Rest in peace Dr Sagan. We have lost one of the greatest minds of all human history.

Sagan 1993: "Congress won't spend 300 billion on a mission to mars, meanwhile 300 billion stolen by rich bankers, they get a slap on the wrist"
Neil deGrasse Tyson 2011: "The bank bail out, that sum of money is greater than the entire 50 year running budget of NASA."
History is repeating itself. This shit makes me so angry!

***** Start this movement and I'll be your first supporter. We're on the cusp of a period in human history the likes of which have absolutely never before been seen, I absolutely cannot abide the thought that my generation may pass by this incredible opportunity to take the second step in mankind's true ascension to greatness in the stars.

This is like the issue the ancient Egyptians had. They technically had all the tools to develop the steam engine, they had a good understanding of metals yet, they never saw the use of such technology. Since this man's time the answer to space exploration was Mars direct but they kept throwing money at the Shuttle and the ISS and yet we don't leave the planet. In the future when we start having interplanetary travel we are gonna go like, damn, why didn't we develop this earlier?

I mean seriously... the potential to transform human society and culture and so on from not only the exploration of space but also the immense, pragmatic prolificity of asteroid & comet mining is mind-boggling.

Every word as pertinent and relevant today as it was 22 years ago.
And so right about Space Station. A colossal waste and drain on NASA's resources with limited reward. Same with the Space Shuttle. Brilliant as always from Sagan.

4:07 "If it comes in under $100 million, and it can be done in 10 or 15 billion years, the benefits become highly cost effective." Yes, that would work out to 1 cent per year. Highly cost effective. You're a genius Carl.

Pathetic really when you think that in 41 years we have only manage to make 1/100th of the distance back into space since the Apollo missions. Dr. Sagan had a lot to be let down about. He mentions a Mars mission in 30-50 years (from the 1993 airing of this program) its been 20 years already.

The Congress should pass a law to define the NASA budget to be at least 3 % of the national budget, for a certain period of time(say 10 years). The current percentage is pathetic(0.39%).
By the way, the Apollo mission years budget were 4-5%.

This is why we need to hand it over to private industry to pay and pave the way! The big mining companies could pay for this easy! And why land on mars anyway, just build a large spaceship and orbit plants, no need to build base just live on board and travel up and down! Its safer!

Carl Sagan knew that the Apollo moon missions were faked in a studio. Here's a link to some of the proof.

Do a UA-cam search on "MarsFaker" to see some good stuff on the Mars missions.
