Very well done sir, i like the lateral slit you did instead of what we used to make a longitudinal slit, i will start to make this kind of slit for my patients
Thank you, can you tell us where was the ilioinguinal nerve?did you put it under the mesh or retract it and take it back to place after fixing the mesh?
In most open inguinal hernia repairs the nerve is moved out of the inguinal canal and preserved, then replaced under the mesh at the completion of the repair. We don't specifically recall what was done during this particular surgery, but in general the nerve is preserved. Best, CAHS
I just had my first one three days ago, did the open method... I get my second one this coming Wednesday... I had a bilateral inguinal hernia.... Pain's not really that bad just kind of a burning sensation when I stand up...
Patients who have a recurrence after a laparoscopic surgery almost always will do better with an open approach on their surgery, and vice-versa. Good luck if you have surgery, CAHS
just had bilateral inguinal hernia 4 weeks ago. Was going to be keyhole, but ended up being opened up on both sides, 10-15cm wounds on both sides. Still in pain.
Hello doc, is it normal to have like a firm ridge like lump under the incisions? I had a bilateral inguinal hernia repair last week and a week after i feel a firm lump under the incision on the left and a firmness on the right incision. Weird
Mels, What you are describing is 100% normal and is just normal healing and scar tissue under the skin. Over the course of weeks/months, that will soften and you'll be left with just normal feeling tissues. Best, CAHS
Mark, Most hernias form without any specific cause from the patient. However, minimizing obesity and other risk factors like smoking and diabetes can help. Best, CAHS
I had an open inguinal hernia repair 2 years ago but the lump on the incision site still reveals itself every time I apply pressure like lifting something and it goes away when I lay down but the lump is not painful is it normal?
There are some patients who have residual fatty tissue in and around where the hernia was located. This 'cord lipoma' can be felt but usually doesn't cause ongoing issues.
sir i had my bilateral Inguinal hernia surgery 12 days before , i feel some pain everyday in evening at the groin area , especially left side. Is it normal healing process? Please reply sir
Having groin pains 12 days after a hernia repair is 100% normal and expected. These pains usually resolve over the course of weeks and sometimes months.
Its marked 55days of my surgery bt i am feeling different not normal. I feel pain in groin area its swelling and when i start movement with hand placed in groin area, i feel like stomach is moving to groin area and comming back? My legs also feel weak after i wakeup and i feel some rhydmatic type of thing in my abdomen like something going down. Why is this happening? I am tensed now cant walk properly.
Bishal, It would be difficult to speculate on what is causing your concerns. Hopefully you surgeon or doctors office will be able to help guide you. We hope you get back to normal soon, CAHS
Very precious.. Some great musculoskeletal coordination you got Dr.. 😅👌👌
Thank you for your comments!

Had a laporoscopic inguinal repair march2020, now I re-ruptured it again. Should I do open surgery next to repair that?

What kind of anaesthesia was used here? Spinal anaesthesia or only local infiltration?
Local with an LMA.

@@CaliforniaHerniaSpecialists thank you so much for replying. Appreciate it 🙏
This has always been my nightmare 😫
Is there a way to prevent this from happening in the first place?

I have a inguinal hernia left and nextweek will be my operation. Im kinda nervous bcoz it is a open bilateral operation as per my doctor. 😔😟
Alvin, Please keep us posted on your progress, CAHS
Ok since the stitches go away what happens to mesh?
Eliseo, By the time the sutures/stitches absorb, the mesh has healed into the muscle and is fixed in place. Best, CAHS

@@CaliforniaHerniaSpecialists i dont know, each time i go to him he says its normal bt i am not seeing this as a normal process.
Could be the mesh is placed too tight or the mesh compressing a nerve
around 8 weeks mark? really?
what about sexual relationship after open surgery and stitches removed ?
We advise patients can return to sexual activities when if feels comfortable to do so. Best, CAHS
@@CaliforniaHerniaSpecialists thanx
open... bilateral??? ouchh
Agree. Some patients with bilateral hernias benefit from laparoscopic repair when possible.
I’ve passed for this surgery the last weekend, Im in getting recovered, but i didn’t know how the surgery looks, now I’m traumatized 🫡
