White men can't jump may be the best Basketball film of all time? This video explores my love of the sport and how this film has been a special part of my life.

Good to see videos from you again, glad you're able to produce more of them. Good video about movie, now I'm looking forward to rewatch it, so many nice characters and energy.
Thanks Toni, yeah the film has and awesome energy, I'm happy iv been managing to produce more frequent videos too!
Great vid man! It’s been years since I’ve watched this, so thank you for the inspiration for me to pop this one in my dvd tray again! Also, you can jump a lot higher than I can…. 😂😂😂
Thanks man, yeah its a classic, I'm sure you'll enjoy a rewatch. The dunks at the start were easy cause I was young, the one at the end was hard cause I'm not as springy as I used to be, but nit bad! Thanks.
Great review - This movie and Major League are two world class sports comedies!
Love major League! so awesome!
Wow! Was not expecting another film from you! It's so good to have you back and I'm so glad I've been subscribed for so long. Curious to see if this is a one-off or if you have more in the works, but regardless I'm thankful for the content :D
Thanks man, happy to be appreciated for the more regular posting, I'm on a 2 week schedule at the moment, seems to be the quickest I can turn around a video and still juggle family, life and another full time job. I do indeed have another one lined up and I'm super excited about this one!!
"You don't hear Jimmy"😂
lol.
This video is very well made. Well done
Thanks Nani!
Pretty great top 3 basketball movies right there. Glad to see I’m not one of the only huge basketball and film fanatics out there
Glad to hear theres more of use out there! Baseball movies are always very cinematic too but since I played basketball as a kid, I probably watched more of those!
This is such a classic movie. The 90s truly was a golden era for clashes of colorful personalities
Yeah its such a classic really, when you watch it again, it feels so fresh and full of energy. Mostly the fashion that keep it in that time period.
_"Basketball... was also where I found a lot of myself. And as a shy kid, who loved to get lost in movies, I used to devour every basketball movie I could find... none evoke the feelings and memories of my childhood like "White Men Can't Jump"._ Oh, man, you triggered me (in a really great way!) with that statement, and your video - especially cause my grandparents' house in the '80s/'90s was just a few blocks from the Venice Beach boardwalk, where the movie opens, and that basketball court they're playing on at the beginning. I was really young and the older guys would usually let me ball with them. Born in '82, and in love with basketball and HipHop by '89, it was the greatest place to grow up... I saw the Rasta skating with his acoustic guitar all the time 😁
I think it's one of the top 3 basketball movies, along with _He Got Game_ & _Hoop Dreams._
I also love that you explored why Stanley Kubrick would really dig the film! I'd heard the same thing many times (Kubrick is my favorite artist). I always figured it was the dialogue, the editing/camera work and the energy of '90s LA that Shelton was able to capture, that SK so enjoyed. It might have reminded him of the energy of the Bronx in the '40s and '50s, that he came out of.
Shelton is great btw. Both _Bull Durham_ & _Tin Cup_ are both so good... but this is the best.
_"How can you not be romantic about basketball?!?"_ 😉
PS. You had some hops, bruh!
I miss that time, and the places in the film, so much. Venice in the '90s was... 🥰🥰🥰
@@Jimmy1982Playlists I can tell just from reading this that you had the same kind of childhood as me, to have that kind of nostalgia and love for something like basketball. Im very happy that this video reached someone else who understood it. I can't even imagine what it would have been like to grow up in that area, must have been awesome!
Above the rim is another good one
Above the rim!!!!!! So awesome! I used to have that on VHS, probably haven't thought of that film in 20 years! Thanks
@@_MUSTSEEFILMS_ damn I use to have that movie on DVD like 10 or more years ago
Kubrick probably loved this movie in the same way Terrence Malick loves Zoolander.
Albeit, a documentary, what about Hoop Dreams!
Hoops Dreams is the best!! I should have mentioned that somewhere maybe, in terms of films its probably top 1 or 2 bball films, but exploring White men can't jump was kind of an excuse to go into my childhood as a topic.
@@_MUSTSEEFILMS_ Well, I'm glad you did. It took me back! Watched _WMCJ_ again several times last year when it was on TV repeatedly... holds up, as good as ever.
I put this on watch later list day it dropped just watched it now, worth the wait 🙌💯
Thanks man, nice to here you bookmarked it and made it back. Yeah ti was a fun video to make, since it was about the film but also kind of personal.
I’ve not seen this film in years, but it’s an excellent film. To me, Hoosiers is the basketball film I’d rank at number 1, though White Men Can’t Jump would likely be somewhere in the top 3 or 5, not sure where at the moment. Also Hoosiers is my favorite sport film, which is why I’d rank it as my favorite Basketball film. I’ve played various sports in my life, including Baseball and Football (American football, since I’m American lol), but Basketball is the one I really enjoyed playing the most. You get a great exercise out of it and it’s just fun. Thanks for the video Darren, keep up the great work!
Thanks Jared, Hoosiers is amazing, I definitely wanted to put a little clip from that in the start to tip my hat at it. There are so many, sometimes I really like He got game, Denzel is so incredible in everything and Spike Lee really goes to town with the style.
@@_MUSTSEEFILMS_ Ya, to me it's definitely He Got Game, White Men Can't Jump and Hoop Dreams, no doubt, with an honorable mention for Hoosiers.
PS So glad you added a shot or two from the Don Cheadle HBO film, where he plays the streetball legend. I forgot the name...
@@Jimmy1982Playlists Yeah, Done Cheadle in I think its 'The Goat' I always liked him in that film cause he was the small guy that could jump and I was always small so I wanted to be like him.
White man can't jump is very best movie of all time absolutely
Hard to argue with that! So awesome!
@@_MUSTSEEFILMS_ I see this movie over 100 time's
