    I have lived in a big house with pool and garden in the Almeria province, in a small village 40 km from the sea.
    It is cheap and the quality of life is excellent if you appreciate calm and pure air, but we are retired 👨🏻‍🦳👵🏼

    I plan on moving there with my American salary (I have my own business based in the US) which is about $80K a year. My Spanish friends cannot believe it. They needed to see a paystub because almost no one gets paid that kind of salary in Malaga.
    Obviously, $80K for a family of three and 2 dogs isn’t exactly a fortune but I think we will be in pretty good shape once we move to Spain

    Nice analysis!
    That electricity bill it's a bit expensive for a one bedroom apartment. I expend around 35€/month on a 4 bedroom apartment with 4 people. Be sure to adjust the contracted power (KW) to what you really use (it is useful to check electricity delivery company (usually Endesa Distribuidora Eléctrica on Andalucía)), and to contract PVPC rate with a regulated electricity marketer (all share the same rates) such as Energía XXI or Curenergia. Make sure you select time discrimination 2DHA which is cheaper (even more if you voluntarily move some electricity consumption to nights and mornings).
    Also, mortgages now are cheaper than ever and you can change banks easily, please check it out!

    • @FriiInfo
      @FriiInfo  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the tip regarding electricity! About the mortgage: I got a deal through my Danish bank (I am originally from Denmark), 1% interest and I don't expect any Spanish banks to be able to beat that at the moment. At least when I was asking around for a mortgage back when I bought the apartment, all the offers were crazy expensive and required all sorts of insurance deals on top...

    • @coperm
      @coperm 3 роки тому

      @@FriiInfo Oh nice about the mortgage! I have just changed to that interest rate, but some insurance is required, not a crazy amount but not ideal (none :p).

    Probably you could save some money if you moved to another place: a less touristy place or city, around Sevilla or deeper into Andalusia, nearby Cordoba. Also Almeria is so much cheaper and has good connection flights with Northern Europe

    • @FriiInfo
      @FriiInfo  3 роки тому +2

      @@FriiInfo how about Portugal? I read somewhere it has indeed lower taxes than Spain. I was in Lisboa and Oporto, both great cities for nomads to live in but never tried to live longer than 3 months. I live in the Netherlands, taxes are here very high but if your income is low you get a lot, a lot of benefits. And if you're a freelancer too, I noticed since I'm a freelancer how low the taxes are here for us. The bad thing here is the weather, like in the UK. And the tasteless food too.

      Great question! And yes, it is probably a good idea to come down and have a look for yourself.
      Personally I'd prefer Nerja. But there are some nice areas near Fuengirola that are nice too.
      I'd say that Nerja has a more authentic vibe and it's just "cuter". On the other hand it is not very well connected transport wise, but if you have a car it is not a problem.
      I hope that helps! :)

It is worth noting that when you are two people living together you will naturally save money on rent, utilities and food and potentially other areas as well. I am self-employed and there are some business related expenses that I also include in the budget. In addition, over the past year I have renovated my apartment and thus decorating it is also included 😊 I also fly frequently to Denmark to visit friends and family - that adds up☺ if I take the business related expenses out, it is around 1050€ per month that I spend. And 500-550 of that goes to housing - something I cannot change 😊
