She really is! She is also a diamond-dusted daylily-- meaning she has little "sparkles" on her blooms

I wish some hybridizer would concentrate on stronger re-bloomers with the qualities of the Stella D’Oro in all sizes and colors and types. It would seem the traits could be introduced through cross hybridization over multiple crosses and generations as they would be very appealing to the trade I believe.

You're right, hybrids that are great rebloomers would be very appealing. It is kind of surprising that more hybridizers haven't really pursued that trait. I think it may just be a harder trait to hybridize for, in part because it might take more time (several years) to be able to evaluate seedlings for rebloom (as opposed to how pretty the bloom is, which you can tell the first year). Frankly, hybridizing for rebloom is probably not as "sexy" as hybridizing for gorgeous blooms. The only hybridizer we know who has done a lot of work towards rebloomers is Darrel Apps, who hybridized the 'Returns' varieties (Happy Returns, Dynamite Returns, etc).

Thanks for your comprehensive reply. I don’t know what academic research has been done on the daylilly but it seems given it’s commercial success and popularity perhaps the Daylilly Society or similar could fund a PhD Candidate to unlock the genome with the the goal of some sort of genetic editing to strongly express that trait. Maybe even a research grant through the USDA.

It's a beauty! Frankly Scarlet has a 4" bloom and grows on scapes around 24" in our garden. Here's a link to our website with more info on it: oakesdaylilies.com/product/frankly-scarlet/
