I don't like the whole backrooms lore wiki thing as the whole scary part of the backrooms comes from the unknown. That being said you do need that vibe of slight familiarity which the game he played seemed bad at doing.
Apparently the dev has made a game before that was the exact same game, just in a different "setting". So my guess is, he just wanted to get that backrooms attention.
I just want to know why they build the freaking thing in the first place. Does in intersect with other dimensions that have done the same for a truly infinite infinite infinite and so on or like recreate reality. The "This Hole Was Made For Me" kind of seems to have what inspired the distorted beings that are stretched out or that's what I fell. Hell I'm working on a long story in an adventure world provided by the AI Dungeon Community and things change too. The original "Idea" started out as mere inspiration from a YT video I was watching someone play a Legion playthrough in New Vegas.
@@RottenHeretic I did see some people getting pretty uppity about 1998's concept since it's Spoiler: pretty much an entire retelling of one of, reportedly four child murders in Oakland county(?) Didn't even go to change the name of the monster or anything - since the monster is the dead child. They just straight up used the same name as the actual victim, which sparked a small argument in the video I watched since some found it in poor taste.
I don't think he meant the lore wiki that lists different floors and monsters (like SCP) Though those are mostly just documenting different backrooms creations. It's more that, this game betrays the idea of backrooms. A liminal space that never stops feeling wrong. The 1998 game was more of just another horror game with the backrooms name slapped on it. It's such a proactive horror game that's so in your face that it doesn't give anywhere near the feeling of surviving for days on scraps and being stuck in same looking rooms and spaces for way too long while unknown beings you have to learn the rules to avoid lurk around and watch you.
it's supposed to play on the sort of vibe you get from old photographs of your grandparent's house that you don't recognize; vague nostalgia punctuated by emptiness. It doesn't really work if you aren't a 20-something adult who grew up in suburban America and spent your youth in old malls, 50s style houses, pools, playgrounds, etc. aka if you lived in a central urban area, then you probably don't have the right kind of nostalgia to be played off of.
