Was Vlogmas worth it? (and what's next for this channel)

- Taking part in Vlogmas last month was a real challenge, but I learned a tonne from it. In this video I'm sharing what I learned, whether I'd do it again and what the future of this channel is going into 2025.

For my final December of making videos, I had a daily video showing a sticker advent calendar then using some of that day’s stickers to decorate a tumbler, which I finished and gave away at Christmas. Sooooo many people did not watch, I would have made more $ if I’d done just one “regular” tumbler video each week as normal. But I had fun so I did it anyway 😊
Making videos is hard and takes a lot of time. To get flak and nasty comments about it, especially from people who don’t actually know from experience what it’s like, is one of the myriad reasons I finally decided to stop making videos 6 months later. If you like a channel, the creator, and the content, be nice and supportive. If you don’t like something, then don’t watch; move on to something else.

Exactly! Most of the people saying things it's just for the money have no idea what they are actually talking about. They heard someone else say it or it's a concept they created in their mind whole having zero factual information to base that opinion on.
I don't watch a whole lot of channels, but the ones I do, I watch because they come across as honest and true. The ones I feel are just putting on a show or giving out erroneous information for profit, I just don't watch.
I no longer have space in my life for a handmade business , but I still love hearing about yours. I’m so glad the holidays offered you so much encouragement!

I am very, very, very sure I could not do a video every day in December, far too much work, so well done! What I did do was commit to posting on Instagram and Facebook every day and called it my glass advent calendar. I posted photos of current and old pieces and that was enough effort for me! It was worthwhile to me because it helped me fill my pages which I neglect all year when I'm busy.
I think that's the route I might go down next time too. A full length video is too much, but a daily post somewhere feels a lot more doable.

You offer something that not a lot do: authenticity! I am very glad I found your channel. I would never have got myself moving if it wasn't for you.

I stopped making videos years ago. I also was never monetized and only had about 900 followers. That is 899more than I expected. But it was not worth my time and energy. I had products to make! Lol Kudos to anyone who is able to juggle it all! I was able to focus on marketing and packaging rather than constantly be working on videos. ♡
It definitely does take up a lot of time, you're absolutely right.

@KimBliss I enjoyed doing it, but just like you, I had to choose to drop something. My videos didn't pay at all and people were sort of mean. I learned my skin wasn't thick enough to handle people... lol
I do enjoy watching people, or mostly listening, to people talk while creating. ♡

I love your content. Ive been subscribed for about a year 😮 no can’t be that long but more than 6 months at least. Really appreciate the work you put into the channel. I loved vlogmas, and I watched every video you made. I enjoyed your videos before but I felt like we got to know you a bit more, and I really enjoyed it. You have inspired me to start my own channel and I appreciate all of your time and effort. It's also nice to see another busy mom striving to do this. Sometimes I wonder what I'm doing because I have 3 little ones, but I really want to do UA-cam. I'm hoping it will be worth it, and you make me feel like it will be!

So excited for you and this shift in approach, Kim! I loved your vlogmas vids - followed the sock saga to the end :) One of the things that was so clear, despite how crazy busy it was for you to do, was how much fun you seemed to be having with the content itself. I def said out loud a few times (to no one but the walls) that I hoped you would consider absorbing some of your vlog style into these YT vids where you felt able to bc you’re really good at it! To let go of what you had created in the form of Patreon and your other channel must feel very hard right now for sure … but you can do all that here if you want to, just in different ways. And consolidation can make room for new and exciting things :) I’d hazard a guess most of us are here because of you first and foremost, and the way you share your unique perspectives and experiences- whether it’s biz- or sock-related 😂. “Content” is the what… You are the “who” … and it’s the “who” who matters most in my book - the who is the reason people stick around in the end. I love all of this! I was already a subscriber, but vlogmas "sealed the deal" of me knowing, "oh this is my kind of people!!" and I became a member. So I'm here for all of it! Have you used the new D&D dice yet??
p.s. you also inspired me to get back into D&D (since... the 80s when I was a teenager!!!). So that is a goal for me in 2025... to relearn D&D and build a character and play... meanwhile I've been binging Critical Role and loving it!!!

I’m still sad to hear that you closing down the Pratreon community as I joined wanting to be in a community with other people who get the whole UA-cam world, especially when you are new to starting out because there isn’t much support out there for us handmade businesses and making video content. But hey ho you got to do what feels right for you too and sees that growth 😊xx
I'm so sorry, I'm going to miss it too. I'm not going straight away though, I've still got some thoughts I want to share with everyone before I shut down that community.

Happy New Year Kim! 🎉 I enjoyed your vlogmas. It was like visiting a friend daily. I don’t have a UA-cam channel, so I can only imagine how much work that was for you. I’m glad you got the direction for your business to go in. I’m still praying about that for mine. Trying to work out the details and schedule and what not so it will generate an income. Entrepreneurship is not for the weak! But we can and we will succeed!

I follow another creator who is an illustrator. She did Vlogmas this year. She started filming segments in October so that December was not overwhelming. I really enjoyed your Vlogmas.

Happy new year Kim! Have you thought about doing a video with someone else or others? They might have small handmade business experiences they’d like to share with you and your audience. Not live, prerecorded and then you can edit how you both wish. Guest spots, one a month say. Just a thought. ❤
I've only ever done one a few years ago with someone else, but since then I made the decision not to do collaborations etc. It's a lot of fun, but also a lot of extra work.

It blows my mind that anyone would think flog-mas reap a huge amount of money for artists and creatives.
This is why I think the people who make these comments have never actually tried it themselves.
“They’re just doing it for the money” comments are definitely from people who have never made a single video for youtube from scratch. It is a lot of work. All of it. Of course people hope to get something from doing literally 25x (or less, depends how many videos you do) MORE work (while also connecting with people of course) but it rarely translates to 25x more earnings and it is usually just a labour of love in the end. Those who leave comments like this would for sure not work for free as many on youtube do. 🤣 If you like the video, great, engage, like and all that stuff but why bother writing negative comments or disliking a video. What does that bring to their petty little lives? (Sorry, you can probably tell I got fired up lol)
That aside, I enjoyed watching your vlogmas and your chats and feeling desperation about your Christmas socks being constantly frogged lol and will definitely stay as a subscriber. That said I've just realized I've never subscribed. Uh oh.

I haven't missed a YT video that's not on the membership for a year+. You always make me smile and be realistic about my business. I couldn't afford your patreon, but I'm thinking about your membership. Have you considered adding the videos you made for patreon to your membership? I would be interested in seeing your input on YT content creation.

Aw thank you! And yes!! I got them finished on Xmas day with hours to spare. There's a picture over on the community tab of me wearing them as proof of completion. I can't lie though, I was quite relieved to pack them away with the rest of the Xmas stuff. 😂
