a bit. Atop the camera I mounted a cheap ring light, which provides decent light during dark hours or very cloudy days -- most of the time it is not used. Also I should mention, the the two floor lamps have Hue bulbs, so it makes them very convenient to power on and adjust the brightness. Hope that this helps and let me know if you have any other questions!
Yes, they're both from IKEA's "HAVSTA" line. Here are links: www.ikea.com/us/en/p/havsta-tv-unit-with-base-white-10542686/ www.ikea.com/us/en/p/havsta-glass-door-cabinet-with-base-white-clear-glass-s29534672/ If you have an IKEA nearby, check their AS-IS section regularly. You might get lucky and find a deal on these like I did. Also, in place of the short "base frame" for the glass-door cabinet, they sell a tall cabinet that it can sit atop -- worth considering if it would suit your space.
15:38 I have a similar setup but have difficulty figuring out controllers situation. Any ideas how to keep all controllers plugged in + wife approved cords mess. Ngl, finding controllers and plugging in is hindering me to play most of the time, I'd just watch netflix most of the time due to this lol.
Hah well I don't have a great solution yet in my office, but I am thinking of keeping controllers in my glass cabinet with maybe one hooked up at a time. Having them all plugged in at once wouldn't look too good. So I think the better approach is to just keep them all within reach somewhere convenient. In my basement game room video at the 16:38 mark I show the drawers that I keep my wired single-player controllers in. I gently wrap the cords around the controllers (considered bad by some) but with a bit of slack at the fragile part where the cord meets the controller. In the drawers, I use little gray divider trays to keep it tidy (sold at Target in the US). Each controller has a dedicated spot. There's still a bit of room for improvement here, but I find it very convenient. If you can't fit drawers anywhere in your setup, small stackable $2 plastic bins have gotten me by in the past. Or you could make the switch to wireless controllers. There are lots of good wireless adapters and dedicated wireless controllers out there now for retro gamers -- but it's a bit of a rabbit hole to research all of the best options. I mainly play my N64s with a wireless controller. The dongle is ugly and bulky, so my solution there is to plug the dongle into a controller extension cord. I keep it connected at all times, but this lets me hide the dongle out of sight -- might help with wife approval if you go the wireless route 😅.
It's not a VCR; it's a CD player from 1991. Yup, the white TV stand is from IKEA and is the same product line as the gray cabinets ("HAVSTA"). I do have a PC build and it's part of a nicer desk setup in my basement game room. If you get a chance, check out the first room tour video that I uploaded. The other room is way more impressive and essentially complete.
I do not agree with your concept of having the bluray collection separate from where you watch them.... sorry mate but that's a bit nonsensical.... you have to walk to a separate room to pick a movie?!? what!? lol that is just insane. also, your laptop is not ideally placed. its put in a place where the mouse hand would constantly clash with it... That lounge chair you have to play retro games it looks great, but its also not conducive of actually having a good ergonomical experience WHILE using the computer.... It looks like it clashes and compromises the actual WORKING SPACE / AREA on your computer desk... also the plant pot, should be near the back . no wrist rest, side by side monitors so when you sit down you stare at a vertical line, i mean i see so many little compromises and little things that odetract from the actual ergonomical experience of using your desk/workstation that are honestly just terrible decision making, leads me to think that you actually dont REALLY spend a lot of time sitting on a desk using your computer...... Cuz if you had a 8 to 10 hr a day job behind a computer (like myself and many other folks) you'd see A LOT of very basic things VERY differently done (on the ccomputer side) and not just for looks but basic ergonomical NECESSITIES.... Other than that, you have a very beautiful home, its all neat & clean, and your collections are very admirable. I really enjoy watching retro games collection but done tastefully. like you have.
Thanks for watching and for the constructive criticism -- I honestly appreciate it. My office is definitely a work in progress, but I can explain most of my choices so far. Regarding the movie shelf, I'll usually grab three or four of interest and place them downstairs to watch over the week. It sort of feels like a mini rental store experience. It's a big improvement to me over scrolling through an endless list of content or having too much within reach. I carry a couple game carts up to the office too to play. It somewhat keeps me more focused than having access to everything at once. Basically, too much choice within reach can be overwhelming. Sort of like how if you have an emulation device or Everdrive with a complete romset, you might end up playing nothing or jump between too many games to make meaningful progress in any. No, I don't use that lounge chair at all on the office desk setup. If I want comfortable seating while using my PC for media, I have my gaming PC in the basement hooked up to the LG OLED C1 and surround sound setup. The couch down there is a recliner. Also regarding the lounge chair, it is super lightweight and slides out of the way with a light touch. This chair is strictly for the 13" Trinitron. Another possible criticism is that I am currently angling it. Sitting at an angle feels fine, and the left-right balance knob for audio gets it sounding balanced -- but I might change things a bit and sit straight on later. I do have room to push the desk back a bit further toward the windows to free up some floor space. I probably should do this. I just placed my personal laptop there temporarily for the video -- definitely agree that it's a bad spot. I normally use a work-issued laptop which is smaller and placed atop my shelf. I am working on coming up with a nearly hidden tray at the bottom back of the desk to slot my laptops in. Once I have that built, I'll correct the cable management. And I didn't show it, but I have a hidden tray for my USB docking station with most of those cables tidied up. And yes, I agree that the monitor placement isn't perfect. I intend to eventually swap my basement's ultrawide OLED up into this room once I someday upgrade that to whatever the latest future tech is. I've become a big fan of ultrawide monitors since you can truly sit centered to it with no split between two 16:9 or 16:10 monitors. Currently, I sit centered with one of my 16:10 monitors and look over to the other when needed (it's angled, while the main monitor is mostly straight on). The issue with the potted plant on the desk is that I have a speaker at the back of the desk occupying that space. I don't do any work with paper, so I don't need to free up the space at that far corner of the desk. The desk is 6' wide, and I'm not that wide hah. I never really liked wrist wrests much. The keyboard is so extremely low profile that using one would get in the way, and I find that the mouse feels good without one. Anyway, thanks again for your feedback and for the kind words too. I'm working on some aesthetic and a seating change to my basement's retro gaming setup. I got a new recliner and ottoman combo for that CRT setup. I'm curious to hear your thoughts later on once I get a chance to show it! It's a change I made to improve comfort, something I strive for.
Thanks for the upload. Clean office/lounge.
Thanks for sending me the link to your video. Great setup and enjoyed hearing you talk about your records…
12:45 I’m here to also support the horizontal stand. There’s something delightful about how silly it is
22 seconds in and I see a Bad Religion "No Control" CD. You're my favourite channel now. 😁
hahahaha, same!!!!
Yeah I thought that too 😂
That's the best-looking gaming room I've ever seen! Congratulations!!
Love the throwback to older (but still great) tech in music and movies 👍
Both of your setups are dope!!
I love your rooms, they have a lot of character while also staying clean!

