These top 10 have great predecessors - Trusheva, Latynina, and so on! Great tribute to the unique historical phenomena - Soviet sporting dominance and achievements!
So many great Soviet gymnasts. It's nearly impossible to pick just 10 since many were overshadowed by their more famous teammates. I'm so glad you included Baraksanova as she was one of them who got pushed out of the way, and it was a crying shame since she was gorgeous to watch. My favorite will always be Olga Korbut since she's the reason I fell in love with gymnastics to begin with ❤❤❤❤❤
Great compilation! It's so difficult to pick up just 10 great Soviets... so many names come to mind: Mukhina, Shaposhnikova, Filatova, Shushunova, Strazheva, the Frolovas, not to mention those from the 60s and early 70s 🌟🍁
Thank you so much! I had a lot of fun! The music I picked was different in that the crescendo really comes about halfway in compared to last year, so that was challenging to work around. But I think I pulled it off.
I came as soon as I saw. The ending frame of illienko... stunninggggg. Also I've blocked you and am never speaking to you again after this because of the lack of Shushunova/Laschyonova/Polevaya/Strazheva (insert all my other faves here) 😙 *Glances back at list* Well I suppose there are only so many places in a top ten list. Love to see Baitova on the list, often overlooked on lists of Soviet greats, yet so vital to all the teams she made. Her Deltchev + Drop to immediate hip circle is one of my favourite bars combos ever.
Awww, I'm glad you *mostly* approve. I will watch more of Polevaya, as I haven't seen a whole lot. (I remember liking her bars in particular.) Lashchënova has been a lovely second alternate both years 💀 but there's always next year! 💗
ALSO, you are so right about the lack of appreciation for Baitova. I had her at #7 last year and since then I found out about the bars combination you mentioned, the tucked Hindorff she did in early 87 AND discovered the floor routine that they made the confusing mistake of switching for her circus routine. The one from 87 Euros is ASTONISHING in its beauty (which is why I featured it heavily in this compilation). Have you SEEN a more perfect double turn?? P.S. We all know I'm a messy bitch who loves drama and Baitova SERVED with that interview from a few years back. She's earned a spot on the list every year for that alone 💀
@@thesovgc There is no footage anywhere of Polevaya doing anything other than bars that I have seen anyway, but her routine from 81 worlds was the best soviet routine there (yes even better than davydova I'm sorry to tell you) She did a Markelov from a stomach flip, shaposhnikova, and a dismount that looked like a long jump. If she wasn't reduced to table-setter status alongside Filatova she would have made the bars final.
She would have made floor finals if not for per country limits 😔. I would have to search for the Baitova interview, but I will link it to you if I have time and can find it 💗
💗💗 I literally switched first and second place right when I started and watched Ilienko's floor from the 1980 Coca Cola International. I was gobsmacked!! 🙌🙏😍
I thought FOR SURE Gutsu would be #1. Plot twist! Another great video. I love that you put some less mainstream favorites. Be well, Wally! Thank you for all you do, and have an AMAZING New Year!
Beautiful gymnasts beautiful song (I bet you took your time to choose it) beautiful video (as well as the 2021 one that I have just seen), very pleasant viewing A good glimpse o what artistic gymnastics once was… Nice to see Baitova and Baraksanova PD:love the detail of showing the name in russian too , the editing in general is very elegant to me

@@darkhawkx8 do you really think that? 🤔 I feel the sport has been on a steady downward trajectory since the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Their lack of dominance has definitely been a major factor; I just don't see the American correlation. In the early 00s when Romania was still on top, the glory days were already well over. In short order the FIG a) got rid of compulsories and b) implemented open-ended scoring. Those back to back decisions effectively destroyed WAG. Hello! Here is Vitor from Brazil. I once saw a video in which you explained a bit of the old ROV scoring system -- I can't remember which video that was. But I still don't understand it. 😌 I was thinking maybe it means the evaluation was more based on the quality/execution of the routines rather than the points of the skills. But the COP already existed, and there were routines that weren't worth a 10, meaning there was an objective/mathematical aspect to it. Could you please explain that to me again or, if I'm not asking much, maybe that could be the theme of a video! Love your channel! :)
What kind of list is this? There are so many soviet gymnasts who were much better than these ones. Where are olga Korbut, Nellie Kim, Shoposnicova,Helena Muhkina, Turissheva and so on?
Then guys, what does "what kind of list" mean? Artistic gymnastics is beautiful because it varies, not only in the styles of the gymnasts but also in the tastes of those who enjoy it. Someone may be more struck by one routine than another, or maybe the gymnast herself transmits positive feelings to those who watch. I don't want to moralize but just express my opinion.
Unforgetable women...but algo.Shaposnikova, Zamolochikova,Filatova ,Kochekova,Korbut, tourisheva,Khorkina,Zhakarova,Produnova,Mukhina,Shoshounova, and many many more. Always the most elegants , the Russians.

I know I used Olga for clickbait, but I think she will absolutely make it on the list sooner or later. My appreciation only grows for her in time 😍
Laschenova, Galiyeva, Gutsu, Podkopayeva...
I miss creative routines like these older ones. Everyone does the same skills now. Like how many wolf turns can be done in one competition. 🤣
This is great - I really enjoyed your selection.
Now this is ARTISTIC gymnastics ❤
👏👏👏👏 well done! I love your list even though it's different from mine. I would have had Filatova and Shushanova. But it's an amazing list😍
Exactly the same!

The most unbeatable team in women's gymnastics history 😊.
It’s nice to see Baraksanova get some love. The Soviets did her so dirty in 1985
I've had the script for that video written for months! 😂 (unfortunately, it's a terrible script and needs to be rewritten 💀)
Where shushunova, dudnik, korbut, tourisheva, kochetkova, Nelly kim.
Not on me list. Kochetkova never competed for the Soviet Union as a senior gymnast. (It no longer existed.)
No Ludmilla