I agree with the slip covers. I prefer consistency. The same with video games. I want all or none with the covers.
I try to stay away from most special editions and "collector's editions" for the same reason. It doesn't end up looking good when there are 20 different box sizes and totally inconsistent console branding stacked up.
Love the setups! cheers
very impressive setup in your office as well!
Thanks a lot for watching both, glad you enjoyed them!
That’s the dream office, you have a killer iPod collection I love it!
Never Take Friendship Personal, what a great album. I haven't heard anything by Anberlin since Dark Is the Way, Light Is a Place, but I heard they released a new album earlier this year.
Yeah, they're an awesome band. I heard they got back together with a new lead singer, but I haven't checked out their new stuff yet.
Anberlin let’s goooooo

Killer room! Can I move in haha
Love it!
I haven't clicked this fast on a video in a while

Yes, they're both from IKEA's "HAVSTA" line. Here are links:

Awesome to hear, I appreciate that! 😀
How old is that Sony VCR? And that white TV stand cabinet is also from IKEA. And you haven’t built a PC yet.

What job do you do?
I'm an accountant.
What dimensions of your room? Height x width x lenght?
It is roughly 20 ft x 19 ft x 7 ft. I narrowly had enough room to put the marquee on my StepManiaX cab due to the ceiling height but lucked out.
